PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS IN TOP 75: 1

PEAK POSITION SALES: 555,622

A spin off from the BBC2 Show “The Choir: Military Wives” this surprised many people's expectations by becoming the Christmas No 1 2011, a campaign is currently underway to get this to the US No 1 spot as well, we’ll see. Sales of 555k in its debut week were the highest weekly sale of any single since Alexandra Burke in 2008.

Nope all yours Vidcapper- sorry I'm posting so fast I haven't credited you- but I should have at the start!

How are the sales different if it's only been in the chart one week?

This is the first time I'm hearing this Military Wives song in full I think.

Leaked copies but only one week in the top 75 which is what i'm quoting! :D

Ooh, nice. A little relieved they aren't troubling the top 10, but still something nice to listen to, and really good all the success they got.
They must have stopped the sales for this chart x mas day, twitter said this week this song has gone over 600,000
So the #1s that haven't made this top 40 are:

Matt Cardle - When We Collide (sold the bulk of its sales last year though)

Rihanna feat. Drake - What's My Name? (ditto)

Ke$ha - We R Who We R

Jason Derülo - Don't Wanna Go Home (despite 2 weeks at #1!)

JLS feat. Dev - She Makes Me Wanna

Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger

Nero - Promises

Wretch 32 feat. Josh Kumra - Don't Go

Example - Stay Awake

Pixie Lott - All About Tonight

Dappy - No Regrets

Sak Noel - Loca People

The X Factor Finalists 2011 feat. JLS and One Direction - Wishing On A Star

Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight (will probably sell quite significantly in early 2012 though)

Little Mix - Cannonball (may sneak into the OCC's year end top 40 with the one extra week of sales though)

Almost bang on half of them then (15/31).

14/30 if you don't count Matt.

That list is quite astonishing. I remember in 'the olden days' when I used to write down the end-of-year chart and put the chart peak next to the songs. It's not so long ago that almost the entire Top 40 was made up of number ones, with maybe a couple of #2s and very occasionally a number 3. This chart today shows how big sales can be achieved over a longer period of time with downloads, and how reaching #1 doesn't necessarily mean having a hit with longevity.

Ah! I had no idea that happened! :o

Thanks for doing this btw. :)

17- ALOE BLACC- I NEED A DOLLAR (570,000)

PEAK POSITION: 2

WKS IN TOP 75: 27

PEAK POSITION SALES: 54,039

His second album “Good Things” has proved to be his breakthrough, though a sizeable follow up to “I Need A Dollar” has proved elusive for Blacc.

Aloe Blacc sounds like a pretty decent guy. Great song as well, very classic sounding already.

No probs- apols for any mistakes I've made I only said i'd do this and got it agreed by the mods late last night so I haven't had too long to get everything together. Not helped by the speed they were playing tracks earlier!!! :)

I think this must be the closest thing to RnB in the top 40 this year. It's quite good, but I got a bit bored of it in the summer with how overplayed it was on the radio.

They did. This is the top 40 as published in this week's UKChartsPlus.

It charted at #144 the previous week.

He sang songs by Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder while growing up? :o He sounds like me.

16- EXAMPLE- CHANGED THE WAY YOU KISSED ME (574,600)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/60/ChangedtheWayYouKiss_Me.jpg

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS IN TOP 75: 22

PEAK POSITION SALES: 115,047

Returning with a third album “Playing In The Shadows” this year, Example led with this track which became the first of two chart toppers in the year. It became one of eleven songs this year to debut on sales of over 100k.

Dannyboy OUTRAGE at all his airplay work being ruined.

"Changed The Way You Kissed Me" is great, it has a rock vibe to it for some reason that I can't put my finger on. Maybe the drops are a bit heavier and reliant on the bass beat. And its structure works incredibly well.
