When did pointing out that the majority of immigrants are willing to work hard to be accepted by a western society (they will never even be fully integrated with) become the same as portraying them as "heroes"?

 

This all sounds very devil's advocate-y to me if I'm honest.

We are NOT full. Refugees come here because they want a better life. They come here because they want to work. Are you seriously suggesting thate people should just stay in the country where they were born, no matter how much their lives are in danger?

 

Yes, of course the US should do more but that isn't an excuse for our government to be so utterly inhumane.

Almost 50% of houses sold in Wales last year were sold to people with no intention of living in them. Some were rented out but others were merely second homes. If people can do this then we definitely do have the room. Perhaps not where you’re living but the country is not full.

Well not just white people anyone who needs accommodation of all background 😂. Tbf he means people on the housing list with nowhere to stay, so the government pays for the stay.

Our lack of social housing is because *checks notes* aaaaah yes because we sold it all off to the lowest bidder, banned councils from building replacements for decades and then sat back and went “oh we have no social housing left. Must be the migrants fault”

Developers have permission to build one million homes in this country but they have chose not to do so. Councils still face strict limits on the number of houses they can build. Housing shortages are a result of government policy and greedy developers, not asylum seekers.

Agree with this a lot, then you have to factor in people in to equation as well. How often do you see campaigns from residents when empty units are turned in to shops or people that live in villages kick off a fuss to new housing estates being built. There's a huge demand for housing, but the problem is the housing market is built for 2 people. It's very difficult to own your own property as a single person, especially if you want to own a house rather than a leasehold property.

I.. just don't know what to say. I do think it's likely the questions have been engineered to give the appearance of a certain result (the followup 'how serious is the issue' is something that is going to have some people saying it is serious even if they are pro-immigration) but within those results there will be a lot of people who would be incredibly happy to spend vast amounts of money using our military to turn away desperate people.

 

This could be all fixed if as with above posts Britain could invest more in housing - to be this concerned about the refugees when they're coming in such low numbers is to say nothing of what it will be like in the future.

I literally came here to post this. I actually got upset reading it. I've actually saw so many Facebook 'friends' comment on the news articles and go on about how he should have stayed in France and how he only wanted to come here to take advantage of our benefits system blah blah. The usual bollocks. I just can't relate to that mentality. How people can use a laughing emoji and celebrate a DEATH of someone trying to make a better life for themself....how can you have that mindset?
