Babydoll so much closer to Sienna that I'd of thought.

So glad Sienna has managed to increase so she should stay top 3 for a while at least.

Taylor's team doing what I thought they'd do probably only shipping half / third of the CD's sold so she'll block Babydoll next week and probably the week after when they drop the vinyl.

  • But it's not manipulation!!!

  • Unless I am mistaken every single one of Taylor's physical sales was sold within a limited pre-order window before anyone had even heard the song though. I get why the rules are the way they are and

  • 'Rein Me In' cruelly denied a 24th week at #1 on the chart without ACR, to put it further clear of the 20 weeks of 'Last Christmas', by Taylor's CDs.

Oh man! I wish Rubber Soul snagged the top spot, oh well, a runner-up positionnisnt bad for a 50 year old album. What's the total consumption for the album? Anyone knows?

At least it was no. 1 in Scotland and on the Vinyl Albums chart.

Overall sales since 1965 are somewhere between 1.5m and 1.8m. (Actually nearly 61 years old)

I don’t know who’s worse, Taylor or the people lapping up such subpar dross! kink

That’s an impressive sales total of 1,276,962 for Charlemagne especially given it peaked at 98.

Interesting to see Blossoms’ Gary is now 20k total sales ahead of their previous album Ribbon Around the Bomb.

It felt like a bit of a muted release at the time, so I’m glad they’ve been able to pick up the momentum again.

OCC need to do something about this dodgy practice. They should have a firm release date set and then stick to it.

K Pop Demon Hunters equal the record for most weeks at number 1 on the Compilation Chart - 59 weeks matches The Greatest Showman.

I hope they can block Now’s pointless repetitive spin-off on 20th November but saying that, I expect GTA VI to have big first day sales as it’s being released Thursday 19th

I’m not sure what realistically they can do - dates can and do change due to production (not the case here but can easily be cited as a reason - Madonna/Kylie would have entered and peaked at #45 had they not pulled the CDs forward by over a month and snatched them a Top 10).

Also it’s been a thing forever (usually with albums) - artists with months and months of pre-orders altering release dates for the best chance of a #1, Top 5 etc.,

The only possible way around it is to produce mids without sales information to the industry so they can’t react to competition which I can’t see them ever doing.

I think they mean having one single release date when all CDs count for the chart and not having them shipped and counted over multiple weeks....

Again it’s hard to enforce that - CDs can sell across multiple weeks, they can also claim they are being sent out as ready etc., - it feels like it would be difficult to manage especially for something the OCC and record labels seemingly don’t feel is a problem.

It’s seems to be a chart fan/artist stan issue rather than an actual issue for the industry.

Yeah I'm surprised at the low CD sales for Taylor but I hope its not from more calculated chart tactics and they are dragging the sales out. I get it if a vinyl has a later date as it takes longer to distribute or whatever, the occ should just add any further CD sales to the week they were assigned to be released really.

Glad Noah held onto a top 20 spot in the end, I just assumed it would miss given the quick drop great he's got three tracks in the top 30 though. Hopefully Great Divide can get platinum status in the next few months does seem to suit the autumn time of year better.

I get why the rules are the way they are and obviously the OCC is not going to change it, but it just seems blatantly unfair that Taylor's team can basically exploit a loophole and will extra weeks at #1 into existence by strategically staggering shipping dates. (and this is not the same as midweek promotional tactics like price cuts etc. as people have kept trying to draw an equivalence to - those things still require actual new engagement from the fans, this is a case of the label having a known number of sales that they have the unilateral power to just drop into any week(s) they like)

I would perhaps suggest that it'd be fair if the OCC only allowed sales from shipping date changes to count to the earlier week rather than the originally advertised one if that date change is announced at least a week ahead of time, otherwise they count to the date they were meant to count to regardless of if they were physically shipped to the previous week or not. (again, I know this will never actually happen)

This! It is also unfair to fans that their order can be shipped like weeks apart from another fan despite the order taking place on basically same minute. Just shows that a cd is mostly irrelevant as a music consumption medium, it's just a piece of plastic and the only party to benefit is the artist and label.

Thats the same for a lot of formats - they are collectors items for fans.

Cassettes is a great example, I own lots from faves and bundle purchases, they’ve never been opened or played but contributed heavily to chart positions.

I also don’t own a CD, mini disc or record player that can play flexi discs or tiny vinyl - all of which are part of my collection.

I literally have Thats shobiz baby on vinyl but dont have a record player

And every single cd I have purchased this year is still in the cellophane packet
