Posted March 29, 201114 yr There has been plenty of songs to flop but I wanted to know if you think any major flop songs had the potential to be massive hits, even a #1 if given the right promotion. I am talking about songs that fitted in the with the type of songs that were becoming hits at the time but due to lack of airplay became flops? How many examples from 2009 onwards can you think of?
March 29, 201114 yr Current examples at the moment that come to mind are 'Mirrors' and 'Hey (Nah Neh Nah)' which I reckon could have been big hits if they were released when there was/is the most hype. Edited March 29, 201114 yr by Klumzee
March 29, 201114 yr Eva Simons - Silly Boy has to be the ultimate one. I thought it would be a HUGE number 1 hit - but nope, it peaked at a paltry 149  It didn't have terrible airplay tbh, really can't see why it flopped so hard! :(
March 29, 201114 yr I've heard so much about 'Silly Boy' but never bothered to listen to it  I'll give it a listen now. edit: It's alright I suppose  Sounds like something The Saturdays could be singing, which is why everybody on here went mad for it I presume  Definitely not #1 material, but I thought basing it on song quality it could have gone top 30. March 29, 201114 yr Anything by Marina and the Diamonds, especially Oh No! had the potential to be successful! Lack of airplay support! Rain by Mika! Amazing pop song!
March 29, 201114 yr I remember Scouting For Girls "Famous" on the radio ALL THE TIME yet it only peaked around 35-40. There's tons more of these. You can also add "Sweat" by David Guetta to the list soon - that could have been a massive anthem yet only peaked outside the top 10 and is falling already Nero "Me And You" could have been a dubstep top 5 hit with a similar run to KOAM yet it only peaked at 15 Avicii & Sebastian Drums "My Feelings For You" missed out top 40 yet could have been a decent hit with better airplay Edited March 29, 201114 yr by danielGaGa

March 29, 201114 yr Everything Britney has released post-07 has deserved a top 5 placement. Not top 5 is not a flop though, plus this is clearly down to personal taste!
March 29, 201114 yr Imma Be by the Black Eyed Peas. That was the fifth single from a million selling album, though. I'd say Plan B's 'Stay Too Long', a genuine rap/soul/rock anthem yet plummeted out of the charts and the dire (in comparison) 'She Said' sold about 600K. :o
March 29, 201114 yr Hey Nah Nah Nah could've been so much bigger had it had more airplay and support but its not doing greatly atm one that comes to mind is Little Boots- it was basically just being poorly handled, lack of hype and waiting too long which caused the relative flop of New In Town also Wonderman had big potential for top 10 had it been the fourth single off the album rather than Invincible, but by the time it was released, most of the hype was gone and it only reached number 12 :( Edited March 29, 201114 yr by chart wizard
March 29, 201114 yr That was the fifth single from a million selling album, though. Well, it got to #1 in the US. It was the 4th single there though. However, I'm sure on that basis, it could've at least gone top 40. Other songs from million-selling albums have got to #1. I think there's 2 songs from million-selling albums in our current top 10. Also, people mentioning Sweat, I really think we should give it a bit more time. It got into the top 10 on iTunes initially with almost no promo at all. Telephone went to #15 on iTunes initially, only to fall down the chart, and peak llike 4 months later. It's all about promotion. If Sweat gets more proper airplay, I'm sure it can go back top 10. Agree. I mean why call a song flop from the moment that it's still charting and probably airplays are increasing!
March 29, 201114 yr magnetic man feat katy b - perfect stranger! should of been big after the success of magnetic man and katy b's debut singles

I'd say Plan B's 'Stay Too Long', a genuine rap/soul/rock anthem yet plummeted out of the charts and the dire (in comparison) 'She Said' sold about 600K. :o Stay Too Long didn't exactly do that badly. It was in the chart for a long time (23 weeks in the top 100), it just that not many of those weeks were top 40. It probably still has pretty decent sales. The same can be said of End Credits which only spent 5 weeks top 40 but has sold nearly 250k and spent 33 weeks in the top 100.
March 29, 201114 yr Author 'OMG (Oh My Gosh)' by Sabrina Washington really could have been massive if it was sung by someone else. Its just fantastic.
March 29, 201114 yr Everything Britney has released post-07 has deserved a top 5 placement. This.
March 29, 201114 yr Maybe if David Guetta's 'One Love' (featuring Estelle) was released last year or this year, it may chart in the Top 40? I think it was overshadowed. Probably it'll just do the same.
