I always forget how stale the charts were in 2008, literally one song joining the top ten each week if we were lucky. Polluted with crap too towards the top.

as for Five, my favs are Let's Dance, Slam Dunk Da Funk, When The Lights Go Out and Everybody Get Up :D My least favs are probably Got The Feelin' and We Will Rock You.

Noticing that Katy will be getting her fourth #1 exactly 5 years after her first, it's weird how much Katy has progressed as an artist. I bet many wrote her off as a one-hit-wonder when 'I Kissed A Girl' came out. She's become child-friendly since 2010. :lol:

And Pink blatantly had the best song in last year's top 3. That top 2 is pretty terrible.

All Saints were so hit and miss, Never Ever, Pure Shores and Black Coffee were flawless but Bootie Call and Lady Marmalade were complete crap.

 

Bootie Call was also absolute FILTH. Being 9, I didn't 'get' the song at the time. A lot of songs from back then, I completely missed the meaning. Running around the playground shouting lyrics to Mousse T's Horny and Vengaboys' Boom Boom Boom Boom seems pretty wrong to me now :lol:

To anyone genuinely surprised that Iron Maiden got a top 10 hit 10 years ago - they went on to get three further top 5 hits between 2005 and 2007.

 

I miss Iron Maiden's massive fanbase single buys. Their lead singer works as a pilot when he not Maidening, you know.

 

It was quite the week for classic rock this week 10 years ago as The Rolling Stones had a New Entry in the chart at #14 with Sympathy For The Devil. It must of been a re-issue for some reason and The White Stripes were new at #13 with their version of I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself.

I think the Sympathy for the Devil rerelease was to promote a Greatest Hits compilation (40 Licks if I recall correctly). I do miss the time when classic bands could get a song back into the chart merely by pressing it as a single, although downloads kind of killed that off.

It was released on Fatboy Slim's record label, but contrary to belief at the time, it was not a remix. It was heavily played on the radio, and was used in a high-profile advert for Sky Sports, which contributed to its success.

'Sympathy For The Devil' was remixed though. In fact there was a remix by Fatboy Slim, but the lead track was by Pharrell. It was also crap.

Not technically a re-issue though, it had never been a UK single before.
