October 28, 20204 yr Thrilled that Gotye has climbed into the top 10 for the first time. Potentially my favourite #1 single of the 2010s :o Definitely rooting for a 'no tears left to cry' win from that top 5
October 28, 20204 yr I hated Somebody That I Used To Know then and I hate it now, I struggle to see the appeal but werk, the top 5 is fab at least!
October 28, 20204 yr ksdAs4LBRq8 05 [05] Rita Ora = Anywhere = 618pts (13-05-05-) [2nd, 2017] A non-mover kicks off the top 5 as Rita Ora manages great consistency with Anywhere never leaving the top 15 of ROTD. Out of the final 5 songs Anywhere actually received the most number of votes with 27 people backing it in the final round. The song was released in 2017 and was 2nd in its heat, however in the final is the highest ranked 2017 song with 2017 heat winner Green Light only coming in at 7. Whilst Anywhere might not be the interesting or groundbreaking of songs, I do think it’s a bloody good pop song, incredibly catchy and definitely one of Rita’s best songs. Officially the song was blocked from Number 1 and instead had a long number 2 peak. it will be interesting to see if it can keep up its strong ROTD position however given its still top 5 after 3 years probably shows its in for the long haul…
October 28, 20204 yr Happy to see Gotye making the top 10 for the first time. 'Anywhere' is ok but definitely the weakest of the top 5.
October 28, 20204 yr Author great to see M83 and Gotye repping indie-pop in the top 10, and Gotye managing top 10 for the first time. Anywhere's a brilliant pop track and easily my 2nd fave of Rita's singles so can't complain at that doing well again - it's my 2nd fave track in the top 5 behind We Found Love (overall top 10 fave as well), although in the top 10 I ranked M83/Gotye/Sia higher.
October 28, 20204 yr AAAAH King Gotye actually made the top 10 :deadbanana: an insane result especially in a buzzjack-voted contest, glad to see everyone has now unanimously agreed it's a modern classic wow at Midnight City getting another year at #9 too!
October 28, 20204 yr Ahhh catching up Nooo @ Run away with me fall Yasss @ Anywhere longevity & jumps for Sia + Lorde No Tears or Robyn to win!
October 29, 20204 yr Anywhere absolutely deserves its position, an absolutely barnstorming anthem and easily one of the best songs of the decade!!
October 29, 20204 yr Rita Ora really? Erm okay I guess we are letting anything in at this point
October 29, 20204 yr Author ffxKSjUwKdU 04 03 626 Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry [3-4-] [1st, 2018] 'One Last Time' may have left the top 10, but it is still a good year for Ariana as she for the 2nd year running has 2 songs in the top five. After a big debut last year in 3rd, NTLTC holds up well - dropping a place to 4th. The song was put out as the lead to 'Sweetener' which from tomorrow will be only her 3rd-most recent album as she continues to follow the career of Rihanna by putting out 3 albums in as many years (hopefully for her fans it won't be followed by massively long gaps soon). And for me she hasn't put out a song nearly as good since, ignoring her feature on 'Rain on Me'. It really suits her vocal ability and has an interesting beat inspired by UK garage, disco and RnB. It seems Buzzjack agrees as none of her 2019 releases managed to make the top 100 and 'God Is A Woman' bowed out at 49th. 'Into You' meanwhile is now definitely in the Top 3 for a 4th year, it could very well be the year it finally wins following a run of 3-3-2-...
October 29, 20204 yr Author tg00YEETFzg 03 07 650 Rihanna (feat. Calvin Harris) - We Found Love [15-5-3-2-16-5-7-7-3-] [2nd, 2011] From Ariana to Rihanna, 'We Found Love' finds itself back in the top five for its 5th year - also continuing a perfect top 20 run. She finished in 2nd behind Adele in the 2011 round, however the support for 'Rolling..' dried up somewhat in the final with it finishing in 48th. The song is a perfect club banger and was one of the defining anthems of the EDM era, with Rihanna's vocal very much suiting the big Calvin Harris production. It became her biggest selling song ever and launched Calvin Harris as a worldwide hitmaker. It only has one more chance to get to #1 now so c'mon Buzzjack, let's make it happen next year!!
October 29, 20204 yr Aw, I was really rooting for 'no tears left to cry' to get the win this year. Ah well ~
October 29, 20204 yr Pretty great Top 4 for me as they all got at least 27 points from me: 40 Robyn - Dancing On My Own 37 Rihanna (feat. Calvin Harris) - We Found Love 30 Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry 27 Ariana Grande - Into You Robyn for the WIN!!
