December 22, 201312 yr so dull and overplayed now :( (and I don't even listen to radio that often!) will probably climb back in the top 10 next week I agree. Roar was amazing when it came out.
December 22, 201312 yr So did "Roar" climb because of Katy's XF performance (of a completely different song) or is it due to something else? The 12 finalists of the series performed it on the final.
December 22, 201312 yr The group performance of the finalists was 'Roar' - but I doubt that's the main reason for the climb as the group performances have more or less no effect on the chart. Not sure what else could be behind such a big climb though...
December 22, 201312 yr Roar was done as a group performance on The X Factor? I hate that Sail song. It's just noise. I think it may be the new Ho Hey.

The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in 1991 due to drinking problems but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacy on vocals before breaking up in 1996. The band reformed in late 2001, and has been playing regularly ever since, most notably on the US East Coast around St Patrick's Day and across the UK and Ireland every December. The group has yet to record any new music and, according to Spider Stacy on Pogues.com, has no inclination to do so. Their politically tinged music was informed by MacGowan and Stacy's punk backgrounds, yet used traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, cittern, mandolin and accordion. The Pogues were founded in Kings Cross, a district of Central London, in 1982 as Pogue Mahone—pogue mahone being the anglicisation of the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse". - Wikipedia Chart history (Year peak title): The Pogues 1985 72 Pair Of Brown Eyes -1- 1985 51 Sally Maclannane -2- 1985 62 Dirty Old Town -3- 1986 29 Poguetry In Motion -EP- 1986 42 Hunted -OST- 1987 08 The Irish Rover (The Pogues & The Dubliners) -NAS- 1987 02 Fairytale Of New York (The Pogues Feat. December 22, 201312 yr All of The X Factor finalists sung it on The X Factor final. So they did. I forgot about that. It was quite good aswell :)
December 22, 201312 yr Sorry but can someone explain to me what the whole gift cards thing is :D iTunes giftcards are popular presents at Christmas, so there is usually a iTunes spending frenzy the first few days after Christmas, giving quite a few popular songs boosts. :P
December 22, 201312 yr 'Fairytale Of New York' climbing again :cheer: Hope it can somehow stick around in the top 40 for another week like it did last year but I won't hold my breath.
December 22, 201312 yr Fairytale of New York  Absolute classic, so glad it's a million seller now also!
December 22, 201312 yr Another "new" position for "Fairytale of New York" - that's everything from 12-19 inclusive ticked off
December 22, 201312 yr Sorry but can someone explain to me what the whole gift cards thing is :D People using their iTunes vouchers (or whatever) to buy random songs from the past year thus causing them to climb up the chart. The 21st century equivalent of people using album tokens in the last century.
December 22, 201312 yr Were there any examples of them reporting totals without the 'ineligible' weeks, just out of curiosity? Anyway, BPI certifies so I assume they'd consider all the sales, not only the "year-end" OCC's totals. They must have access to the complete database. Besides, the label needs this data as well. Tori Amos's American Doll Posse album the Deluxe version was ineligible to chart, so only the standard version sales counted and charted at #50 in 2007. They gave an updated figure in 2009 on 7k which I'm 100% sure still didn't include the Deluxe sales, as Tori had sold more than that total will every new studio album before and after.
December 22, 201312 yr iTunes giftcards are popular presents at Christmas, so there is usually a iTunes spending frenzy the first few days after Christmas, giving quite a few popular songs boosts. :P Is it only certain songs? Edited December 22, 201312 yr by Benzy
December 22, 201312 yr Fairytale of New York  Absolute classic, so glad it's a million seller now also! Climbing up the ranks too as it adds sales to its total :)
December 22, 201312 yr Just popped in here a bit late this week as I've been doing my own thread elsewhere, and though I'd give it a cheeky plug here... The Not-So-Good, The Bad And The Plain Weird - A History Of Novelty Hits In The Christmas Chart http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...160870&st=0
December 22, 201312 yr Is it only certain songs I think it's usually quite big hits from the year - as last year songs like Gangnam Style, Candy, Wings etc. got significant boosts.
