January 2, 201115 yr I think people trying to say Joe is basically a pushover isnt a valid exuse, no one knows Joe, who is to say he didnt want what he produced? The fact is whatever he was given he wasnt going to do well.

The five-piece girl group sports an accessible, melodic electro-pop sound tailored for pop radio, not to mention eye-catching good looks. In 2008 their debut single, "If This Is Love," hit number eight on the U.K. charts, only to be surpassed by "Up," which made it to number five, and "Issues" which reached number four. Their full-length studio album, CHASING LIGHTS, appeared in late 2008, followed soon after by a cover of the Depeche Mode synth-pop classic, "Just Can't Get Enough." January 2, 201115 yr Author Is the first chart of the year always this random?? Yep - traditionally no new singles releases, but itunes card effect with songs from parties doing quite well.
January 2, 201115 yr Pass Out hasn't left the top 75 since being released. That's rather impressive. Itsa huge hit, great chart run. :o #35 Higher!
January 2, 201115 yr Pass Out hasn't left the top 75 since being released. That's rather impressive. Not exactly, it left the top 75 at one stage: ...47-63-78-75-69-56-36
January 2, 201115 yr Is the first chart of the year always this random?? In a word, yes  Higher
January 2, 201115 yr If Joe McElderry hadn't won X Factor, he'd be in the West End already  MacDonalds have a branch there??
January 2, 201115 yr Not exactly, it left the top 75 at one stage: ...47-63-78-75-69-56-36 Whoops, my mistake. Still, quite an impressive run nonetheless.
January 2, 201115 yr Is the first chart of the year always this random?? Pretty much, hardly any new releases, christmas songs dropping right out so you expect re-entries and climbers
January 2, 201115 yr Yep - traditionally no new singles releases, but itunes card effect with songs from parties doing quite well. Plus the fast decline of the festive songs help older songs to climb back too
January 2, 201115 yr I love 'Pass Out' but i'm baffled at how well it's done. Great song, but imo 'Frisky' and 'Written In The Stars' are much better.
January 2, 201115 yr Maybe I'm a cynic, but perhaps Joe McElderry's media training from Syco taught him to say just that. Saying "Cowell told me to sing these songs, and threatened to beat me with a piano stool if I didn't" doesn't sound as good in an interview. That reminds me of a Leona interview on 4music... She was asked what Simon was like and she said he was great. She was then asked if she could call him and have a chat and she was like "errrr... yeah?!" Never heard a less convincing 'yes' haha.

Saying "Cowell told me to sing these songs, and threatened to beat me with a piano stool if I didn't" doesn't sound as good in an interview. Maybe, but I remember an interview with him about the RATM battle and he said that he liked "chart music" so I don't think it's surprising the direction he went in. Of course, making it all sound as camp as it was might not necessarily have been his idea.
January 2, 201115 yr Yep - traditionally no new singles releases, but itunes card effect with songs from parties doing quite well. It's not just an iTunes thing actually, I remember that since at least the late 90s that the same thing happened. I guess it was Our Price vouchers then
