Talking of CBBC, before Verbalicious she was in a very poor BBC comedy which might as well have been for kids, All About Me with Jasper Carrott, Meera Syal and Nina Wadia. The Natalia lore never lets

There was a time I quite liked this but it’s not one I ever consider playing these days. At least she still has Play to come.

Listen to the Bobby Brown original - that one is ace. Britney's voice does not fit to this song at all.

Why would we listen to that ‘’’’’’alleged’’’’’’ abu$er?? 🤪

I adoreeee Britney’s cover (I get that I an a STANNN tho) but it holds nostalgic memories for me of being in school/my final year at school! A special time for myself.

The video is also a masterpiece! I also think it’s aged excellently! A banger!

It's pretty bad, but still nowhere near as bad as her cover of 'I Love Rock & Roll'

That is not just her worst cover but one of her worst songs in my opinion.

15 Ashlee Simpson - Pieces Of Me

avg: 6.92

👑 Pop Royalty: 10 (Viper*, ...ready for it, Doug, Billy.), 9 (Jessie Where, gooddelta, Nina West)

Pop Flop: 1 (Henessy Lake), 3 (Scene)

If like Ashlee, on a Monday you were waiting, then wait no longer as 'Pieces Of Me' is the latest song to drop out - with an average of 6.92.

Simpson originally started out as a backing dancer for older sister Jessica, whose career was thriving. Ashlee then ventured into acting and reality TV, including The Ashlee Simpson Show, which featured an episode that documented the recording of her debut single 'Pieces Of Me'. She would soon make the charts but was also a tabloid fixture, much like her sister.

Ashlee differentiated herself from Jessica with more of a pop-rock sound and darker hair. She wrote 'Pieces Of Me' alongside a team that also included Kara DioGuardi and John Shanks; the latter produced the song. DioGuardi has written on a number of other hits including: Christina's 'Ain't No Other Man', Enrique's 'Escape' and Kylie's 'Spinning Around'. Meanwhile, I know John Shanks best for working on Take That's Beautiful World and The Circus albums. He has been the rhythm guitarist for Bon Jovi since 2024.

'Pieces Of Me' was inspired by Simpson's relationship with musician Ryan Cabrera. Despite the positive lyrics, the two would not end up going the distance. Her future marriage with Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz particularly became catnip for the press. Nowadays she is Diana Ross' daughter-in-law after marrying her son Evan back in 2014.

'Pieces Of Me' reminds me of the SingStar Popworld game and of course her infamous Saturday Night Live performance. Ashlee was unable to complete final rehearsals, due to vocal cord inflammation, so chose to mime instead. Her initial performance of 'Pieces Of Me' went smoothly. However, instead of tackling the planned next song 'Autobiography', the 'Pieces Of Me' vocal track mistakenly started playing again before Ashlee had reached the microphone, which exposed the lip-syncing, all while her band had to improvise. She initially dealt with the issue by performing a jig on stage, then left. This caused a lot of controversy and still feels synonymous with her career to this day.

Ashlee achieved her sole U.K. top 10 hit to date when 'Pieces Of Me' peaked at #4 in 2004. She was the third highest new entry in the top 10 that week, behind Ronan Keating's 'I Hope You Dance' and Deep Dish's 'Flashdance', all kept behind Eric Prydz with 'Call On Me'. 'Pieces Of Me' also charted in the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 but the rest of this era quickly tailed off there.

The likes of Viper*, ...ready for it, Doug and Billy. enjoyed every piece of this and gave Ashlee a strong 10. Meanwhile, Henessy Lake didn't like the way this felt, with a score of just 1.

An absolute SONG Pieces Of Me is!! Imo better than anything Jessica has ever done (Outta My Head too).

Not a bad song and I quite liked Ashlee Simpson back around this time. I prefer Boyfriend and L.O.V.E to this though. La La was also a good single.

Certainly preferred Ashlee’s stuff to her sister’s and “Piece Of Me” is good.

“My Prerogative” was my last very low score so things are looking up.

Ashlee actually had some REALLY good singles.

Pieces of me, Boyfriend, Outta My Head are all certifiable bops! wub

I had forgotten 'Outta My Head' (a bop) was from 2007/2008. It felt like it was a few years earlier than that.

Agreed Ashlee's singles >>> Jessica's

Oh this isn't even a debate, completely correct.

Outta My Head that should have replicated the success that 'Pieces of Me' had.

14 Dannii Minogue vs. Flower Power - You Won't Forget About Me

avg: 6.97

👑 Pop Royalty: 10 (Jessie Where, ElectroBoy, gooddelta, vibe, leww), 9 (AllStarBySmashMouth, Nina West)

Pop Flop: -1 (Henessy Lake), 3 (Julian_)

BuzzJack certainly hasn't forgotten about anything Minogue-adjacent but Dannii's time in this rate is now up, after receiving a 6.97 average.

Dannii found herself in the middle of label troubles after Warner Music Group was looking to downsize their roster. Her next move was to hop over to All Around The World Records who mostly specialised in dance music acts, such as: Cacada, Flip & Fill, N-Trance and Ultrabeat. So it came as no surprise that she continued with a dance-pop sound. 'You Won't Forget About Me' originally existed as an instrumental titled 'Flower Power' which was gaining traction in clubs. Dannii's label then snapped up the rights for this drum and synth-string heavy instrumental and asked her to write some lyrics to be placed over the top of it. She complied along with a team of five others including Hannah Robinson, who also worked on a number of other notable songs, such as well-loved Richard X productions 'Some Girls' by Rachel Stevens and Annie's 'Chewing Gum'. 'You Won't Forget About Me' was included on Dannii's Greatest Hits compilation The Hits & Beyond, then fifth studio album Club Disco later on.

This song has a Sex and the City inspired music video and features British soap actor Benjamin Hart. It was directed by Harvey & Carolyn who were also behind Emma Bunton's 'Maybe' video from the first Pop Princesses rate, amongst others.

'You Won't Forget About Me' became Dannii's ninth and final U.K. top 10 single when it peaked at #7 in 2004. She was the fourth highest debut that week behind Ja Rule, Ashanti and R Kelly's 'Wonderful' at #1, Daniel Bedingfield's 'Nothing Hurts Like Love' at #3 and Jay Sean's 'Stolen' at #4. Unfortunately the public did quickly forget about this song as it was only in the top 40 for three weeks. However, Dannii was just three years away from becoming a judge on the X Factor U.K., so would soon become more of a talking point with the general public again.

The likes of: Jessie Where, ElectroBoy, gooddelta, vibe and leww were living the dream and happy to play this one on and on, as they gave Dannii a score of 10. However, Henessy Lake didn't feel the same, as he presented 'You Won't Forget About Me' with a -1 score.

Ashlee and Danni both really good songs but agree not top 10 worthy

A decent song from Dannii. For some reason I always think this was released before I Begin To Wonder/Put The Needle On It.
