June 25Jun 25 WOW That's my second song contest win on Buzzjack, 52 contests after my first one, and my first anywhere in the BJSC forum! I'd just arrived on holiday when I found which nation I'd been drawn, and I made a lot of this being a tough assignment - I haven't taken part in one of these before so even though I was randomly assigned I thought it might be a hard sell for some to vote for Qatar regardless of the song - but as the options from my search criteria were very limited it didn't take too long to find my entry, although I didn't get to listen to it with my full attention until I'd got home - it wasn't until the listenthrough that I felt happy I'd sent something fairly competitive, but still didn't think it would contend for the win at all!Thank you too all of those who did vote: Frank, Leww, Rich, Nine, Bré, Chez, John and AllStar for the points, Herbs, Wouter, Dandy, Jack and Mattias for double figures, Colm, Pavi, Rollo and Dan for silver medals, and Iz and Addy for golds! ❤️ Commiserations AllStar on losing out by less than your 9 points, and Scene missing out in the final draw, but well done on podium spots - I also voted for 6 of those in 4th-10th so a decent finish. Thanks Dan for hosting and the World Cup theming, this was a lot of fun with a fantastic turnout for a spin-off!
June 25Jun 25 The top two from my vote ended up as the top two overall, just the other way around, so I'm pleased with that result. Congratulations to Jim.Thanks to everyone who voted for Eggstone and thanks to Dan for a great job hosting this spinoff.
June 26Jun 26 Wow - that looks good. I had a very good feeling after the listenthrough that "The First Rebirth" might go Top 10. #4 is fantastic + plus Belgium received the largest number of votes. Thanks a lot to all 23 nations giving points to "The First Rebirth", particularly to @danG and @Dobbo for the 18 points.Excellent presentation of the results @danG - that was a lot of fun. Congratulations to @jimwatts for a well-deserved win (eventhough my 18-pointer were the Netherlands)
June 26Jun 26 @danG I think there’s an error in the spreadsheet. I did not vote for Uruguay. My 13 points went to Uzbekistan instead.18 Ghana15 Qatar13 Uzbekistan12 Netherlands11 Norway10 Jordan09 Japan08 Spain07 Brazil06 Mexico05 Algeria04 Iraq03 Tunisia02 Cape Verde01 Australia
June 26Jun 26 Well that went well... 🤣40th (41st without penalties applied) and a grand total of two songs I gave points to in the Top 10 - my 4 pointer came 3rd, and 11 pointer came 8th.If I'm honest, there were only about 10 songs I would listen to if I heard them outside this contest (and I already knew one of them). I wasn't even a huge fan of my entry, it probably would have got a few votes from me, but I found Haiti difficult to find anything I loved. 🙃Another reflection is that I don't think the big final format really works for me... It feels like there's a lot of songs to navigate (listen to, and rank), of which the chances are more likely than not that at least half aren't gonna be my cup of tea, which can then make it feel like a chore... I know there's a longer voting period because of the volume of songs, but that doesn't help things for me either. I definitely prefer the semi/final format, because it breaks the listening down into chunks, and the shorter voting periods make it feel more urgent/easier to engage with in the immediate future! (Look at earlier BJSC contests for examples of smaller semi/final votes - I would have found something like a 23 song semi and 30 song final [16 songs not qualifying] far more engaging!).That's just my two cents. This doesn't take anything away from the hosting, which was fab btw Dan! Not everyone will have the same point of view as me, and the contest is designed to be fun for everyone (including the goat [they have their own life, so might not have the time to break it down into semis etc], and it's also optional to compete in), so noone has done anything wrong!I just need to think about if I want to enter when it's a OBF contest in the future - it's tricky because I did love a few of these songs, so would probably have missed out on them otherwise!

June 26Jun 26 Thanks to anyone who gave my song votes. Looks like I was unlucky with groups (finishing above 16 songs, none of which were in my group!) Glad to see I voted for the winner :)

It feels like less of a chore so I engage with it better... And that tends to lead to me listening to all of the songs anyway, but in a more comfortable way!If I don't manage to listen to both semis, then when the final comes along, half of them are already ranked, so it again feels less overwhelming psychologically!alot of the songs being very much not to my taste (and sometimes very long, at that, haha), which can make it feel even longerI know the reality is that this is the way I struggled with this, and I very much don't think everyone feels the same! But it's my thoughts and it would be interesting to me if other people feel this way! And if so, how they manage it? (But maybe that's one for another thread 🤣)The format just wasn't for me! Again, nothing wrong with the hosting (so please don't take it that way Dan).I know when I say what I'm thinking it can come across that I hate everything about what I'm talking about, but that's absolutely not the case, I'm only looking through my eyes, sometimes I don't have a clue what I'm thinking, but other times I have lots of suggestions/reflections and they can be very vague or sometimes very specific (I hate my brain lol). I know lots of people have different preferences to me, so there's honestly no shade to anyone having different opinions to me in something that we're all doing for fun!
June 26Jun 26 Congrats Jim for the first BJSC-related victory! *.* I didn't quite contribute to your tally on this occasion, but blame the strong field, as I did enjoy your entry - was 19th for me so not too far off points.Great to see She Past Away achieving another top 10 result after main BJSC! Back to giving FSR Rontvia my 18 after that hot streak last year. Happy that my silver medal from our hosts came close to the top 10 as well. My bronze, courtesy of Deandria, being one measly point away from the top 20 is a bit annoying though Justice for Portugal and Mexico! Next to each other on the scoreboard and also in my votes.I'll take 24th - can't get too greedy as a former 2x Worldvision winner by default This was an arts not the charts moment for anyone else who might appreciate a bit of psychedelia. Thank you to: Cow, Addy, Mattias, Nine, Dandy, Frank, NocheLuna, Julian, Brer, Rollo, uhsting, Lindsey, Chez, lewis and Seven for the points! I was particularly delighted that it appealed enough to Chez and Nine for silver medals ❤️ and 12 points from Julian at first opportunity was also cool to observe.Thank you Dan for the creative hosting! The World Cup spin on Worldvision was a fun, topical twist.
June 26Jun 26 I thought Qatar was one of the weakest songs here oops but many congrats Jim on your first BJSC-affiliated victory!Rest of the top 10 is great though. I'm shocked but elated that the Belgium song translated to a large audience. It screamed borderline DNQ in a regular BJSC to me but glad I was way off on that presumption. My pick for the win was Ecuador so not too crazy a shout in the end.Pretty good result for myself thanks to those who voted and hope a few found a neat discovery there.Big hand to Dan for hosting. The group stage and knock out reveals were brilliant.

June 26Jun 26 So happy for Jim winning his first BJSC related contest, plus on top of everything it was my 18 pointer . Huge congratulations to you! UK did just ok in the end, and as much as I loved my choice, I only realized during listen sesh that it didn’t really fit that well with all the others and genres mixed together!!! Perhaps in regular BJSC would have faired better!!!(Which it also makes me wonder, could that be the reason why they usually don’t click with audiences in Eurovision , because let’s be real MEEK would be a fabulous choice for UK)
June 26Jun 26 Oh and fabulous job @danG for stepping in and doing such a great job <3, as well @nine¾ for providing lovely graphics <3
June 26Jun 26 Thanks Dan for the hosting and the exciting reveal!I really enjoyed this - the fact that the theme guaranteed a variety of world music made it really up my street, and there were loads of great songs here. Although it was a long list of songs I also found the division into groups really helped psychologically.

June 26Jun 26 Congratulations Jim! I did think your entry stood out as the most likely winner, even if I didn’t know who had sent it until just now(!!)It’s a good winner too, I enjoyed it a lot
