Yeah.....this round was not for me. Love Vengaboys and Texas too, usually love Years & Years but think they have much better

My top 3 are all classics. I joined BJSC the year after the M83 song was in but it's my top discovery here, can see how it won. I see the Dead Or Alive song predates their SAW stuff and was their first chart hit at #100! It's not bad, though of all the 80s groups to a deep dive they wouldn't be one of the first names I'd consider.

A fantastic track there from Ultravox - very excited to see what else they bring to this competition. The Vengabus has arrived! Absolute classic. Misty Circles, Oblivion and Take Shelter were all great discoveries too. Also enjoyed Fontaines D.C., Texas and Depeche Mode to a lesser extent. Not fussed on either of the Bananarama and New Order choices there. The bottom two songs just didn't do it for me (sorry!).

have to give it to the wonderful 'play', but very impressed with the Ultravox, Dead Or Alive, Texas and Depeche Mode choices, none of which I was familiar with before. Fontaines DC also decent. 'Oblivion' isn't the best M83 song but it's a long way from their worst too, hope they get a chance to show off some of their best cuts.

1 iamamiwhoami - play: didn’t know this and I love the relentless interplay of the vocal lines

2 Ultravox - Sleepwalk: made my top 40 of 1980

3 Fontaines D.C. - A Lucid Dream: I love the brash, clanging style

4 M83 feat. Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion: quite a euphoric track

5 New Order - Ruined in a Day: not their strongest production but has an introspective beauty

6 Depeche Mode - See You: it’s lovely but their earlier stuff lacks a bit of intensity

7 Vengaboys - We Like to Party! (The Vengabus): this is very well constructed

8 Years & Years - Take Shelter: it’s a good song but the production has that very 2010s hallmark

9 Dead or Alive - Misty Circles: I didn’t love this but I found the wailing intriguing

10 Bananarama - Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye): it’s catchy but there isn’t a whole lot to it

11 Sade - The Sweetest Taboo: this one blends into the background

12 Texas - When We Are Together: apologies as there isn’t a bad track here and this is just the MORest

Think this is the category that is going to require more listen throughs for me

I struggle with the 80’s sound sometimes, especially when the vocals are not the star!
