The third round saw 'American Boy' poll the most votes meaning the third track in a row with a female lead vocal gets the boot! The track spent 4 weeks at #1 in March and April of 2008 until it was dethroned by Madonna and Justin Timberlake's hook-up '4 Minutes'. The song was a hit throughout the world - reaching the top 10 in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and more significantly, the US where it peaked at #9! Considering it predates the British influx of musicians in the US charts (1D, Ed, Adele etc) it was a rare thing to see a British female go top 10 on the Hot 100 (Amy Winehouse, Natasha Bedingfield and Leona Lewis are the only other ones I can think of!) 'American Boy' marked both the beginning and the end of Estelle's commercial success and she became a true one-hit-wonder with no hit singles since! I quite like the track - catchy melody! - but I'm glad Gareth lives to fight another round! :teresa:

I'm glad that went early, was never a fan of American Boy and still aren't today.
