Wednesday Update Top 40 Only

01 Leona Lewis

02 Dido

I don't believe this - talk about adding insult to injury. :(

Being beaten by an album a year old that's already sold in quantities the Dido herself is used to.

To be honest I never expected Leona to be #1 this week at all, I really thought Dido had it in the bag, with huge sales, but I must admit I got it wrong too. And I'm not bashing either act with my comments, I'm just amazed what the record companies do to line their pockets.
I always hoped Leona would do a Will and take control of her career. She's basically a musical instrument. The management are screwing with the fans but fortunately for them, the fans don't care.

Umm well you did indirectly - you said his sales were poor and didn't increase sufficiently but Leona's did - as the British public are able to discern brilliance from rubbish.

Anyway I'll leave you at the mercy of the Will fans if they get to read this thread!

Glad to see you can calculate 2+2=5.

Anyway, that's not quite what I meant, and I certainly don't think Will's sales are rubbish - if I had I would have said rubbish when I was talking about Will, not poor.

That's enough on the matter.

Why? It would make no sense... She did absolutely no promo for this in the UK, it´s been 4 years since the public doesn´t even see her face, plus her new single had no airplay or whatsoever. It´s ridiculous to compare the hype of Leona "X-Factor" Lewis to Dido.

Why? she had hype surrounding her comeback, many on here were saying it would be the biggest selling album of the year.

Up until the stunning performance of 'run' on the xfactor leona had hardly any hype, she did hardly any promotion for FM, and since has only done one, albiet great performance of 'run'. Both have been out of the spotlight in the UK for a while, dido needed promotion as aprt from her fans people wont even though shes releasing anything since her single didnt do well. Leonas presence has been missing until recently. The difference is leona did some great promotion with a song that suits her auidence, dido didnt.

Seriously this is a complete joke and just proves that we really do need a proper mass market music TV show as the X Factor seems to be the only one and just promotes the same dull and bland stuff every week.

As for the best singer in years.. Amy Winehouse anyone? I don't like Dido either but Leona has had her time at #1 and an artist should be #1 based on their music instead of coming back on a Reality show she came from covering a song by just putting her trademark oversinging over it -_- Oh well The Killers will sort that out next week ^_^

The person who sells the most should be number 1, regardless off the music, thats what the charts are based on sales not artistry. People are loving her version of 'run' only have to look at the 80,000 people who requested after the live lounge performance, and the youtube views it has after a couple of days, and its popularity on irish itunes to see that. So if its popular and people want to buy it, why shoudl it be #1. Since when did the sales based chart change?

I have to laugh at the vocal few on here who are always outraged when leona gets a number 1, as if its less deserved than any other artist because she got her foot in the door by going on the xfactor rather than myspace or youtube.

Gutted for Dido :(

Not a surprise she's aint bothered to promote in the UK, the british public rather buys a deluxe edition of an old album on the back of a X Factor overrated performance than a brand new and exciting album. Meh :(

Just out of interest, did you moan when 'the promise' benefited from being released on the back of an xfactor performance?

Ooh a midweek I like :D

Happy for Beyonce

Happy for Katy Perry (top 5 please)

Happy for it not being TI

Happy for X Factor slipping.

Hoping Killers can climb again - 1 or 2 fine by me.

Would prefer Dido on albums, but happy for Leona.

It's not that dramatic a thing is it? She's one year into her career and is bookending the first highly successful album with a song she loved which had massive popularity when performed live on Radio 1. That's all it is. No great conspiracy. What had Will done after 1 year to take control of his career? The questions and expectations start with the second album, as they did with Will.

Give or take 5 years, & Leona will have her own:

One year after releasing his first album, Will was about to release his second album. Which was more successful than the first. But I suppose times change and no one milked their albums like Leona or Rihanna back then.

You can't compare the two. At least Leona hasn't released all but one of her album tracks as a single. But I'm sure she'd have done really well if she had, however Leona and her management had the good grace not to.
