This 'non-number 1' phrase that everyone keeps using here at the moment is pissing me off a bit, if it was #1 it was #1! Just because its not a million seller and hangs around to the point it irritates the hell out of you doesn't make it any less of a #1.

I see it as a valid phrase for a real flash in the pan number 1 for top 40 weeks but it over used.

This chart really does suggest that there's no new music around. I wish radio stations would make their playlists bigger to allow for more songs to get exposure and therefore chart. Radio 1's is tiny compared to 15 years ago and Heart play about 15 different songs

The radio station I programme for has 70 songs on its new music playlists (A, B, C & Local), so I'd like to think we play a lot of awesome new music.

Elvis Presley's 2005 re-issue of 'Now Or Never' a definite non #1

1-14-27-61

They all were due to very limited stock of about 20,000 CD singles each (pre downloads too). 18/19k was enough for a number 1 then :(

A bit of a non #1 when it was released.

Fantastic to see 'Dakota' back in the Top40

it sold over 40k when it was #1.

Of all the excellent songs on the Stereophonics' discography, and it's the very weak "Dakota" that re-enters? Good grief!

Agree 100% with this!

I do like this song but 'My Kind Of Love' is FAR superior. I hope it is a huge hit for her.

That's the first I've heard of Emeli doing well in the USA...

Edited by B.r.É

Yeah, I wish radio stations would take more of a risk when playlisting songs. A mix of massive and upcoming artists would be nice. Radio 1 do a good job at doing this however Capital only play new songs when they go high in the charts or by "trusted artists". The only thing I like about Heart FM is that they made Jar of Hearts popular in the UK. Apart from that it's a terrible radio station, I avoid listening to it.

Capital is a "hits" station, so I can understand that, but there've been quite a few hits recently that they haven't been playing, which is really pissing me off lately, such as Niggas in Paris, Level Up, Mirror, Bright Lights. I just can't understand it. Those songs are so Capital friendly aswell, and by massive artists. They used to play nearly everything that went top 10, but now they're not. I don't get what's changed behind the scenes or whatever, but it's so annoying.

Capital did playlist We Are Young before it was released though, and they playlisted Somebody That I Used to Know before it got into the top 20 on iTunes, and also that Breathe Carolina song. So they do play some songs from lesser-known artists to be fair.

They need to go back to how they used to be when it was Galaxy and play all the hits, rather than just picking and choosing random ones. And if there's not enough hits to keep their playlists fresh (due to the slowness of the charts now), they should lower their requirements for a "hit" (e.g. songs that go top 20).

They all were due to very limited stock of about 20,000 CD singles each (pre downloads too). 18/19k was enough for a number 1 then :(

And most of them sold out by about 9:30 on the day of release split between genuine fans who queued outside the shops and the b*st*rds out to make a quick buck on ebay.....

I guess as somebody who remembers 12-15 new entries a week being standard and 17-19 happening every so often, a chart with 2 new entries and 4 ancient re-entries still seems strange to me

I stand by my point though, it's a shame that a bigger number of songs aren't given radio exposure and the chance to be hits, not only would the charts speed up a bit but people who don't actively hunt for new music themselves would get to hear more which in turn would probably increase sales a bit and obviously be good for the fortunes and careers of the artists involved.

I do agree with you re the radios though, radios expanding their playlist would certainly help. Although I'd say the likes of Capital are the worst offenders of that, if its not instantly successful, then I don't usually expect to see it on their playlist -_-

I wonder if a full set is now worth anything?

Capital FM are seriously dire.

I was on various road trips with my friends this week and we had Capital on for hours every day. I swear I only ever heard We Found Love, Turn Up The Music, Part Of Me, Give Me Everything, Dynamite, All About Tonight, Just The Way You Are, Lego House, Turn Me On, Sexy and I Know It and Paradise numerous times over the course of a week! :o I was ready for shooting myself.
