In terms of us in the UK who’s the better choice of winner here? I’ve read that Trump is more for trade deals and what not than what Biden is. Not that in any way I’m supporting him just trying to think of one good thing what may come from this.

Biden.

It will force the crazies in our government to back down and for a proper trade deal with the EU to be agreed before 1 Jan 2021.

Biden is also of Irish ancestry and the democrats would take a hard line to the government's attempt at breaking the GFA. Not to mention Biden winning would likely help shift the global stage away from the far right.

There's also perhaps another benefit in that generally the dollar's value is likely to fall as the democrats get through a very large stimulus package as well as trying to reverse some of Trump's protectionism regarding trade. That could help keep inflation low in the UK - although whether that is a good thing or not is up for debate.

I’m thinking Trump has won this again hands down.

I think that a lot of older people (like 65+) will be voting for him and that could swing votes in his favour. I know Biden is the most popular choice you see online etc but I don’t know I’m really feeling like Trumps got this and it won’t be as close as people think. The silent majority usually ends up winning these things too. Last year seemed more likely that Hilary would get it than it did this year for Biden and he still got in. I’ll be stunned if he loses.

If this election was this time last year, yes what you said I would agree with. But the impact of Covid though is a big factor, I mean surely it must have eroded the support of older people for Trump because of his less stringent approach to it compared to Biden.

As I said before the silent majority is with Biden I think this time, despite the Trump trains and the big rallies.

I'm going to bed assuming the worst so any change from that will be major! As others have said, I can't remember the last time I was pleased with political news! Would be a massive step for the US to have a more progressive (relatively) candidate and show the world where they want to go. Trump has been the most influential person in the world in the last four years for all the wrong reasons! Regardless of his policies or even his views, you can't behave like that as a president and clearly lacks the respect, class and humanity to represent a whole nation.

Phil Scott, governor of Vermont, told journalists an hour or so ago that he voted for Joe Biden. This perhaps wouldn't be remarkable in any way if he wasn't a Republican, but he is, making him the first incumbent Republican governor to publicly support the Democratic nominee, so this is huge.

The first poll is going to close in a few minutes time so hopefully the first result wont take too long to come.

He would also be the second catholic president.

But he would likely start more wars abroad than trump would unfort!

What channel is everyone on tonight?

America's a centre-left country voting for centre-right and right parties.

Morning, still hopeful and will be on whatever channel I can get inbetween my lessons (just my luck to be working but at least it's a light day so I'll be finished for the later bit)

I am hoping so, I want a good night's sleep but I also like an exciting election so am not sure whether I want Biden to win Florida or not! Obviously I want Biden to win in the end though.

Not got anything on but Andrew Neil is doing his last ever broadcast for the BBC from 11:30pm.

Early results will come from Kentucky etc etc so I can already assure you they all remaining Red!!!

I think around 8-9 PM EST most of the key states will start presenting results.

The only likely result for the first hour is Kentucky, so don't put too much hope on that giving any sort of picture, it's deep Trump country. Florida in an hour will be the first interesting one.

Trump likes to mention at his rallies about being against foreign wars. I guess that's one of his good points. There is no evidence Biden would enter the US into more wars abroad, is there?

Also, when Florida comes in, because of THEIR rules, they count mail-in votes first. So the first projections could be way better for Biden than they are in reality. Keep hopes checked.

And still he almost started two wars in four years because of his ego lol.

Well if Trump declines his share in the vote there it could be a warning sign for him overall.

The fact that states like Montana, Alaska, Missouri and Texas are now competitive is something I would have laughed at this time last year. I don't expect Biden to win any of them but the GOP should be very worried about the polling coming out of these states. If they go from solid to likely/lean then the GOP just needs to implode and start over again.

The Biden campaign does seem to be quite cautious internally, but Democrats usually vote later in person so it seems about as uncertain as ever right now.
