March 2, 201412 yr This weeks random retro is triggered by the entry of Paloma Faith today. It not only focuses on the week she first debuted in the chart back in 2009, but the following week was a memorable mark in World music. I am only posting the debut chart released by Fearne & Reggie on the 21st June 2009, but what went on to happen the following week, will provide a permanent mark on World Music. This mark would happen on Thursday 25th June, we was switching on our radios wondering why the non stop Michael Jackson songs, this was the day he died. The following Sunday 28th June Scott Mills was presenting, where as a result 6 of his solo tracks re-entered the Top 40 with another 10 in the rest of the Top 75, plus another 4 Jacksons or Jackson 5 entering. March 2, 201412 yr If Pharrell Williams reclaims number 1 today, this will be the first time in over 55 years, that an act has went back up to number 1 twice in a current chart run, even longer for an act that did not have to share number 1, over 60 years.
March 2, 201412 yr This time around 10 years ago was the time I properly got into the charts by watching Top Of The Pops. The Jamelia song is rather underrated.
March 2, 201412 yr I always think it's funny that Kelly Clarkson is considered queen of break-up anthems/I'm stronger without you-type songs, yet got her first (and only) #1 with a song about her life being shit if she was single! Granted, it wasn't exactly a sonic departure from her previous stuff but the title really misrepresents why a lot of people love her. Still a tune though.
