Hometown Glory from 19 is probably one of the most sampled songs in the past few years in UK hip hop. EVERYBODY samples it. It's like the British version of E.T.

I bought Mr Saxobeat. :(

Aww. Gutted for you. :( Even hearing it on the radio was the low-light of my summer. :( I'll never listen to it ever again (hopefully).

Adele number 1 album, well I didn't expect that :o

Great to see Mylo Xyloto in the top 5 though, I hope it can eventually pass the million mark, I don't see any reason how it can't

Weird to think that Adele has managed to dominate almost all of 2011 with her music - 'Rolling in the Deep' was a 'big' release in January and was succeeded by the '21' album - which along with 'Someone Like You' has pretty much been at the top of the 'Year End' charts ever since.

Forgot how much 'Mr. Saxobeat' actually sold in the end, although a one-hit wonder she's likely to remain in the UK.

Do you think that is why they came up with the #1 award, to try and get artists to release a full chart week? You have to wonder if Gaga's team thought they could spin the 'Number One on three days sales' PR and it backfired horribly.

Possibly, but I'm not sure I would say it backfired. Number 3 after less than 3 full days sales is pretty impressive, and it had a very good chart run in the end. It's also a song I think that will pop up in the chart again in the future, given the right exposure. Even though it didn't set the UK chart alight exactly, it did amazing things worldwide, so I'm sure she's not too devastated.

20- ONE DIRECTION- WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL (499,100)

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS IN TOP 75: 15

PEAK POSITION SALES: 153,965

The newest boyband on the block effortlessly topped the charts at the first time of asking back in September. It was actually pencilled in for a June release but was pushed back to tie in with an X factor performance to ensure maximum publicity- looks like it worked.

I think it'll only take it a few more weeks, I know sales have crashed but after this week's sales it'll surely be within 100k and it's right at the top of the album chart and should stay there for a few weeks which should still be enough to make up that 100k. I'm hoping for it to sell 1.5m+ but that might be a bit of a longshot (especially as VLVODAAHF hasn't managed that yet in a much higher album sales environment).

They didn't perform this on X Factor though. They performed their 2nd single.

<_<

I'm joking

It was stuck in my head at the time. :( 99p wasted. I'm being wise from now on regarding my purchases. :D

They did perform WMYB on X Factor as well (in a mashup with JLS' She Makes Me Wanna).

That was a thoroughly PATHETIC pronunciation of 'Xyloto' there Tom. Great to see MX making the year end top 5 though :cheer:

It was a "Reggie Yates Tribute Pronunciation"

Was this the episode of the chart show where One Direction had to be wizzed off to a "secret location" because too many girls turned up at the studio? :drama:

It's strange that Glad You Came was almost as big as this, given that it had much less hype obviously.

What Makes You Beautiful is okay. Quite different. Sounds like Grease.

Finally a decent boyband song. Sure, it plays into the teenage girls' hearts but it is still a decent unique (in terms of boyband singles) pop track. The Grease sampling is probably a subliminal message since girls fancied John Travolta in Grease.

Oh you're right, but that was on the final wasn't it? It certainly wasn't the reason the song was pushed back from June, given that they'd had 2 singles and an album out by the time they performed it.

19- SNOOP DOGG VS DAVID GUETTA- SWEAT (554,800)

Originally entitled “Wet” this was produced by the Cataracs and was the lead single from Snoop’s 11th Album “Doggumentary” and was recorded specifically for Prince William’s Bachelor party. Whilst that failed to take off over here much more luck came his way once Guetta worked his magic lifting a sample from Felix’s 1992 top 10 hit “Don’t You Want Me?” to create this smash.

Generally well received as one of the best singles on “Born This Way”, this was the third single to be taken from it and written about her grandfather’s death. Whilst critics are quick to point out the relative failure of the era in relation to “The Fame”, the album should still finish in the top 10 for the year though.

If "by critics" you're referring to music critics, that's not true. The album has got 71/100 on Metacritic which is very good for a global pop superstar. In comparison, The Fame Monster got 77/100.

Worse than that - at least Reggie pronounces the 'X' correctly (he says 'zlow-tow'), Tom said 'ex-ee-loo-too' :manson:

-x-

So glad how well Sweat has done, it's the best thing both artists have ever been involved in IMO (narrowly edging out 'Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)' by David Guetta vs. The Egg)

Urgh, David Guetta and Snoop desecrate Felix's Don't You Want Me but not as bad as Derulio using Show me Love.

I can't believe Sweat was such a big hit. I never really heard it that much on the radio. But I think the Royal Wedding helped with its popularity.

Snoop Dogg is a total legend though. In the game since 1993!! :o

As far as the dance hits of the year, this is one of the best I think. The melody in it is an absolute classic (well, since it was sampled from one ). But I think it would've been better as an instrumental.
