Friday at 17:504 days By the way... I had a quick look on the BBC page today. I suspect we're about to have a few more episodes skipped over as after the reshowing of 31st March episode on Friday 28th August, it then jumps forward to 28th April:Looking at the list of Top 40 broadcasts on Radio 1 from this year, I suspect this is because S**** M**** was filling in for Mark Goodier on those weeks, and thus doing the top 20 rundown on the episodes from those weeks in between. I dare say they'll probably turn up on YouTube as the other 1999 ones did but something to bear in mind. Edited Friday at 17:514 days by ThePensmith
Friday at 18:594 days Say what you will about Geri’s talent or her music, but it cannot be denied that she really was a massive pop star in her first era! First female to feature on 10 U.K #1 singles, I didn’t actually realise that, plus first to have 3 (4 shortly after) consecutive solo #1s, the album eventually going double platinum. She doesn’t get nearly enough credit for how well she did initially, the media used any opportunity to call her a flop just because she wasn’t seeking 800k a single / over a million an album like spice girls did.

Friday at 20:124 days Author For those wandering why Lulu suddenly got a hit in 2000 it's because the CD single contained "Better Get Ready" which was the theme to "Red Alert With The National Lottery" which Lulu also hosted on a Saturday night plus the below club mix of "Hurt So Bad" which was popular in clubs in late 99/ early 2000. Both of these had flopped on first release but had since had a revival.I think was another stab of "post-Cher" dance overall for 60/70s/80s singers that had worked well for Diana Ross and Tina Turner around this time.
Friday at 20:134 days 'Mama Told Me Not To Come' and 'Bag It Up' are awful :( They just have that 'forced fun' quality to them. Being overplayed on the radio/music channels didn't help. Edited Friday at 20:154 days by TheSnake

I don’t really rate bag it up but when it comes on I find myself singing along at the top of my voice… “JUST A BAD CASE OF OPPOSITE SEX, CAUSE MEN ARE FROM VENUS AND GIRLS ARE FROM MARS!” 😂

Friday at 20:524 days Blink-182 were popular in my school at the time but I didn't like them. But now I do. Edited Friday at 20:544 days by TheSnake

Friday at 22:064 days 'All The Small Things' is a rock tune. Like 'Still D.R.E' as well.'Mama Told Me Not To Come' is... alright but not particularly cared for that. Like the 5ive song and bought Geri's (I know it's naff cheese but 7 year old self didn't care then haha). Actually bought all of Geri's singles from that one up to 'Calling'. Wouldn't say she was my top Spice Girl but that would suggest otherwise lol.
Saturday at 09:554 days Bag It Up was my 8th birthday No.1! Absolute camp cheese! 😁I've always liked blink-182, and still do to this day. I do think "All The Small Things" helped, but around that time my older sister was a mosher so she helped me get into them. Still D.R.E is an absolute behemoth. Even when I was in the middle of nowhere in Thailand with my travel buddies on the back of a large TukTuk the driver had this song blasting out as we were heading to our accommodation. Absolute mega hit.
Saturday at 10:384 days Much as I loathe Geri, I do have some love for 'Bag It Up'. Blink-182 is also a tune!'Don't Give Up' is a classic for me, crazy how that was such a close-run thing at the top that week.I really like ATB's version of 'Killer', although I will admit maybe not entirely necessary.I don't think 'Don't Wanna Let You Go' is that bad! A little bit on the generic side maybe, but so were a lot of boyband hits back then. I didn't really notice it at the time, but that must have seemed like a bit of a surprising flop for all involved.

Saturday at 10:464 days A reminder that there will be no 2000 shows next Friday 21st. There will be one show on Friday 28th at 8.45pm. The provisional schedule for the 4th September has 2 shows from 2000 at 8pm.
Saturday at 11:074 days Can’t they just dub over Scott Mills on the chart rundown? It seems ridiculous to lose this many episodes because of it.
Saturday at 22:023 days I missed that first episode at the time as we were still away in Tenerife and hadn't set a VHS to record, so it was cool to finally see it now. Clearly I had no internet access over there (not unusual in early 2000 but we had it back at home), because I remember checking the charts on my return to the UK a day or two after, and being gobsmacked that Don't Give Up had got to No.1, and that Five ended up at No.9, I had almost expected the reverse to happen. I didn't see Chicane/Bryan coming at all.Don't Wanna Let You Go is definitely not great and felt like a slightly weird March single to me anyway, it had a kind of autumnal Halloween vibe to me for some reason. Either way, their star was at the highest it had been at that point so No.9 made little sense to me at the time, and still doesn't.Not a fan of Bag It Up or Killer (usually love ATB but this was more or less identical to Adamski apart from the added pitch bending sound) but I like All The Small Things and love Still D.R.E. Also nice to see Lene Marlin unexpectedly climb into the top five, and I didn't mind Mama Told Me Not To Come, impressive really that Tom Jones chalked up so many big hits from one album!Annoyed at the missing episodes considering some of the great hits from those weeks.

Forgot I had an account on here so first use in a long time.Scott Millls does the chart rundown for 7/4, 14/4 & 21/4 IIRC. We did get 29/10/99 last time with his voice intact so when the schedules come out today we'll find out.The episode page for 28/4 has been available online for a long time. https://web.archive.org/web/20110324152116/https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00fsv8f Edited 4 hours ago4 hr by TOTP2008
2 hours ago2 hr I kinda hated Bag It Up when it was released, especially after loving Mi Chico Latino and Lift Me Up, but looking back on it now it was so Geri.I loved that she made such a performance every time she was out there - living her best Madonna dream.Talking of Madonna... her version of American Pie was the first song I ever did at Karaoke and the guy asked if I would prefer to do the original. Um... No...
2 hours ago2 hr Shame if some impending episodes are being pulled! I thought I remembered previous Scott chart rundown voiceovers being left in since the scandal broke, so I wonder if it's something more unexpected, like when episodes with the 'Gouryella' video in were skipped over.---Catching up on the August posts in the thread so far. Aw at that William Orbit produced Madge/All Saints top 2 the other week - very fitting. 🕊️❤️My favourite new entry in the top 10 that week was 'Sitting Down Here'. Rinsed by the radio but I've never tired of its charms.I don't think I knew the second Vengaboys album was called the Platinum Album - Platinum Pixie who x'Won't Take It Lying Down' is my favourite Honeyz release! The single edit did a great job of adding some extra oomph to it.'Don't Give Up' was a great #1 Chicane another fantastic ambient electronic producer and I like the cold stylistic choice of Bryan's vocal processing too, against the more hopeful lyrics. Didn't realise it was a chart topper by such a slim margin, phew.'Still D.R.E.' what a classic 😎I'm obsessed with Lulu's Playboy Bunny shirt on the TOTP re-run:On 08/08/2026 at 21:20, gooddelta said:A nice garage song entered lower down too, Colour Girl's Can't Get Used To Losing You.Fell in love with this cover via Julian's 2000s top 40 hits thread and then it soon got removed from streaming!
