They’ve been mandatory in Berlin since April. Am honestly so shocked that they aren’t here and weren’t in Scotland until Friday. They’ve only just started fining folk for not wearing them on public transport in Berlin as the compliance rate could be higher there, but in shops and stuff it’s 100%.

Doesn’t matter how late it is, it should be brought in ASAP. It’s a simple basic move that will save lives in a respiratory virus pandemic. Frankly, anyone not voluntarily wearing one is a f***ing idiot.

As a total aside, the HUGE increase in cases in Florida is interesting: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/florida/

This is because it was assumed cases were slower to rise there because of generally unfavourable environments such as high temperatures, high levels of UV and therefore Vitamin D. However, is it possible that air conditioning has forced people into cool indoor environments where the virus is much more able to thrive and survirve? If so, is the cooler more temperate climate of Europe and less reliance on air conditioning and more al fresco dining likely to help hinder the spread here?

I see they haven't stopped flights from places in the US with high infection rates. A company in Ireland refused a family from Texas due to where they are from as they came here on holiday and didn't self isolate for two weeks. How on Earth are people allowe to come here from an area like this no questions asked??
If you didn't mention what country they are from I'd guess that immediately from the first try
There we go.

It only applies to shops and supermarkets. It doesn’t apply to all indoor settings such as pubs, bars, restaurants and indoor shopping centres

It's not really feasible in pubs, bars or restaurants is it? You'd have to remove the mask anyway to eat or drink.

As always, belated, but good to hear (Srsly Gove, what was the point?). I went to the hairdressers today and I was a bit unnerved that even the employees weren't wearing one.

Really? Were there any measures in place?

I think there would be a lot of criticism from the industry. I understand it in shops and supermarkets but in cinemas there is plenty of space to social distance and many people bring snacks and concessions in, which similar to bars and resturaunts makes it slightly difficult to implement and not sure it is worthwhile when the industry is on its arse already.

We wear our masks when moving around but can take them off when sat down (half of all indoor tables are condemned).

But tbh you rarely eat inside in France in summer, and outside there's no compulsory mask wearing.

Apparently shop-workers union USDAW is seeking an urgent meeting with the Government and want to be assured that shop workers won't be expected to enforce this. They say they've been under increased pressure for months with panic buying, shortages and queues and shouldn't have to confront people who won't wear masks. I bet there'll be lots judging by how few bother to wear them on buses around here now.

The guy that actually cut my hair was wearing the right equipment thankfully, and it's not the busiest anyway so easier to keep apart, but he was still the only one that looked like they were taking precautions.

I told y’all, they were checking public response before they made a decision. They do it all the time. Now they know we all still think Gove is a moron, they’ve brought it in.

People can easily social distance in a supermarket but they don’t. It was also saying that the only indoor places you don’t have to wear a mask is pubs, bars and restaurants so I’m guessing that you’d have to wear one in a cinema or an indoor shopping centre

It’s not so much that there’s space to social distance in stores/cinemas or not. It’s that they’re often poorly ventilated spaces. Poor ventilation allows droplets to hang in the air for longer and therefore increases the ability for the disease to spread. Face coverings reduce the amount of droplets in the air so reduce the risk of spreading indoors. Everywhere enclosed should have masks worn for the protection of yourself and of others
Sainsbury's is making wearing masks compulsory in all it's stores from Monday. Someone on another site was told this. "Mask up on Monday or no entry" Their stores so they can say who enters and who doesn't. Wonder id any other stores will follow suit.

Where did you see that? I thought Sainsbury’s are making it mandatory from 24th with the governments guidelines

I'd say considering how much extra funding and tax breaks the supermakets all got, at least all of the Big 4 will enforce masks. I guess the staff will have to wear them as well?
