I don't get what the problem with the concept of non-number one is. It's quite easy to understand and perfectly valid. Songs which have low overall sales, fall quickly down the charts and people don't remember. Songs which in one year when Richard Osman gives the category '2012 number one singles' on Pointless that have incredibly low scores; 'Turn Up The Music', 'Part of Me', 'Twilight'.

Only 'Sorry For Party Rocking', 'Burn It Down' and 'Oh My Goodness' from the entire 25-40 section have fewer than 10 top 40 weeks to their name.

That's just ridiculous.

So all those artists that can't expect to get 2+ months in the top 40 are really going to struggle to get there.

I think on the Radio 1 chart show they should maybe play all the new entries from the top 75, so some of the smaller hits have a chance of getting played.

Climax  This is a song that isn't going to hang around so long that everybody gets sick of it (hopefully).

Can this stop plummeting NOW please. I suppose it's doing fairly well for an artist who's been popular for over a decade but argh :(

Edited by B.r.É

So who's out of the top 40 this week?
Why does Reggie think it's hard to believe Diplo produced Climax? He's a very talented and versatile producer.
A shame 'Climax' really isn't doing so good, it's probably my favourite single from him since 'My Boo'!
I'm really not feeling "Climax", definitely not among my Usher faves.

Exactly! I know its a slightly contradictory term but its silly to say that just because it got to number 1, it was massively successful when thats not always the case. Obviously chart run isn't everything, Dakota re-entering now shows that a slightly bad chart run doesn't necessarily mean no one will remember it

anyways, Greyhound

Though Tennessee's Kings of Leon are a rock band from the south, that doesn't mean they're a Southern Rock band. The Followill brothers Caleb, Jared, and Nathan (along with their cousin Matthew) play a straight-ahead, hard-driving brand of rock & roll that owes more to Crazy Horse and the Rolling Stones than it does to Molly Hatchet. Their debut album, 2003's YOUTH & YOUNG MANHOOD showed them to be an earthier equivalent to garage-rock contemporaries like the White Stripes and the Strokes. - HMV

Lets take ourselves back to the Tom Browne days with that idea, Remember "Solid Gold Sixty" this was from 4 til 6pm, and the Top 20 was 6 til 7pm.

I hope they release a remix of Greyhound or discount it or something so it can go top 10. It's so good.

I really don't get why some people find the term 'non number 1' SO offensive  As you say, it is contradictory but it's a perfect valid term to describe songs such as Part Of Me and Turn Up The Music that, although they did reach #1, plumetted after an initially fantastic start at the top. It's perfectly to call them a 'non number 1' when they're being outlasted and outsold by tracks that only just made the top 10, or didn't even get top 10!
