April 5, 201312 yr Are there even more online stores in the UK that ship physical copies of singles & stuff?

April 5, 201312 yr We're officially out of administration and under new ownership. The whole team's working hard behind the scenes to bring you the new and improved hmv. A new website and digital services, a rebooted Pure rewards scheme, and a fresh approach to our stores are all in the works. We've got some truly exciting stuff in store for you but all of this is going to take us a little while to perfect. For now, this site will keep you up to date on what's going on - the latest releases and what's coming up - while we get everything ready to come back with a bit of a bang later in the year. http://hmvlive.elasticbeanstalk.com/ I always found the Pure rewards scheme to be a bit pointless, beyond getting vouchers for HMV Digital. Hardly any of the merchandise was ever worth parting with points for.
April 5, 201312 yr http://hmvlive.elasticbeanstalk.com/ I always found the Pure rewards scheme to be a bit pointless, beyond getting vouchers for HMV Digital. Hardly any of the merchandise was ever worth parting with points for. I always went for the money off vouchers for the main store. So glad it's been saved.
April 5, 201312 yr http://hmvlive.elasticbeanstalk.com/ I always found the Pure rewards scheme to be a bit pointless, beyond getting vouchers for HMV Digital. Hardly any of the merchandise was ever worth parting with points for. I used it for magazine subscriptions, 50,000 points (£500 spent in HMV) for a year's subscription to a magazine from a choice of a pretty great and wide selection always seemed really good to me! Granted there was nothing else there of much interest. But still, I've spent a good couple of hundred in HMV in the last three months so a little sad to miss out on 20,000 points but very pleased to see them out of administration and that all of the Sussex stores have been saved :D
April 5, 201312 yr Such fantastic news, I can continue to spend hours browsing the Ipswich store (/any HMV or Fopp store I happen to pass). :D The thought of HMV being missing from the high street, was dreary to say the least. I hope Hilco do a good job a preventing them from being in the same position a few years down the line!
April 6, 201312 yr Great news! :D Really annoyed at the 'talking head' on the news saying that nobody buys CDs/DVDs anymore , they all download or stream them online. Well then, why is it that over 1.5 million people bought "Skyfall" on DVD in the first week of its release then... HMV will continue to prosper if they concentrate on what they are good at, and not get distracted by selling lots of pointless gadgets and other stuff that other shops do much better. April 6, 201312 yr Yeah, as I said before (though not on here, obv), somebody seems to have forgotten that there's a substantial number of people who buy CDs, records, DVDs, Blu-Rays and similar stuff every week or two, but people aren't going to buy an iPad every week. And people who do want to buy a tablet or a phone aren't going to think of walking into HMV to look for one, are they? Anyway, my local one shut before the administration and is now an H&M, and Watford (technically the next nearest, IIRC) has also been cleared out. But I'm gad to see the Fopp and Gower Street staying, at least for now.
April 6, 201312 yr I was in my local branch yesterday and they were already repalcing the tablets etc. with t-shirts. I said before (possibly in this thread, perhaps elsewhere) that people simply did not think of HMV as a possible place for buying a tablet or similar device so the decision to drop out of that market is probably a good one.
April 6, 201312 yr In my local HMV, the Games section seemed to be a lot more limited than normal. I have a feeling that they are going to concentrate more on CDs and DVDs.
April 7, 201312 yr Seems like a wise move to remove iPads etc from the stores, I'd have to agree that I ONLY go into HMV for CDs or DVDs, they need to concentrate on their main market and making themselves as competitive as possible there! Hilco clearly seem to realise that. :D
April 15, 201312 yr Hilco to cut over 400 HMV jobs Source: MW by Rhian Jones Hilco is to cut more than 400 jobs as part of a series of measures to shave £7.8 million from HMV’s annual payroll, according to reports. A memo to staff is said to detail three roles which will suffer as the retail restructuring group tries to return the High Street retailer to profitability. Security guards are to be removed from all stores except those deemed “high risk” and cashiers will be shed at all stores apart from the 30 with the highest turnover. Supervisors will also be eliminated at some stores. Managers will have to help out on the tills and that the company will increase the proportion of part-time staff to 50% of the total. A consultation period will last until next month. Hilco saved HMV earlier this month in a £50m deal, initially saving 2,643 jobs in the process.
