Yeah, not the best for Ari and I think this won't stick anyway. Weird choice for. first single but I wish her the best next.

CRAZYYYY that there were SO many new releases this week and none bar Ariana debuted top 50! It's really sad that newer songs really do struggle unless you're a huge name.

I must admit I thought Ariana would have easily done 650/700k especially after Wicked.

I would say Wicked did more harm than good for her pop career but we'll see how it goes.

If we are being honest as good as Ariana was in Wicked , Cynthia was the real MVP her rendition of Elphaba was what really sold it

I suspect the actual impact for the Killers will probably be minimal unfortunately but let’s see

If it gets reset I fear it’ll never go to ACR ever again and be Top 10 for the next 20 years.

I’d love Ariana to do it but I don’t know if I’m convinced?! Did yes, and? For example do big physical numbers. I actually think the track itself is great and the video dropping midweek might be a good tactic.

Oo yes the video dropping Monday should hopefully give it a nice boost. If the video is good it could also make the song connect more with people.

Which will force OCC to change chart rules.

I’d love to think so but I’m not convinced - there seems to be no noise about older songs clogging up the charts, I though record labels would be up in arms at newer acts missing out due to reactivated hits but it doesn't seem to be the case (at least at the moment).

Surely this will be the thing that causes the OCC to change their chart rules.

Wow much lower than I thought for an artist of Ariana Grandes standing.

Yet it's entirely in line with most of her other comparable lead singles?

But that doesn’t take into account that an artist can grow through their careers given the right release. Maybe this one will increase in daily streams.

She's 13 years into her chart career now though, what growth are you expecting? Quite honestly I think it's remarkable that she's getting similar opening numbers to a lead single from 2018 - how many other artists are capable of that?

Popular or not the amount of exposure Ariana has had from the last 2 years youd expect more curiosity streams than previous eras

I’d say she’s pretty much at her peak popularity in terms of being in the media currently. I thought she would start off with similar numbers to Okivia. I kind of think all new songs are being pulled down in the past 18 months though due to streaming reaching bigger numbers or something like that where we don’t get huge debuts as much as even say 2024.

It’s all quite underwhelming as a chart watcher overall as RMI is dominating by being so consistent for like nearly this whole year and none of the big new artist releases have stuck at all.

May be a very outlandish claim from me but I'm thinking Ariana fatigue may sadly be a thing, she and Cynthia Erivo were absolutely everywhere during the Wicked For Good promotion and I saw nothing but negativity about them... hopefully that's not put people off her music.

Has Wicked actually increased her star power, though? She was already one of the biggest popstars on the planet so I don't see why it would impact on her music career, is there any precedent for this otherwise? Don't recall Harry Styles getting any increased attention on his music because of his acting credits (however well they were received). In fact, I'd argue her strong media presence since the last album could actually be negatively impacting her - we've seen that affect the likes of Ed Sheeran where if you don't give people time to miss you, the interest reduces as people are simply bored of you! (which, conversely, explains yes, and? having a higher debut as Ariana had been away for some time)

I feel like unfair expectations are being set, and this happens every time a big name releases! All we really have to go off is past debuts, that's the only factual barometer we have to compare to. Ultimately, Ariana's debuts are probably more consistent than any other popstar I can think of over the past decade and that's something worth commending.

I hope Ariana does enough to go number 1, even though she hasn’t had a number 1 since 2020

Ha, we made a similar point at the same time! I didn't see negativity towards them but Ariana has been very present in the media for quite some time now, burnout and fatigue is very much a thing in music.
