Another week top 40 for SFTTR :D If it weren't for RITD's re-entry to the top 40, SFTTR would have surpassed its top 40 weeks this week :o (Both are on 24).

Amazing success for both of them. SFTTR should be over 500,000 sales next week, if it didnt pass it this week too. STILL no video. :o Must be getting one soon though with it doing SO well in the US!

FINALLY LOVE ON TOP MAKES TOP 20 OFFICIALLY. Next stop top 10 please.

Empire State Of Mind (Part 2), Your Song, You've Got The Love, She's Always A Woman, Let The Sunshine, Sweet Disposition, One Day Like This, Pack Up, Hey Soul Sister, New York, Fireflies were all big hits before the Brits and they weren't dance/electropop. Tons of other hits either. Likewise in the albums chart, we had Plan B dominating in 2010 with a soul album.

Yes, that's true (apart from Fireflies, that was definitely electropop, and famous for its chiptune influences ).

You're right though, that music could do well beforehand.

The One That Got Away....

very fitting title. It's the only release from this era that "got away" from the top ten in the UK and the #1 spot in the US. :(

It's done better than I ever thought it would as a 6th single.

Turning Tables (Live)

'21' is the second album from singer-songwriter Adele, and like her first record, 2008's '19', it is named after the age Adele was when she wrote the album. Most of '21' was produced by Rick Rubin, who has worked with some of the biggest acts of the last 20 years, and Florence & The Machine producer Paul Epworth. Lyrically the album reflects Adele's increased maturity since '19', although it explores many of the same themes.

Grenade

Bruno Mars has already taken the UK by storm since releasing his debut single in September - he has headlined a sold out London show and supported friend and singer Travie McCoy on a string of UK and European dates. As well as this, his debut single 'Just The Way You Are' went straight to Number 1 in the UK charts and has now sold over 600,000 since its release and so far is the second highest selling single of the year – a feat that is hard to come by these days for new artists. All three singles combined, including the No. 1 smash hit 'Nothin on You' with B.o.B and 'Billionaire' with Travie McCoy have not only marked Bruno as a credible and versatile up-and-coming artist but have totalled over 1.3 million sales to date!

Having spent the past few years writing and co-writing songs for the likes of Flo Rida, Travie McCoy, Sugababes, Alexandra Burke and B.o.B, Bruno is now stepping out as an artist in his own right and if the success of Just The Way You Are is anything to go by...this Hawaiian native, now based in L.A, is set to take on the world. - HMV

Coldplay began working on Mylo Xyloto in 2009, while the band was still in the midst of its multi-year tour in support of Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Recording sessions stretched from 2009 to 2011, with Brian Eno collaborating with the band on several songs and R&B singer Rihanna lending her vocals to “Princes of China.” Markus Dravs, Daniel Green, and Rik Simpson all shared production credits, too, resulting in a diverse album inspired by industrial rock and electro-pop. Coldplay began debuting the new tracks as early as May 2011, with “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” kicking off a string of anthemic singles.

Countdown

The world's biggest R&B superstar Beyonce is back with '4', her aptly titled fourth studio album. Speaking about the album, which she refers to as "musical gumbo" owing to its inspiration found in the variety of music genres she loves, Beyoncé reveals: "My fans will be so excited about my new album because I put my heart and soul into creating something that’s personal and honest."

4's collection of ballads, mid- and up-tempos is further enhanced on the deluxe edition by three additional new songs, three remixes, and an exclusive version of the 'Run The World (Girls)' music video. The new songs found exclusively on the deluxe edition are titled 'Lay Up Under Me,' 'Schoolin' Life,' and 'Dance For You.' The remixes, which feature DJ and producer Kaskade and legendary remix producers Redtop and Jochen Simms putting their spin on 'Run The World (Girls),' clock in at over 17 minutes. - HMV

In Case You Didn’t Know is the second album from 2009 X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs. Featuring Brighton rap duo Rizzle Kicks and upbeat numbers “Dance with Me Tonight” and “Just Smile”, Murs’ second offering sees a diverse range of music that engages influences of 50’s rock n’ roll alongside emotive ballads that twist into sing-a-long pop gems.

"Stomp Stomp, I've arrived!" struts the opening lyric of Jessie J's debut single, 'Do It Like A Dude' – a heavy urban-pop tune set to juddering beats and laced with her own brand of ghetto-fabulous, sordid swagger.

The instantaneous skank-inducing debut has already picked up airplay from the likes of Twin B, 1Xtra and Mista Jam, Radio 1, with the white hot remix from man-of-the-moment and good pal Labrinth rocketing Jessie J straight to the top of the HypeMachine chart in under 24 hours - all an impressive 3 months ahead of release.

The 22-year old, Essex-born songwriter has penned tunes for the likes of Alicia Keys, toured with Chris Brown and notably wrote Miley Cyrus's Number One billboard smash 'Party In The USA!' While her multi-octave voice and self-made attitude has earned Jessie J the respect of music's glitterati; from Justin Timberlake commenting 'Who is the best singer? Jessie J!', to Cyndi Lauper pulling her on stage at Shepherds Bush to sing her legendary anthem 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' alongside her.

'Do It Like A Dude' is a ghetto chic, crotch-grabbing, urban-pop diamond amongst the rough which cements Jessie J's debut album firmly in place as one of the most anticipated releases of 2011.- HMV

Nothing's Real But Love

An X Factor finalist with a smoky neo-soul voice, Rebecca Ferguson began working on her major-label debut in early 2011, mere weeks after becoming the show’s 2010 runner-up. Released later that year, the record sketches out a soulful sound similar to Duffy and Corrine Bailey Ray. Ferguson puts her own stamp on the music by co-writing every track, including the lead single “Nothing’s Real But Love.” Most X Factor finalists load their debut albums with cover songs and schmaltzy ballads; Ferguson, an established songwriter as well as a singer, proves there are other avenues worth exploring. - HMV

Beyonce must be so happy today, knowing that Love On Top has just gone top 20 in the UK!!!! :cheer:

I doubt she cares after just giving birth, let's be honest. Does someone like that even take note of any of their chart positions anyway?

I don't get 'Love On Top', it's so unbelievably plain and the video is laughable to say the least. They should've pushed 'Countdown' as that was far better, although 'I Care' is the only song I really like on that album (and probably wouldn't work as a single).

There were SOME before SLY, but there have been a lot more coming a lot more quickly since. Club banger music never overtook the album chart (it's not a genre that sells albums) so that's not relevant to the argument.

'21' back at #1. Legendary.

Love on Top is great - I love the 80s feel and key changes too.
I finally bought 4 physically today, Love On Top still sounds like something from Christina Aguilera's 1999 debut to me, production and melody wise. I know it's supposed to sound retro but that's surely a kinder way to describe 'dated' Still, it's not bad but in my bottom half of the album for sure...
