This chart really does suggest that there's no new music around. I wish radio stations would make their playlists bigger to allow for more songs to get exposure and therefore chart. Radio 1's is tiny compared to 15 years ago and Heart play about 15 different songs

it tends to go in cycles though doesn't it? there are a few weeks where there are quite a lot of new entries, this is just a particularly quiet week, I guess more and more held back releases could explain it

As much as I love 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' I wish it was 'We Cry' having this resurgence. 'We Cry' is still my favourite Script song, it is just brilliant and never got the success it deserved.

I agree with this, We Cry is very underrated

Does the re-entries, plus Train/Linkin Park's new singles make this one of the most rock-orientated top 40s in a while?
This Stereophonics song is amazing but my fave Stereophonics song of all time is Handbags & Gladrags

A bit of a non #1 when it was released.

Fantastic to see 'Dakota' back in the Top40

?! Hardly. All the Elvis re-issues were non number 1s in early 2005. Did you even follow the charts properly then? This was widely considered a classic at the time, even if it did have just the 2 weeks in the top 10. Non number 1?! pftttt!

I totally agree. Or at least make them newer. Capital has had We Found Love on it's playlist for over 6 months now. It just needs to move on imo.

Heart FM is the worst of all for playing the same songs again and again. I Gotta Feeling was still on its playlist in 2011.

I'm dusting off my copy of Decade In The Sun as I type...
Agree. I loved their first album so, so much and it's all because We Cry got me really into them.

The first album was brilliant. I liked the second album, but it was a little bit duller for me.

No I didn't follow the charts back then. Sorry a bit of brain-fade there

I can see why you may have thought it was a non number 1 from its top 10 chart run, but it was stable after and very well regarded after all the crap number 1s before it in 2005.

Another one from that year is Like Toy Soldiers. It had such a terrible chart run for a #1 (if you look at it from today's standards at least), but it's a classic now.

Yeah, I wish radio stations would take more of a risk when playlisting songs. A mix of massive and upcoming artists would be nice. Radio 1 do a good job at doing this however Capital only play new songs when they go high in the charts or by "trusted artists". The only thing I like about Heart FM is that they made Jar of Hearts popular in the UK. Apart from that it's a terrible radio station, I avoid listening to it.

I'd forgotten that 'Dakota' only spent 2 weeks in the top 10 on release :o :(

Set back a bit again by having to type up their chart run but that's the end of the setbacks now :P

Good to see Olly back up although not sounding as good as usual directly after Dakota. Domino is getting old now.

Twice as long as most Elvis number 1s in 2005

This 'non-number 1' phrase that everyone keeps using here at the moment is pissing me off a bit, if it was #1 it was #1! Just because its not a million seller and hangs around to the point it irritates the hell out of you doesn't make it any less of a #1.

I guess as somebody who remembers 12-15 new entries a week being standard and 17-19 happening every so often, a chart with 2 new entries and 4 ancient re-entries still seems strange to me

I stand by my point though, it's a shame that a bigger number of songs aren't given radio exposure and the chance to be hits, not only would the charts speed up a bit but people who don't actively hunt for new music themselves would get to hear more which in turn would probably increase sales a bit and obviously be good for the fortunes and careers of the artists involved.
