Agreed on AFU being their best artwork!! Gorgeous :heart:

Their second best song for me, only just behind Notorious. My clear top 2 :wub:

EGO [8.66]

Highest: WinterFreeze, George.keh, Juliano, Lukuzz & Pippa (11); Jonjo, slowdown73, LMLou, ThePensmith, Calum, Rob S, Spiceboy, Cameron, kye, FUTURENOSTALGIA, SamJudd & Jay (10) + JosephInSpace & Mack. (09.5)

Lowest: Mullo (04) + Jade & ElectroBoy (05)

Starting the top 3 off is Ego. After 'Forever Is Over' just about killed all their momentum for the era, the girls managed to turn it around and salvage what they could by releasing this all out pop banger! 'Ego' went on to be another top 10 hit for them and ended up becoming their 2nd longest running top 200 hit (thanks Jay :kink: ). It's always been one of my absolute favourite Saturdays songs (it's actually 2nd to 'Higher') as I don't think you can get as much more pure pop and this! The production is so wholesome and the chorus/hook is insanely catchy! The video is entertaining except for one (pretty big - for me at least) drawback... the scene withthem around the cars doing literally NOTHING during the explosive chorus... why didn't they do a choreo routine!???? UGHHHHH </3 It kinda sucks the life out of the chorus a bit when you watch it, imo. I don't mind the odd shot or two and flitting between the scenes etc.. but mehhhhh. Whatever. This is an absolute B O P and thoroughly deserving of top 3!

Up to win for me!

I think the best two are the top two here though! Solo Higher is a BOP the Flo-Rida version isn’t needed though tbh they cut out Unas solo :cry:

Two of their top 3 hits on here being amongst their lowest peakers too! Higher only just making top ten and Ego a number 9 smash. Their peaks and highest sellers where always all over the place tbh both their #2 smashes are amongst their least popular tracks overall.

Much prefer solo Higher. Mollie and Una’s bridge :wub:

HIGHER (feat. Flo-Rida) [8.73]

Highest: Jonjo, ThePensmith, Spiceboy, Chapman, Juranamo, vibe & SamJudd (11); Wall, Calum, JosephInSpace, George.keh, Mack., Cameron, Prettylittlebry, Tawdry Hepburn, Juliano, kye, Jack & Jay (10) + LMLou, Herbs & Adam (09.5)

Lowest: FUTURE NOSTALGIA (00), *CENSORED* (01) + Jester (05)

So the iconic Higher finishes in 2nd place! One of my favourite pop songs of last Decade. That chorus is HEAVENLY and about as perfect a pop chorus as you're gonna get! In fact, I think it's really high up in my all time favourite list. It's really addictive and just about everything a pop song should be. Sing-along verses, killer chorus & hook all lathered in a perfectly produced pop backing! A depressing peak of #10, that didn't hinder the chart performance of this track as it is one of their biggest hits. The video is iconic. Tell me you haven't looked at a zebra crossing in the same way since you saw this video!!! :D Also, I really, R E A L L Y need people to see this performance of drunk Una absolutely KILLING this performance *.*

UP [8.93]

Highest: Jade, Bre, Jordan Lee, SevenSeize, Tawdry Hepburn, Jester & Davidson (11); Calum, WinterFreeze, diamondtooth, George.keh, girlsaloudjunkie, Prettylittlebry, Chapman, Adam, Juranamo, SamJudd & Jay (10) + Herbs & kye (09.5)

Lowest: BiLLYx (01) *Everyone else gave a score of 7 or higher*

There we have it Up is Buzzjack's The Saturdays Singles Rate 2020 Winner! A single score of 1, making that 45 posters scoring the song a 7 or above! It was the follow up to 'If This Is Love' and went on to be a HUGE top 5 smash hit for them. If someone with access to sales (*cough* Jay *cough*) could confirm or deny this, but is this their biggest selling single? Which is amazing considering they've managed to out-peak it several other times, but this is their longest running chart hit! A song that I don't think is very well remembered in the eye of the public, but I imagine it'll be familiar with most if not all, if it was pointed out to them. It definitely feels like (to me at least) that 'Issues', 'Higher' & 'Just Can't Get Enough' are more remembered (but I think that might be down to just them usually soundbedding everything :lol: - although I think I hear the 'Up' instrumental being used a fair bit too so idk maybe it is remembered?). A deserving winner, even if it's not my personal choice. Infectious and catchy, with lush production. The bouncy production makes this tbh.

