Posted April 20, 20187 yr Arsenal have announced that Arsene Wenger is to leave the club at the end of the season after 22 years at the club. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43834283 What do you make of this? Who do you think will take over?
April 20, 20187 yr Well this will satisfy my dad and sister at least, I swear not a day goes by where I don’t hear them moaning about this
April 20, 20187 yr I'm gutted about this to be honest, ArsenalFanTV will never be the same again! On a serious note Arsene Wenger is one of the best managers in English football history despite how recent years have been his legacy will never be forgotten. It will be interesting to see how Arsenal react to this next season. And coincidently Channel 5 are showing a programme next Monday at 10 PM about the Wenger vs Ferguson feud.
April 20, 20187 yr I can't see that going down too well with the fans^ Well it's been a long time coming but I thought he'd be stubborn enough to see out his contract. I expect them to struggle even more next season initially as we did post-Fergie.
April 20, 20187 yr I wonder how much patience the Wenger Out lot will have with their transition to a post-Wenger landscape. It has not gone particularly smoothly for United
April 20, 20187 yr The trouble with Wenger is that he had no respect for tradition. He took over a club that had long been known for its boring football and turned them into a side that was entertaining to watch. They need someone to restore their former tradition. How about Tony Pulis or Sam Allardyce?
April 20, 20187 yr Can't believe it's finally happening :o Whoever gets picked will have a lot of hype to live up to, that's for sure.
April 20, 20187 yr I don't follow football much, but its a sad day for a manager that has been in the job for that long like Arsene Wenger to be going :( Even sadder that a lot of the fans turned against him in the last year or so. Edited April 20, 20187 yr by The Snake 🐍
April 20, 20187 yr End of an era! Outside of top-flight football concerns (for whatever little I follow I consider Arsenal my preference in clubs that ostensibly have a chance to win the title) I have good and bad feelings about this. bad: That wonderful name coincidence which has always pleased me will end and Arsenal will probably end up with one of the many career-hopping managers. good: the closest thing I have to a team in the League, Exeter, will now have the longest serving League manager for however long Paul Tisdale remains there.
April 20, 20187 yr Sad news, but a change was needed, he has done well for the team, I just hope they don't get Brendan Rogers.
April 20, 20187 yr bad: That wonderful name coincidence which has always pleased me will end Yep its sad that name coincidence is over :( I also loved the brief time a few years ago when Mancini was manager of Man City too with the slight name similarity there too!
April 20, 20187 yr He has done a brilliant job over the years, I mainly remember the Invincible season.
April 20, 20187 yr Yep its sad that name coincidence is over :( I also loved the brief time a few years ago when Mancini was manager of Man City too with the slight name similarity there too! As long as you pronounce it with a glottal stop, there was also the time in the 1970s when Brighton were managed by Brian Clough.
April 20, 20187 yr He was a great manager, but frankly he has not evolved with the times, but that through his own arrogance or just a lack of understanding of how the game was changed since he was a key innovater. For some reason he totally changed his philosophy. I'm sure Arsenal fans will be pleased and I do think they needed a change, but success is not going to come overnight. Rodgers could work, he is a good manager but he is also severely limited and un-pragmatic. I don't think his favoured tactics are worthy of winning a league title/ Champions League. The year he almost won it with us, he completely changed everything he previously stood for.
April 20, 20187 yr Author When Wenger leaves he's taking the remains of the culture of long-term top managerial runs with him possibly.
