This all seems very half arsed. And I don't get why it's being released so soon before Christmas?

Don't get me wrong, anything that hopes to make a load of money for a good cause should be supported, I just think this could have done with more prep time.

I don't tend to watch YouTubers that much anymore but whenever Joe Sugg jokingly sang in his videos he actually had quite a good voice..! I believe Zoe does to, but I agree in that it seems wrong with them being there!
There must be more people than photographed there? Rita Ora was confirmed to have showed up and I though Fuse ODG/Sam smith were supposed to be there too?

Rita Ora was there but had to leave to get to Salford to record The Voice. I assume she had left by the time of the group photo.

This could be rather more Band Aid II rather than Band Aid 20 in terms of decent artists and success?

The line-up this year looks a lot more star-studded than Band Aid 20, they've basically got all of the big UK artists of the last couple of years bar Adele. That said, I don't really have that good an understanding of how 'star-studded' the 2004 line-up would have appeared at the time, it looks like it has a lot more minor stars than BA30 but that might just be because their successes are now in the past and 2014's could look just as bad in 10 years' time.

Ah thanks!

I hope there are a few more people in it even if they don't get solo lines, just to fill out the crowd a bit..

It's not really any different a release strategy to the previous three. The idea of Band Aid II wasn't even confirmed until December 1st and was released 10 days later! Band Aid 20 premiered around exactly the same time as this one as well.

I kinda hope there's more artists than that revealed tonight in the video, but I guess the original didn't have that many either.

I think you're right that their successes have just passed rather than them just being minor stars. Obviously Coldplay and and Robbie Williams are still having success today, but back then artists like Dido, Will Young, Daniel and Natasha Bedingfield, Busted and Sugababes were huge at the time.

All of the people that had their own lines were pretty big at the times (bar Dizzee Rascal who was just breaking through) iirc. Dido was just coming out of 2 ginormous eras, Sugababes were clearly very popular, Busted were huge at the time and that was at the point when Joss Stone was at the height of her relevance too! Definitely was a star studded affair, even if a lot of them aren't quite so successful anymore.

With a lot of the Band Aid 20 line up, I think a lot of them didn't really transform through the 'age of the download' that well, and it just goes to show you that a lot of pop acts don't age that well. That being said they seem to have not gone for as many big pop acts this time, and used more credible artists.

Band Aid 20 definitely came across as incredibly star-studded back in 2004 - most of the inclusions didn't raise eyebrows and by and large they seemed like obvious people to have on it. After 10 years that line-up doesn't seem anywhere near as powerful, but at the time it definitely was.

I'd say the line-up for 2004 had a better variety than who they've got on board for 2014. Even though there's a number of big names involved, somehow it just seems like there's a few artists missing that should be there. The group photo looks rather bleak.

I am still surprised acts like jessie j, take that and little mix arent part of it to be honest

It looks bleak, but I also think Band Aid 20 suffered from having too many artists involved. Too many cooks can spoil the broth. Having less artists means you can maximise their impact. It's why I think God Only Knows really struggled, because you literally had about 30 artists involved, all of whom sung a singular line.

I suppose there is that too, there was a lot on there to the point that some didn't even get a moment to shine. I just feel there could be a happy medium line-up between the number on 2004 and the number on 2014.

We'll have to wait and see if the 2014 version works! 2 and a half hours to go! :D

The artists in Band Aid 20 were huge at the time and mostly had very distinctive voices/styles. I can't say the same for the new line up. But then I'm probably biased because I enjoyed current music back in 2004.

Band Aid 2004 was quite good in terms of star power but the music business was different back then. The mainstream British industry was on the wane, bubblegum pop had just died, they didnt know what to do next. So you have artists that would be on a downward trajectory in their career up front. All the heavy hitters didn't sing, Damon Albarn produced, Thom Yorke and Paul McCartney were on instruments. Some of the faces of Band Aid 20 were the Bedingfields, the Sugababes, Jamelia, Will Young and Busted. Out of them I think only the Sugababes and Will had a hit after BandAid20 and neither were the force they were in music before it. In 2004/2005 record industries really started to push 'legit' acts like Razorlight, Snow Patrol and Keane to push back at the previous 6 years of pop music but it rarely worked and in the end American R&B just dominated and we got rubbish like Crazy Frog and Babycakes getting to number 1!

This was the mid 00s in British pop music, transitional is the nicest way to describe it. (2004 has some great Rock music though, MTV2 Txt, Vids and Rock and Roll after school those were the days!)

2004 was an awesome year for music if you just completely ignore the singles chart.
The X Factor has started, tune in if you want to watch the Band Aid 30 video. ^_^

I thought they were showing Band Aid 30 at 8pm on the dot. All I see is a bunch of people ruining Taylor's Shake It Off?
