It really does feel like we are at a turning point — not just with how the government is acting — but with shifting public opinion, the constant stream of scandals/bad news and UK journalism waking up.

I'm sure the government are banking on this all disappearing, especially as they have four years until the next election, but there is definitely potential here for another Black Wednesday.

Awful. Ignored every question about Cummings then said we can all have a family BBQ in the garden, except you then can't use the toilet and have to wipe everything down. Are most people going to follow that? Are they hell. It's so obvious that we are neither here nor there with the R rate. I agree we have to get the economy back up and running, but they have said there will be local lockdowns..

Had my niece's family in the garden yesterday with 5-year-old and the dog. My parents loved seeing them, it cheered my mum up no end sitting in a wheelchair in the conservatory while they were 2m away and chatting happily for her to listen to (she can't talk). We have a downstairs toilet which we don't use, right by the front door, for visitors with sink and soap, and I clean it and put fresh towels in after visitors have gone, and it's closed off from the rest of the house by another door. When they've gone, leave it a couple of days then go in and clean it again.

Piece of piss. Johnson can go f*** himself, I'll decide what's best for my family we all know where we've been and are all at risk, his advice on anything is worthless. We have the biggest death rate in the world. Thanks to him and Herd Cummingsimmunity.

I’m in Wales so restrictions aren’t even as loose as England but I’m actually having family in my garden tomorrow. It’s my brother’s birthday so I’m having him and our mum and dad round for an hour for tea and cake. My mum is sorting the tea and cake so that we’re socially distant, I’m going to set the garden up for social distance and it’ll be for less than an hour. It’s army house because my parents have a dog and you can’t access my brother’s garden without entering his house. This will be the first time I’ve seen any family in person for 10 weeks. I was nervous about breaking the rules but as long as we’re safe, surely it’s ok. It’s not like we’re doing a Cummings.

Well the Government have said we can use common sense now, so all rules are out of the window. Why I have no doubt that both of you will adhere to being as safe as possible, the problem is many other people don't. But I also agree to just totally f*** the Government now. The good news is I think they have damaged themselves with journalists at least, so I can't see them being too forgiving.

Worryingly we do seem to be morphing in to a Trump-led America. I'm wondering if this was the strategy all along.

Yeah, I’ll be fine because this is as far as I’m willing to go and I doubt we’ll even do this again for some time. But the behaviour of Cummings has only given justification to those who aren’t careful.

377 deaths in Britain today against 66 in France, with some countries hit really hard in March doing even better, such as just 2 in Switzerland and 38 over the course of the last week for Spain.

A quick calculation suggests that more people are dying daily in Britain than the rest of Europe put together right now.

How are people still dying of it? This must be doctors and nurses and key workers, right? Or old people who have had it for a long time and are only now succumbing?

I really don't understand how otherwise the numbers are so much more than elsewhere in Europe when we have all been under house arrest for three months except to go food shopping.

Has anybody thought that parks are going to be at nearly full capacity with people meeting up with six other people which means there will be less space for social distancing

I honestly would be more worried if it was healthcare workers and key workers, given in other countries like The Netherlands the over 50% of deaths are 80+.

It must be care homes in England

Also it's only been a little over 2 months :kink:

Ok so saw on the Coronavirus Podcast just now that there were as many as 54,000 new infections in England over the last week.

Sounds like track and trace will be easy 😐

I started early :') this is my week 11 or 12

I can’t understand how England are loosening their lockdown this much when so many are still dying. Weren’t the death and infection rates much lower in other countries when they got to this point? I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a loosening but Boris seems to think it’ll be business as usual by the end of June.
More infections, more deaths not a surprise at all. VE Day when everyone was led to believe the PM was going to announce everyone was free to do what they like, even conga in the streets. Why did they announce he was going to make an announcement 5 days ahead of the actual announcement and with a Bank Holdiay celebration in between? Surely that would be utter madness to a sane person? Not to one looking for excuses to get his f***wit off the hook. I'm talking about Cummings planning the whole farce to get himself off the hook of course. Johnson is the f***wit who does as he's told.

I'd like to see the daily rate of infection rates but that one thing the media NEVER talks about.

It's obvious that Boris has decided the economy is more important than people potentially dying since the start of May. And this was a man allegedly in intensive care which gives a 50/50 survival rate....yet he still is back to business as usual. You could tell at yesterday's update the scientists weren't happy and warning people about social distancing. They've obviously been told that the economy is opening again no matter what their scientific intellect shows.

Its so they've got things to announce that can shift the public away from Dominic Cummings

I think some of the changes are, but not on the whole. Isn't the issue with the economy that we have to get it going again? I work for a food manufacturer and while we have been impacted, we still produce food for the nation. They are forecasting the economy to not even be at the same level at the start of 2020 until 2025 and will have to react and make cuts. This is a company which has not furloughed a single staff member, so God help the rest of the privately owned companies. Major companies are starting with 10% cuts in workforces because the economy has shrunk. There comes a point where we have to strike a balance, otherwise we are going to have mass unemployment.

The issue is even though the R rate is not where it needs to be, I believe with a strong public health messaging it could be "controlled" to a degree that keeps community transmission as minimal as possible. But with the whole Cummings debacle it's totally ruined that. But I'm of the viewpoint that waiting another 1-2 months will just cripple out economy for a entire generation.

Just been on a 2-hour countryside walk just outside Winchester with a friend. We went down by the riverside, only to be greeted by around 50, 60 or more kids in swimming costumes all not social distancing, blocking the path so you couldnt get by without being next to them, and basically acting like they owned the whole area. Got away from them as quickly as possible, and noticed a police car driving up the hill towards the footpath leading to the river.

That's why deaths aren't going away any time soon in the UK.

If I was a teacher I'd refuse to teach them until all kids and staff have been tested clear, cos they clearly are all taking the piss, organising big meet-ups away from adults (these are 14 to 16-year-olds I'd say) on social media and not generally giving a f*** about themselves, their family, and complete strangers having to walk away from that area or run the gauntlet.

Once you get the establishment sticking two fingers up to the rules and the police, it's hardly surprising if everyone else does the same.

Before the lockdown they said "please avoid pubs/restaurants etc" instead of just getting them all to shut completely and start the lockdown. That weekend was Mother's day weekend and people were out in massive droves. The lockdown was then announced a week after that. They should've started the lockdown two weeks earlier than they did, ramped up testing faster than they did and given a clear message, as well as sacking Cummings who has completely undermined the government's message. Are you really surprised by their incompentence? Announcements for dates of annoucements... It's no wonder we're the worst affected country in the world currently.
