They led all week but will One Direction be pipped to the top by Eminem Featuring Rihanna?

Also running the above two very close should be Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr Featuring Beardyman

New to the top 40 today should be entries from The Wanted, Tinie Tempah Featuring John Martin, Foxes, Justin Bieber and M.A.D

Yay, Chur and Georgy top 2. :)

And the last top 10 single for Holly Valance... shame, as it was really good!

Eminem/Rihanna and Arcade Fire will easily be number one in their respective charts, although the top end of the singles should still be quite interesting considering how close the sales were.

5 years since 'Another Way to Die' - not as good as 'You Know My Name' or 'Skyfall' which came before and after but it's another great James Bond track for me; receives too much hate as well.

Afternoon! Not happy about the late start for the chart show this week. The BBC wouldn't treat their sports coverage like this!

Anyway Retro favs for me this week:

I thought AWTD is actually loved for being a bit different for a JB theme?

Um, "Die Another Day" was VERY different from most Bond themes and it got slandered by people at the time of its' release.

I find the fact that PAUL POTTS has a Greatest Hits album out and charting absolutely hilarious.

He has 0 top 75 singles.

Hah, though "Nessun Dorma" reached #100 in July 2007 so if you extend the definition of a hit single to a song which has made the Top 100 he has a one greatest hit. (Not justifying the album at all of course, but worth noting).

Frankly I'm surprised it's taken Paul Potts this long to release a greatest hits, very overdue. Hope we get one for Richard & Adam before the end of the year as well.
Um, "Die Another Day" was VERY different from most Bond themes and it got slandered by people at the time of its' release.

That was just because it was Madonna I think.

Anyway, I haven't really noticed that Another Way to Die is hated at all. It didn't sell bucketloads though.

I thought AWTD is actually loved for being a bit different for a JB theme?

Um, "Die Another Day" was VERY different from most Bond themes and it got slandered by people at the time of its' release.

Yeah, I've got the impression that on Buzzjack they aren't well liked (although 'Die Another Day' is quite loved among Madonna fans).

Am I tripping? Doesn't the chart show start at 4pm?

It's on at 17:15 today due to the Teen Awards coverage. It'll probably be just climbers and New Entries played between 40 & 11 with the Top 10 in full after 6pm as usual.

Today's random retro dates back 50 years ago to November 1963

1 (1) Gerry & The Pacemakers - You'll Never Walk Alone

2 (2) Beatles - She Loves You

3 (4) Roy Orbison - Blue Bayou/Mean Woman Blues

4 (8) Searchers - Sugar And Spice

5 (3) Brian Poole & The Tremeloes - Do You Love Me?

6 (11) Ronettes - Be My Baby

7 (9) Chuck Berry - Let It Rock/Memphis

8 (7) Shirley Bassey - I Who Have Nothing

9 (5) Crystals - Then He Kissed Me

10 (6) Trini Lopez - If I Had A Hammer

It's a Merseyside domination with numbers 1, 2 & 4 being Liverpool bands. "You'll Never Walk Alone" was the third of Gerry & The Pacemakers' first three hits all hitting number one, a record not equalled for over 20 years. The song of course has now become a Liverpool FC anthem, and also hit number one for the charity agglomeration "The Crowd" in 1985 to raise money for victims of the Bradford City fire which killed 56 football fans. "She Loves You" hovered around the top 3 for ages (3-1-1-1-1-3-3-3-2-2-3-2-1-1-2-2-2-3) while the Searchers' contribution to the chart was their third hit, all beginnin with the letter "S", and was not one of their best.

Elsewhere, two fantastic examples of the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound". The Ronnettes' "Be My Baby" was ther first UK Hit, and was the first recorded work of Cher, who performed back-up vocals when someone else failed to show at the recording session. The Crystals' effort at Number 9 had been their biggest UK Hit (a number 2) but not perhaps their best known ("Da Doo Ron Ron" probably has that honour.

The other songs in the Top 10 include a double A-side from Roy Orbison. a former number one from Brian Poole (a cover of a US Hit by the Contours) that had to contend with another version by the Dave Clark Five in the charts at the same time, another double A-side, this time by rock'n'roll legend Chuck Berry, one of Shirley Bassey's signature tunes to this day (again a cover of a US Hit, this time by Ben E King although even this was the English version of an original Italian song), and finally yet another cover version, this time by an American artist (Trini Lopez) of a late 40s song co-written by notable songwriter & civil rights activist Pete Seeger. Seeger still occasionally sings in public at the age of 94.

Other Top 40 New Entries from this day in 2003 include:

38. David Sneddon - Baby Get Higher

36. Dave Gahan - Bottle Living

35. Kym Marsh - Sentimental

27. Underworld - Born Slippy Nuxx

26. Mark Owen - Alone Without You

23. UB40 Feat. United Colours Of Sound - Swing Low

19. Wayne Wonder - Bounce Along

11. Angel City Feat. Lara McAllen - Love Me Right

... and on this exact day 22 years ago: 3rd November 1991.

*Bryan Adams was at #4 on his 20th consecutive week in the Top 10 with "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You"

*Vic Reeves and Stourbridge band The Wonder Stuff climbed from 2-1 with "Dizzy", knocking off U2 from the top spot with "The Fly" (which was a limited release and promptly dropped out of the chart just 4 weeks later)

*K-Klass were the highest new entry at #8 with the classic "Rhythm Is A Mystery"

*The Manic Street Preachers got their 2nd T40 entry with "Love's Sweet Exile" at #29 after "Stay Beautiful" was their first ever T40 hit back in August '91.
