Yeah, I know. I'm just saying for context. If I was hinting anything by it I would say so.

Don't get me wrong, I understand people's frustrations but deaths are a total useless statistic. Nobody can work out the best way to report them and it is clear that a lot of people who might be nearing death are just being killed off by covid. But clearly it is having a huge effect on lots of people. If anything I think it really shows our healthcare system up and the need to accelerate the change.

There are two news reports on on hospitals - one in Liverpool and one in Newcastle and the differences could not be starker.

I don't agree; I think its important that we know how many people a year, a month, a day, are usually dying, so we can put the covid figures into perspective. The media has a tendency to be extremely alarmist & its my belief that this creates excess stress unnecessarily in people.

There's a big difference in my book to the understanding that covid is causing a lot of people to die, maybe up to 20% more as would usually this time of year, or the imagined thought based on a lack of background knowledge that this year is The First Time people are dying in their hundreds and that because these numbers are high and unfamiliar, the literal apocalypse is here and we might as well have no hope whatsoever now and start breaking rules left right and centre, or self-harming etc.

Two very different and plausible scenarios.

But this is the impossible task the world is facing right now - either you talk it up and everyone is fearful or you talk it down and everyone waltzes about without a care in the world. The reality is people die. More people are dying from other things than covid, but the symptoms and effects of covid is pretty much a lucky dip. It does look as if you are vulnerable or obese the affects can be harsher. The reality is if you catch covid, it's unlikely you will die. You have more chance of recovering. But there is no understanding why some people are asympotatic and why it knocks others out for weeks/months.

The people is we have lockdown warriors, truth deniers, anti-vaxxers who just start peddling myths and tbh they're a massive reason why we are in this viscious circle.

And Liverpool is going to be the first city to be mass tested with the 'moonshot' programme from Friday.

If anyone is looking for some positive news before we enter lockdown on Thursday..

Over 85s and front line workers set be vaccinated from December.

I hate all this premature 'hopeful' news about a vaccine when it hasn't been verified. The final line of the article is what I am focusing on.

There is also no indication as to the efficacy of any vaccine, and the chief scientific officer Sir Patrick Vallance has been keen to play down the chances of an effective vaccine.

Also most people I would say will probably refuse to take the vaccine as they will understandably think its been rushed though.

They're not going to be vaccinating the most vulnerable people in society without making sure it's safe and properly tested no matter how 'rushed' people think it is... 👀

Seems like the panic buying has started. Huge queues reported at the Costco where we go in Lakeside and Tesco's reported big queues today with loo rolls and milk being the most sought after. Maybe people stockpiled enough hand-sanitizer.

Same at Costco Birmingham and Watford. These are queues just to get in, then you queue about an hour to get out.

But they’re morons. Surely they still have stuff left over from last time.

Well not milk!

I haven't been out this week but was told Tesco and Asda were packed full at 9am.

Reports say it's mainly loo roll that everyone's buying, as much as they can. Should be limited from tomorrow then. Who needs 100 rolls? We still have some from before. She went for some on Sat. and it wasn't busy. I knew this would happen.....

From ITV News:

"One woman was pictured leaving a Costco store with a trolley filled to the brim with toilet paper.

Others grabbed up bottled water and multipacks of crisps and cereal as panic buying sweeps England again.

In Watford, Herts, a man filled his trolley with booze, tomatoes and a giant cuddly bear at a Costco.

It comes as supermarket shelves were also stripped bare today after Boris Johnson announced a new lockdown.

This is despite repeated warnings against panic-buying during the pandemic as there is plenty of stock to go round."

But why would you hoard milk? That’s idiotic in the first place unless it’s the long lasting stuff and that’s rank.

You said people would have stuff left over but they can't have milk, unless they have a big freezer. It does freeze apparently but I've never frozen any.

I bought a ridiculous three milks when I went shopping on Saturday

But in fairness they’re only 1l Terrapacks so I basically bought a 6 pint bottle

Well not milk!

How are your supplies of non-perishables holding up from your stockpiling before the first lockdown? :D

As The New York Times notes, the researchers found that the risk of spreading coronavirus at indoor concerts is “low to very low,” as long as concertgoers follow hygiene protocols and the venue has good ventilation and limits capacity.

I still think the kinds of gigs I go to are probably going to be higher risk but this is somewhat positive news.

No need to panic buy loo rolls folks as there are said to be 100 million stockpiled in warehouses around the UK.

So ITV saying that pubs will be able to sell takeaway beer so long as it's ordered online and either paid for online or on collection but people won't be able to enter a closed pub to pay for it or collect it. So they'll need a table or stand outside and bring the drinks out and a card reader.

Also, a GP magazine has told GP's to be prepared to vaccinate all over 85's and key workers from next month, depending still upon how trials of the Covid vaccine go.
