I'd happily stand and tell a customer to leave and call the police if they refuse to wear a mask or leave. And I'd happily take the time to close their account if they became abusive or didn't comply. Sure, there are other things I could be doing instead, but expecting us just to ignore the situation, exposing us to the risks of the virus because people we're interacting with can't be bothered or are too stubborn to wear a face covering is not it. The bullshit needs to stop for the sake of 'omg i'm the customer my feelings were hurt because u asked me to wear a mask'.

What if they have a medical reason for not wearing a mask

I'm not talking about vulnerable groups though? I'm talking about the twats that clearly have no health problems and refuse to wear a mask because it's all a conspiracy and it doesn't affect them or anybody they know, etc. It's pretty easy to distinguish between those that are exempt and those that just can't be arsed / don't want to wear a mask anyway. Generally the former will be polite and happy to explain they're exempt. The latter will be confrontational, angry and stroppy.

Oh sorry then if that's the case. Wife's employer has had arguments in banks and stores and on the tube and several tube fines which he's just binned. Very rich man, nice man, been great to us and a millionaire many many times over. He retired at just 50, but says he's never going to wear one and doesn't care about the fines or even going to jail. He says it's his Civil Right not to have his mouth and nose impeded. Seems a rebel though as they get 3-4 parking fines a week but don't care and just pay them.

The „civil liberties“ brigade honestly anger me so much I want to burn them at the f***ing stake. The state of them. They wouldn’t know infringement of civil liberties if it shat on their face. They’re just over privileged arseholes who think the rules don’t apply to them.

It’s a respiratory pandemic, shut the hell up and cover your damn respiratory system. If we all mask up we all get back to a higher degree of normality. It’s not f***ing rocket science (but it is science)

I am not smug at all. It is simply a fact that I have panic attacks and it's a risk to wear one. Why not answer my question about your bank? Would I get a charge?

I can’t answer a question about somewhere where i don’t work.

Sorry that was meant for Calum.

I wonder if they'll also be introducing fines for people who don't wear masks correctly whilst indoors. Yes, your mask may be on your face, but if your hooter is sticking out it kind of invalidates the point of the face covering.

I agree. There's wearing them for the sake of merely complying with the law and wearing them just covering your mouth.

Like I said, I wasn't referring to vulnerable groups, but all the same there are many ways to do your banking besides actually coming inside and having unnecessary contact with others.

I do all mine online but my wife doesn't trust online or cash machines. Refuses to even use self-scan in supermarkets. I've never had a problem with online banking but she thinks they'll steal her money.

Just listening to 5 Live and a caller says someone with a lot of spare money should test the Scottish rules in court as how can it be right that you can go to a pub with friends but not have them to your home for a drink? I agree, it contradicts itself and Sturgeon should have seen this.

I would of expected that sort of rule from Boris but not from Nicola in Scotland. It’s basically another eat out to help out scheme without the government having to spend a penny. More people will be going out for a meal or a drink just to catch up with friends when they would of just probably had a coffee in the house.

Yes you are right. It's ludicrous.

Have you tried the face shield? Sometimes people who can't wear masks can wear those :)

I wonder what Rishi is going to come out with now. Surely there has to be some sort of targeted support to hospitality, sports & the events industry? They can't survive until these bloody Moonshot tests become available.
I know, but what would they rather, pubs shutting at 10 or pubs not open at all? I honestly think it is people being over dramatic. I think it will have only a small effect anyway, but it will detour some people from going out and allow businesses to operate thus reducing contact for people. It's inevitable if the infection rate gets much higher then they will stop contact with other households. I suspect that was what Whitty/Vallance suggested, but rightly for now the English Government have gone against it.

Guarantee you now, in 4-6 weeks there will be a ban on households meeting then from Christmas Day - Boxing Day they will reduce the rules and then possibly allow small gatherings on NYE and NYD as "reward in good faith".

I agree the people questioning this just want to undermine the rules so they can do what they want same for those who question having to wear masks.

Good. I'm honestly sick to death of the anti-mask brigade acting like they can do as they like and treat retail staff with the serious levels of disrespect they have been.

At my work it's been more a case of 'you need to put these posters out stating it's mandatory for everybody to wear a mask', that's turned into 'ok we can't enforce it just put up with it' because of the backlash. I really wish we were able to just turn these people away, tell them to wear a mask, and if they don't comply they can go and bank elsewhere. It's ridiculous and disgusting that in the UK customer service takes precedence over the lives of both staff and other customers.

Absolutely this regarding uk customer service the amount of abuse I get on the phone every day and me work does nothing about it. It’s at times like this the real selfish and manipulative people come out.

I totally agree. It's annoying, but some people just get so far on their high horses and have no respect for others. I don't think any of us enjoy wearing masks, but the majority of us get on with it because we want out of this mess and it helps to protect other people. Just irks when challenged people respond "I'm medically exempt". I call bullshit.

Anyway, the big move for me was asking people to return to the offices. Public transport is so much busier, it was a stupid thing to do. I think as most people pointed out, the Government tried to do too much at once which is why we are where we are today.

Thankfully I’m in a civil service job that only makes us go in one day a week and we don’t open to the public apart from appointments. Also the buses I use are so readily available I can chose one which I get a seperate seat guaranteed and there’s never a load of people on (school kids get a separate service too).

The mask issue is just ridiculous I’ve seen 85 yo woman on zimmer frames in Belfast with masks on and fair play for trying to show the collective spirit needed in these times. Whereas middle aged people who use the usual reasons for being exempt are beyond contempt imo.

Boris has found his PM mojo. Positive and firm at the same time.
