Very big sales for take that! Should do 110k+ by the end of the week.
Amy McDonald having a greatest hits makes me feel OLD.

It used to be normal for manufactured pop acts to release one about 3 or 4 years into their career though!

As explained it was because of the tour packages.

If only Musics Too Sad Without You by Kylie and Jack Savoretti could hold a Top 100 position.

hopefully Rita can sneak into top5with Spotify and Amazon sales she's less than 100 copies behind no.5

Not exactly. The large numbers are just pre-orders. You weren't required to buy an album in order to get a concert ticket. They've been top 20 on Amazon since they announced the release of the album, which shows that people have been pre-ordering constantly regardless of the tour.

Anyway, if they are frontloaded, what stopped Rita or any other artist that released this week from being the same?

Even what they accomplished in 2 days of sale is more than what the other artists managed in 3 days+ pre-orders.

Exactly.

People trying to do a huge sales down while trying to talk up or make excuses for other artists like Rita Ora selling very average at best numbers.

Why are you comparing Take That and Rita Ora though? They are quite obviously on totally different levels when it comes to both singles and albums at the moment. Does Rita have to sell the same amount as Take That for you to be impressed by her figures? Let's put things into perspective, because on a relative basis, BOTH acts are doing just fine. As for Milly's point about why Rita isn't as frontloaded, it's because she currently has a broader appeal as opposed to selling mostly to an existing fanbase. Take That can sell more, but I expect Rita will sell more consistently past Christmas once the gift-buying season is over and she continues to get more singles success.

However, the daily sales for Take That are proving it is definitely frontloaded. 67k -> 18k -> 5k is a sharp decline even though it's going to finish on impressive sales nonetheless. It will plateau and sell well over Christmas I'm sure, but let's not pretend it's going to keep up these huge sales every week. It HAS been boosted by the tour packages and the fanbase buys, it's nothing to get defensive about, it's a fact proved by its decline in daily sales since day 1!

Usually as their career was ending. Amy McDonald isn’t manufactured, I’m just bemoaning that 2007 was 11 years ago.

I'm not sure why you would compare the 2, the Spice Girls haven't released anything in 11 years and not released a studio album in 18 years. What you can see is that if the Spice Girls get it right and offer the public what they want (want they really really want) they can still be insanely successful with 800k concert tickets being sold in the last 3 weeks shows you.

I'm sure a music release could be very successful if they got it right but maybe they just don't have the time to try to make that happen these days. 2 of the 3 from Take That have nothing else to do bar wait for Gary's call about what they are doing next and when.

What does that last paragraph even mean? If the Spices wanted to release new material that would hit the top they would??? And TT have nothing better to do?

We saw Headlines returning to the huge no11 in 2007 in comparison to TT coming back stronger than their peak in 1991-96, says it all really. Spices are basically a retro act who come back with a few concerts every 5 years to fill their pension pot!

Rather enjoyed this Take That album - the Odyssey 'versions' of songs were radically different and not always for the better but the Odyssey 'remixes' were only subtly different and slightly modernised - found it quite nostalgic and glad it didn't overlook the vast majority of TT Mk 1 songs. Poor Promises and I Found Heaven though, highly underrated tunes. Think I bought both at the time as an 8/9yopoppicker! I understand why they tried to do something different for a career-spanning best-of. If they didn't, it would merely be something you could knock up on Spotify in ten minutes. The rather rubbish new songs did spoil the momentum a bit.

I think my post was pretty evident what I meant. Where did Take That's latest single chart? Has that stopped them selling lots of albums this week? I'm sure if the Spice Girls truly wanted to make a new album and be successful they could more than manage it.

They have toured once in the last 20 years and are going on tour next year. Maybe shock horror they just want to do it and aren't needing to tax dodge as all have healthy solo careers. I'm sure they could have milked their 20th anniversary and loads of other times but haven't.

But they have never had a successful comeback since the 1996-99 era which was the point I was answering to your statement about them 'easily being able to coke back if they wanted to' which was the nonsense non factual point you made.

I've nothing against the Spices and wasn't the one to start the comparisons but they very much are of their time whereas TT have had success in many eras!

They haven't made a studio album in 18 years, I'm not sure what your point is? I've said I think they could be very successful if they wanted to. You can't say they haven't made a successful comeback when they haven't tried.

They have announced 2 tours since they split both have been incredibly successful and released 1 greatest hits which was #25 in last week's chart. For them new CD releases are obviously not a priority, they are notorious for not letting unreleased material be released or having cash in releases released.

Why are Take That so much bigger now than the Spices? :(

Jess Glynne is coming for that Xmas no.1 :(

You can't compare the two really. Back in the 90's Spice Girls actually eclipsed Take That's success they sold far more albums and singles considering the amount both groups released in the 90s. Also they girls have always remained in some way in the public eye and at least one girl (often more) has been successful in different fields (from music to documentaries to books to yoga to talent shows, fitness videos etc etc etc) so the public has never really had the chance to miss them to the same degree Take That had. Literally bar Robbie the remaining four who got back together and had huge success were total nobodies before they reunited, I mean Mark went on Big Brother...

I take my hat off to Take That though, they got it totally right with their comeback. The right time, the great music and the work ethic to rebuild it all, sadly Spice Girls as a group are not really invested, they have too many other opportunities available to them.

Fair enough but to try and claim they would be successful when they have long had any comeback is wrong and Headlines was a flop single comeback which may subsequently have had an effect going forward with further releases.
Ultimately my point is that it's all about the music with TT throughout their career.

Yes Headlines wasn't a chart hit... however the album it was supporting has managed to sell over half a million copies in the UK (and still selling)... suggests that actually they could shift albums again if they wanted to record a new one.

They are not going to have singles success, just like Take That can't achieve singles success anymore either. Both are too 'retro' as you put it, to attract the younger streaming audience. Their audiences would buy the albums.