Thank you to every single one of you who took part and made this such a roaring success! It's been so good reliving the discography of The Saturdays and I think this rate came at a really good time :wub:

Up next we will be rating THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS Singles. If someone would like to open it up, feel free to start whenever. If nobody has opened it up by Saturday evening/Sunday morning (basically midnight) then I will open it. :D

higher is abysmal and up is their 2nd best so i'll take it

Thanks a lot for hosting this Jonjo, you did a fantastic job & I've enjoyed reading all your commentaries! :wub:

I really wasn't expecting Up to win, but I'm pleased that it has! I do love Higher, but Up has the edge for me (my overall favourite is All Fired Up though). I was completely obsessed with Up from the very first time I saw them perform it (when they were the support act for Girls Aloud! :heart: ), and I was so pleased for them when it became their first Top 5 hit. I still think it holds up as one of their very best songs, so I'm glad BuzzJack by and large feels the same way.

I've written a lot of chart/sales related stuff below, so only continue reading if you're interested :kink:

Up is actually their 4th best seller Jonjo, behind What About Us, Higher and Ego! Those three singles are all Gold certified, but unfortunately we're still waiting for Up to join them. It must be getting close to doing so though. When Official Charts published their Girl Bands Best Sellers list in June 2019, it had Up in 70th place and Girls Aloud - Call the Shots in 71st. Call the Shots was certified Gold two weeks ago, therefore it's overtaken Up. I would estimate that Call the Shots had sold ~386,000 when that list was published. Destiny's Child - Jumpin' Jumpin' in 69th place went Gold not long after the list was published, on 26th July 2019. Up doesn't do very well on streaming unfortunately, so it must be crawling its way to 400k. Fingers crossed it won't be too much longer!

The longevity that Up attained in the UK chart was pretty bizarre, but amazing! I'm fairly sure at the time it was the longest time any girl group single had spent inside the UK Top 40. Its 19 weeks in the Top 40 outlasted Spice Girls' Wannabe, which managed 18. Little Mix have since bettered this, with 20 weeks in the Top 40 with Shout Out to My Ex and Touch.

It's annoying that two of the songs that charted higher than Up in week 1 (Geraldine McQueen - The Winner's Song - #2 & Leon Jackson - Don't Call This Love - #3) had far shorter chart runs, and sold a lot less. The Saturdays did better than Geraldine and Leon in the download chart, but physicals let them down in that opening week.

Chart run comparisons:

02-10-19-46-75-00-00-00-00-46-71. [Geraldine] (4 week absence from the Top 100 before re-entering)

03-11-20-42-79-00-00-00-00-00-00-93. [Leon Jackson] (6 week absence from the Top 100 before re-entering)

05-06-07-13-18-22-26-29-35-45-35-29-32-33-32-37-37-27-40-36-45-48-52-45-43-64-73-81-65-70-75-79-85-94-95-86. [The Saturdays]

P!nk - So What was at #1 in that week, while Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire was #4. Sex on Fire stayed ahead of Up throughout the entirety of Up's chart run, but So What eventually dipped below Up. 16 weeks of Up's chart run was at higher positions than So What in the Top 100, and So What wasn't Top 100 in the final 3 weeks of Up's chart run.

~~~~~~
Higher was so lucky to get a peak of #10...
#10 - 32,499 - The Saturdays feat. Flo Rida - Higher
#11 - 32,441 - will.i.am & Nicki Minaj - Check It Out
... just 58 sales between them! If Higher had peaked at #11, I still wouldn't be over it today tbh x
It did really well in the weeks leading up to its physical release, spending 6 weeks just outside the Top 20:
26/09/10 - #22 - 12,374
03/10/10 - #25 - 11,402
10/10/10 - #24 - 11,831
17/10/10 - #22 - 13,883
24/10/10 - #25 - 15,196
31/10/10 - #22 - 14,817
07/11/10 - #10 - 32,499
Higher has done tremendously well in the streaming era; its sales total must be well into the 500,000 region now. I bet it'll be Platinum within the next couple of years!
Not a bad winner even if it was never a major favourite of mine. Would have preferred "Ego" to have won.
Great results throughout.
Happy that Up is the winner. I’ll be honest, for me it hasn’t aged well but not TOO badly. But it’s an iconic song and their first big hit that put them on the map 💙
Would've preferred the top 3 to be in reverse order, but decent results all around
Anyone else remember the clip of them seeing the final edit of the video? Was so cute!
Up has always comfortably been my favourite of theirs, so CHEERS to the best song winning! *.*
'Higher' and 'Up' are easily their best (no mean feat, as they have tons of great singles)... So glad they are rightfully top 2 here!
Didn't get around to voting in this but congrats on the perfect choices for the top five there! Would have swapped the order a bit to have Higher below All Fired Up and Ego (the latter would have had my 11!) but other than that, very good results!
