Doing a cover version was the 00s equivalent of adding a rent-a-rapper  Unnecessary but easy fan base money!

I think I much prefer the rent-a-rapper ploy (Flo Rida and Pitbull forever ) although I grew up following music in the 10's rather than the noughties! The late teens/early 20's equivalent is now releasing a 'remixed' version of an existing song with a feature artist!

I Think We’re Alone Now was just a cheap cover to fill a greatest hits and cash in on Christmas wasn’t it? It was around the time people started to realise Christmas belonged to X Factor.

Madonna and Robbie’s songs are basically the musical equivalent of having a midlife crisis.

There You Go was Pink’s first single and a decent sized hit. It’s actually not bad for what it is but most Pink fans prefer anything after her debut album to anything on it.

That explains it  Doesn't sound like much thought went into it as it sounds like every Xenomania production!

Rudebox was an interesting discovery - appreciate the different sound and totally get why it is in the bottom three of his singles according to Buzzjack

I much prefer R&B P!nk to the MOR P!nk we get these days!

There You Go was a nice rediscovery for me. I always thought I didn’t like the song as I prefer her pop side but it was a lot better than I remembered!

I think it was a safe bet for a hit. Had they known the lead and GH were going to be as successful as they were, I like to think they wouldn't have bothered and just record another original, decent song.

Ariana Grande - Beauty & The Beast (feat. John Legend)

Britney Spears - Pretty Girls (feat. Iggy Azalea)

Girls Aloud - I Think We’re Alone Now

Katy Perry - Rise

Lady Gaga - LoveGame

Little Mix - Bounce Back

Zara Larsson - This One’s For You (w/ David Guetta)

I was torn between 'Pretty Girls', 'Rudebox' & 'Bitch, I'm Madonna'. They're all messes, but I have a soft spot for all of them! Madonna ended up finishing just behind the other two. My decision ultimately came down to 'Rudebox' lyrics :') Which are pretty questionable/a bit side-eye... P!nk wasn't too far behind them, along with Taylor and that's a revelation to me. I always thought I hated 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' more than I actually do.. Zayn's falsetto is excruciating though and really lets it down. The rest I just don't care for and both 'Video Phone' (always has been amongst her absolute worst for me. Vile) and 'Hype' (I only heard once prior to this and it's horrific. Just, noise to me) are right at the bottom of the pack of anyone's singles lists not just their own.

Beyoncé - Video Phone (feat. Lady Gaga)

Calvin Harris - Hype (w/ Dizzee Rascal)

Kylie Minogue - All I See

Lady Gaga - LoveGame

P!nk - There You Go

Rihanna - FourFiveSeconds (w/ Kanye West & Sir Paul McCartney)

Robbie Williams - Rudebox

Spice Girls - Mama

Zara Larsson - This One's For You (w/ David Guetta)

I know this isn't the context Beauty and the Beast was intended to be listened to in, but I really hope I never have to hear the Ariana Grande songs that were deemed even worse and not included here. This also applies to the entries of Madonna and Little Mix.

Rudebox is absolutely cringe and I do remember thinking it was terrible at the time, but does just creep in in 8th as I do prefer it to songs which are pleasant enough but dull (Spice, Taylor, Katy). It's at least miles better than Candy which is completely atrocious.

I thought Girls Aloud would probably end up being the act I'd vote for most in this, but that's 0/3 from the rounds I've voted in so far - really have managed to get rid of all the ones I think are terrible early on - probably bodes well for future rounds.

I would actually choose to listen to all of these except 'Video Phone'. The rest of them made my ears bleed or bored me to death.

Not a good round at all. Bounce Back is the only song I'm passionate about.

Robbie was only 32 when Rudebox came out

And Madonna was 56 for Bitch. She’s gonna live forever.
