October 16, 201114 yr I think that it is time that people got used to the idea, that many X Factor Winners are not going to be successful for very long. I see little point in it all anyhow - Cowell & ITV getting loads of cash from Votes, when the Acts who come 2nd or even 3rd often end up with Record Contracts as well. And, when the Winner is unable to sell as well as expected - be it sooner or later - Cowell dumps them. The people who buy into it - Voting etc. - may as well stand over a drain, & drop their cash into it! Those who do buy into it, should be used to it all by now. Hardly any of the Acts last very long. Even Leona Lewis is not as big as she was in 2007 - nowhere near. I think people just need to be more realistic with what they view as a success too. There's no way the level of sales say off the back of the show can be maintained. Longevity is what counts, Better to make 3 or 4 albums that sell 200k each than one that sells a million and then bomb. Also a lot of record labels have artists that sell much less than people Syco have dropped that are still making albums. The idea is to carve yourself a career not sell bucketloads short term and then move on to the next set of "stars".
October 16, 201114 yr Well, every song in this current top 40 will be remembered to varying extents tbh. [/obviousstatementoftheday] you think?i was watching TOTPs 1976 last night and i hadn't heard loads of the songs before!!
October 16, 201114 yr Quick plug now the chart is over, if any chart forum regulars want to enter a game with 20 100x100 images and guess what album covers they are taken from, please see the below link http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=134872 :D
October 16, 201114 yr Recently there's been alot of 'flash-in-the-pan' songs, but also quite alot of songs that are sticking around for a very long time because of it! The chart runs for Moves Like Jagger, Jar Of Hearts and The A Team are incredible! Also well done to Rihanna for getting to #1 two weeks in a row without a video! Is there anyway we can find out what her sales were over the first seven days of it's release to gauge how much it could've sold being released on Sunday?
October 16, 201114 yr I hope she releases the video this week and pips The Wanted to the post by Sunday, so we can have another 3 week #1.
October 16, 201114 yr on the x factor thing i think number 6 is very harsh for matt as he was top two in the votes all the way through the live shows. i personally like the song but i can see why it was quite a weak lead off song. however i do think it is all about the longevity, there are some reality stars who have sustained moderate success and as much as reality tv gives us so many crap artists it also gives the ones who constantly deliver - ie will young
October 16, 201114 yr think riris new video will be out this week(hopefully along with coldplays)so it should mean its sales will continue to be maintained!!
October 16, 201114 yr you think?i was watching TOTPs 1976 last night and i hadn't heard loads of the songs before!! Yeah. Well, I said to varying extents, so that includes some being remembered to very small extents. There's some songs that have gone top 40 this year that I've never even heard before! So I obviously won't "remember" those in the future. But there'll be some people that do remember them.
October 16, 201114 yr Gurl I can SMELL THE AUTISM FROM HERE So you go on and on about how the word 'chav' is apparently really offensive and then you throw THAT out?
October 16, 201114 yr yeah depending on your age i suppoose, but the songs on the old totps you do remember are fondly remembered.its funny when you hear a song on it you've known all your life but didnt realise it was by say for instance hot chocolate, gets you interested in it all over again!!

I find that a lot. Like a song I've known ever since I was a child, and it's by a really famous artist and I never had any idea! Or there's songs I've been listening to since I was really little, so I assume they came out in the 90's, but then I find out they were actually released in 1979 or something random.
October 16, 201114 yr So you go on and on about how the word 'chav' is apparently really offensive and then you throw THAT out? It was a bit UNCALLED FOR Verity.
October 16, 201114 yr It was a bit UNCALLED FOR Verity. I don't get the joke. :( Although if it really is that cruel, then I don't really want it explained to me I guess...
October 16, 201114 yr I didn't utitlise the strong advertising location of the chart thread in my round! :drama: Doubt it'll do much anyway, I don't see any chart loons currently viewing the thread :(
