Biography

Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

Top US singles not in the UK Singles Charts

6.Maps-Maroon 5

12.Burning it Down-Jason Aldrean

15.Baliando-Enrquie Iglesais

16.Shower-Becky G

17.Love Runs Out-OneRepublic

I hope Bailando does well in the UK.

So very bored of 'Stay With Me'. Definitely need to check out his new one that is high on iTunes, especially as apparently Dianna Agron is in the video!

Was Money not the first single and Stay with me single 2 and Lay me Down a instant grat?
Was Money not the first single and Stay with me single 2 and Lay me Down a instant grat?

No. He didn't have an instant grat. 'Lay Me Down' was the first single but didn't chart until 'Money On My Mind' came out.

Biography

Lodewijk Fluttert (born 8 October 1991), known by the stage name of Bakermat, is a Dutch musical artist and record producer from the village of Markelo in Overijssel, now based in Utrecht. He is signed to the Soulmax agency. His music is a mix of electronic, house and techno music produced in a minimalist manner and with further jazz and soul influences.

Fluttert started his musical career while studying psychology at Utrecht University and moonlighting as a DJ in his spare time. He released his two EPs in 2012 called Zomer EP and Vandaag EP. The title track from the latter, consisting of an integrated sample of the "I Have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King, Jr., charted as a single in the Netherlands, Belgium and France in late 2012 and spring 2013. In 2014, it was rereleased by Sony becoming a major charting hit particularly in Germany and Austria.

His 'Uitzicht' EP was released in 2013 on Soundplate Records. It has appeared in several iTunes charts including top 50 positions in the overall chart in Belgium and the Netherlands. Other popular tunes include "Black Cat John Brown", "Leven", "Strandfeest" and "Intro". He has also released a number of mixtapes on his soundcloud account. Bakermat confirmed that he will be performing at Tomorrowland 2014. - Wikipedia

15 only? :o

Damn streaming! <_<

I really like 'One Day (Vandaag)' aside from the saxophone-only sections, a trend that I'm not really loving in dance music right now (I'm aware the song is older than the trend etc. but still). Hope it can enter the top 10 next week anyhow.
Looks like Bakermat is another victim of streaming. Hopefully it will climb next week! :)

When will your non-Martin Luther King sampled faves.

ANYWAY, this is actually quite good, I'm glad I'm finally listening to it after it's been advertised to me so much on Spotify as of late.

15 only... should be a top 10 entry, love it. Probably the best sax entry.

Bakermat top 15!

another lovely sax tune, such a shame that R1/Capital haven't supported it, could have gone top 10 otherwise.

Imagine how proud Martin Luther King would have been to know that after his death, somebody would play a clip of him talking over some boring elevator music.
No. He didn't have an instant grat. 'Lay Me Down' was the first single but didn't chart until 'Money On My Mind' came out.

Was wondering thought Lay got to the top 50 due to a mention at the Brits. Funny how Nirvana didn't chart, one of my favs of his now!

Loving this on first listen. Better than "Jubel", but "Changes" is still my favourite of the three. Hoping to see it climb next week then when the streaming can hopefully pick up.

in the realm of sax dance Jubel is pretty much my favourite song of all time, Sonnentanz was one of my favourites of last year, Wicked Wonderland is my favourite song right now, Changes I love too... but I've never been able to get into this :(

This song also samples some speech and has sax, though it's a fairly different sound; I personally like it a lot more:

Bakermat has done brilliantly considering it's had next to zero radio support (outside of capital xtra I guess)
