Yeah... the 2 companies who hate pop like Katy's anyway...

EDIT: When it comes to pop albums I really don't take most critics seriously in all honesty, but those 2 publications are always at the very bottom of my list for who I trust with pop album reviews

The reviews ive seen have been terrible

NME gave it a 2 out of 5

And Pitchfork also gave it a bad review

She hasn’t had one critically acclaimed album, or one even well reviewed. It’s not a surprise. I don't think her career, in general, has been received particularly fairly in comparison to some of her peers.

Should I bother with the album? I've only enjoyed NRO, all the other singles she's put out since have done nothing for me

I don't think they necessarily represent the best of the album, the two songs in the 'fan favourite' poll - Cry About It Later and Teary Eyes as well as the album closer What Makes A Woman are worth checking out to get a better picture of the album.

Okay the 'Tucked' animated video has me cackling!

I wouldn't be mad if they made this a single either with a real life recreation of whatever this is!

Absolutely brilliant!

Honestly, I don't care that it's an animated video, but use that as the official video lmao! Incredible.

Absolutely. The general consensus seems to be "why the hell were the songs which were picked as singles outside of NRO chosen when there's SO much better on the album"

What’s the official first day Spotify streams for this?

Stan Twitter has multiple different figures and they’re so far apart from one another I don’t know which one is real

7.8m sounds the most true to me.

I seen one saying she done 32m but that sounded very high

I’ve also seen 17m and 25m too. Looking at Apple and Spotify’s single chart data though 7.8m feels the most like the real figure to me but iirc I think even Witness outdid that

Yes I saw Witness did 10-11m.

Only Love is so LUSH. I got quite emotional listening to it. Make it a Winter single, please.

I'm not surprised that the album is excellent, as I liked most of the singles (Small Talk & Harleys in Hawaii are so underrated!). :cheer:

Don't forget Witness had actual hits leading into the album... not a hit that was over a year old.

But yeah I don't really care for the success of this album so much, I mean it'd be nice, but I don't think we need to be worrying about Katy's future whether this does well or not. She's happy and given us a really enjoyable, good pop album with it and it was more of a personal journey for her to get this out.

Well I’ve heard the album in full now. It plays very safe. There are some nice songs but it doesn’t hit any of the high notes from prism or teenage dream. I’m really glad they included small talk and never worn white on the deluxe. The Japan edition also has two bonus tracks namely; message from Katy and high on your supply. Has anyone heard these?
I think as a whole album this could be better than Prism for me! Prism had some instant standouts and higher highs but as a whole piece Smile is stronger all the way through and it’s an album I could say I’d listen to all the way through without skipping. Yeah this is mostly a hit for me just questionable single choices.
I'm really impressed by this album, didn't expect a lot but I don't think there's a single dud here tbh! It does play it safe, it's nothing groundbreaking but sometimes, you don't need to be. It just feels like the right album for her right now, you can tell she has released what she wants to and it's been a healing process for her. From the new tracks, my highlights would be Teary Eyes, Cry About It Later and Not The End O The World, but like a said not a single dud. It's not 10/10 after 10/10 but it's a consistent album with some bops that I love, you can just feel that she's happy and that's priceless.
Really like the album. I hope "Cry About It Later" is the next single and does something!

I've heard High On Your Supply, it's pretty good.
