So, 1,820 deaths announced today.

Sadly deaths aren't predicted to hit their peak until next Wednesday and then there SHOULD be a decline from that point.

I tend to just focus on the new cases and try and think of the logic and data and try and focus on the positives coming out of them, for example the new cases declining, but when I saw that death figure today I felt like crying. I've been very anti lockdown in the past and I think for a month or two I was starting to believe all the conspiracy theories but the last few days have humbled me completely.

All these poor people.

They didn't say.

Found it strange, they always like to point out the police etc in these kind of headline!

The deaths are pretty mad, you'd think next Tuesday/Wednesday we could have 2000 deaths which is crazy. I think the worst of all this is we have kind of become just a bit desensitised to it all. All of the anti-lockdown crew are noticeably quiet too. Pretty grim, I can't see schools opening until cases are well down to 20,000 per day at least
Glastonbury has been cancelled for 2021 :(

A given really. Up until July/August, this year already feels a bit of a write off again.

Boris isn’t even being positive in the media so that’s not a good sign either! Does seem like bars/restaurants won’t be opening until May...

I'd even say May seems optimistic now :drama:

Euros will surely be behind closed doors.

And the Olympics must also have to be cancelled completely...

If new cases continue to fall at this rate (I think we’re at 35K new a day as opposed to the 69k a fortnight ago and still plummeting), deaths fall (after they peak next week) and more and more people are vaccinated.....what need would there be for a lockdown in the spring and especially summer months? I was cautiously optimistic the last few days but now I can see us being allowed out in the summer again and then locked down in the winter...which makes me feel a bit hopeless.
Because has it yet been categorically proven that vaccinated people cannot spread the virus? Of course it'll boost immunity to those most vulnerable which should drive down cases & therefore deaths but in terms of actually spreading it I don't believe this has been determined? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Therefore I can't see them opening anything until the Summer months when more people are outside and there's less chance of spread much like last year.

:(

Couldn't they have just delayed it a bit - i mean you get better weather in August anyway...

It's a shock they haven't cancelled the Olympics yet, especially with Tokyo's cases currently. It's gutting for Japan as it would've been incredible, but it's clearly not the right time.

Euros and Olympics are different I suspect- I think partly with Glastonbury is it takes months to set up & prepare. I think the Euros will have fans, but limited capacity. And the Olympics you can create a bio-secure bubble and it can work well. But I'd also says that's probably at a huge risk or certainly stripping down some events.

100,000 people are Glastonbury is way less easy to control and I imagine getting any form of insurance will have been hard.

Northern Ireland’s lockdown is extended to March 5th. If that’s when it does indeed end, it couldn’t be better timing for me.

I get that the lockdown cannot last for too long, but that still won't be enough time to get everyone who wants a vaccine in the at risk groups vaccinated, not in NI and not in the rest of the UK either.

Yes it seems increasingly likely I think that there will be new variants of Covid resistant to the vaccine probably by winter about so a new vaccine will have to be made and a new lockdown before it is released. :( Fortunately it won't take as long for the modification to the vaccine to be made and approved as the original vaccine did.

Fines for EVERYONE attending house parties, big or small, to increase to £800 now for first offence. Priti Patel doing today's briefing is determined to clamp down on people meeting in homes. Additional fines for repeat offenders will be given out up to £6,400.

Agreed. To cancel when it's not until June seems early. May be gone by then.

That will never happen. Unless a mutant super-strain somehow rears its ugly head there’s no way that by the end of the year, with millions upon millions vaccinated, and a lot of people already having some form of immunity having previously caught the virus, we will be looking at another potential lockdown.

Yes cases may creep up a bit in the Winter, as do ALL viruses. And we don’t shut the country down every time the flu starts going around, so once we have a common vaccine that can be administered to those who require it, it’ll just be a virus that will be omnipresent (especially in colder months) and part of life as we know it. There’ll always be a chance you could get it from now on.

Is that her unintentionally bullying people?

Seriously does anyone actually know anyone having/attending house parties? I don’t know a single person who is doing this.

Just like every year :P
