There are only two other songs in the current top 40 that have spent more weeks there ('Ordinary' and, just barely, 'Lush Life') and eight others that were released before it ('Beauty And A Beat', 'Babydoll', 'Billie Jean', 'Just The Way You Are', 'Beat It', 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', 'Earrings' and '(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me') so no, it really isn't even by the absolute most charitable definition of 'fresher'.

So it seems - even more of an achievement for RMI then to still be beating all those newer tracks and heading for its 10th week at the top.

Noone's saying that it isn't an achievement or that the song isn't popular. The point people are making is that the song has been hanging around the Top 10 for an age and it's time to move on from it now and give something that's actually fresher it's time in the spotlight. Lol

The whole point of ACR is to clear the songs that have been hanging around for too long. I'd probably argue that songs should only be able to dodge it a set number of times if they're not reaching new peaks, otherwise what exactly is the point in ACR?

I don't even necessarily dislike 'Rein Me In', I just think it's so beige and unremarkable from two artists who are generally solid. I'd probably score it an inoffensive 5/10.

I mean, I totally despised 'Ordinary' but I at least remember how it goes.

Although to not be a negative Nancy, I do quite like the saxophone part towards the end I s'pose.

Thats due to their lack of rules on their main chart, but if the OCC did it, it would clean our chart up a little

You mean ARIA's lesser chart mnipulation compared to OCC lol

Not quiet the same imo, since all of those tracks except Ordinary had legitimate cultural moments allowing them to re-enter the top 40.

That’s different than RMI just narrowly managing to avoid ACR every other week.
