June 4, 20214 yr Yeah it's weaker than the original, but it's still 60-65% odd vs the Delta variant with 2 doses, which everyone would accept. Essentially, we need the double doses, especially for the over 50s and then we need to make sure all adults are full vaccinated. This is where we are doing well against other countries as we should be able to get to herd through the general adult population. Pretty sure I read the vaccines were being tweaked to the SA variant as that's the real blow for evading vaccines. I think the main issue is that there are stilll billions of people in need of a vaccine that currently the world cannot keep up with demand. Tweaking vaccines is all well and good, but mass producing and distributing them is also an issue. Hopefully global vaccination rates will sky rocket sooner rather than later. Thankfully the beta variant isn't as transmissible. If the beta variant was as transmissable as the delta variant that could be a big issue.
June 5, 20214 yr My area of Scotland now has the second highest case rate per 100,000 in the last 7 days after being in the bottom 3 last month. :(
June 5, 20214 yr Someone in my work tested positive at the beginning of the week, so we all got home tests. Mine arrived this morning and I'm positive for covid. Now I have 10 days to spend inside being bored. No symptoms aside from a slight cough and a headache.

June 5, 20214 yr Let's hope that lack of symptoms continues. Oh I hope so too! I've seen how Ill some people can get from it. My vaccine is on the 17th as well, so thankfully my isolation is up before then. My partner is annoyed because he has to isolate as well and he took a lateral flow test as well but it came back negative on both. I've ordered us PCR tests as well.
June 5, 20214 yr Get well soon! Are you sure that you'll be able to get that vaccine? I'm not sure of the science behind it but here you have to wait 3 months after testing positive before getting vaccinated, but the flipside is that you only need one dose to be considered fully vaccinated if you've already tested positive. Instead, three doses are given to immunocompromised people.
June 5, 20214 yr Get well soon mate! What’s the scrience behind that Harve in terms of needing only one dose and having to wait three months for a jab?

I read the back of the sheet they sent me and then when Test and Trace called they said I'd have to wait 28 days minimum from the day of my first symptoms which were yesterday. (I didn't know this until my partner mentioned after I typed that last post.) As an update, someone else from my work took a test yesterday and it was negative, went to work today, felt Ill half way through their shift, got sent home and then tested positive. Such a mess. That's three people since Monday, myself included from today as well.

They'd have to close if it happened here  Catching it before the vacine must be such a bummer. I'm lowkey glad I didnt get tested when I was lowkey dying. I'm not too sure about 1 shot when I was positive more than a year ago :cheeseblock:

I'm not too sure about 1 shot when I was positive more than a year ago :cheeseblock: I have no idea  I do know that they closed early last night for a deep clean. The manager on shift couldn't get a hold of the area manager to let her know about the third positive test hough, so things may change today I've no idea how it's managed to spread around to easily in our workplace either. We take so many precautions. To top it off, I saw Abby before she was contagious, at least the NHS think so, and I haven't seen the guy, Ali, who tested positive yesterday, all week and he didn't see Abby after Last Saturday either. It's so confusing to me, unless someone hasn't been washing their hands or sanitising the staff table after they use it.
June 6, 20214 yr I’m starting to panic a bit myself now, I’m back at work tomorrow and my second dose isn’t for 3 weeks. I’m getting quite anxious about getting Covid first.
June 6, 20214 yr What’s the scrience behind that Harve in terms of needing only one dose and having to wait three months for a jab? This is what the health authority says. Something about covid patients being completely protected for at least 3 months and then there being a certain immunity memory beyond then that allows complete protection with just one dose (except for immunocompromised people who've already had covid who will have two doses). It doesn't imply that the vaccine is ineffective if given before 3 months but I guess this is in the context of very limited stocks.
June 6, 20214 yr So all under 30s will be allowed to book an appointment from Monday in England. I can't wait to book mine! @1401499683281948672 Edited June 6, 20214 yr by Envoirment
June 6, 20214 yr Some good news from Bolton that hospitalisations and infection rates are falling, so maybe not all the doom and gloom about a massive third wave. Just means those vaccinations are really important as it really does appear as if they're stopping the link to hospitalisations.
June 8, 20214 yr Fantastic news from Northern Ireland as for the first time since the pandemic started there isn't a single person with Covid in an ICU unit here. Covid patients are now down to just 15, and although there has been a slight uptick in amounts of admissions compared to last week, the fact that the total number of Covid patients have continued to fall would suggest that those who are admitted are staying in hospital for shorter amounts of time. Vaccines are awesome.
June 8, 20214 yr Is it likely they're going to actually delay lifting of restrictions on 21st June or is it just clickbait articles? I really don't know what to believe, it's so annoying lol.

Up in the air at the moment, think they will know more at the weekend from what I have read. I think in all likelihood it will probably get pushed back 2-4 weeks, that seems to be the mood at the moment. Hospitalisations are up and will probably increase, but it does appear as if we're in the exit wave but those extra few weeks for double doses ans building immunity will be key. I'd say it's 90% likely likely the date gets moved, but only by a few weeks.
June 9, 20214 yr Author Is it likely they're going to actually delay lifting of restrictions on 21st June or is it just clickbait articles? I really don't know what to believe, it's so annoying lol. The experts appear to be genuinely split - although there does appear to be a consensus that delaying too long risks pushing back any wave into the awkward autumn period (potentially making it worse) so as Rooney says the likely outcome is a delay of between 2-4 weeks, probably near the end of that estimate to allow for all <50s to be doubled vaccinated and all >18s to get one dose and schools to go on summer holidays break. The thread from John Burn-Murdoch showed the reason for unease, an exponential increase in hospitalisations (driven purely by the unvaccinated) @1402351586786037763 The main conclusions are +ve though: Conclusions: • Third wave of hospital admissions clearly underway • Further reopening on June 21 would accelerate already exponential growth • Data still suggest this wave should be less lethal • Vaccines work very well, including against Delta. They remain our way out Personally I don't have any opposition to delaying for a few weeks, I mean it'll be annoying if your birthday is on 21st June... but who cares about those ppl? :P
June 9, 20214 yr Andrew Lloyd Webber says that he'll risk arrest if the lifting of restrictions (especially regarding the capacity of theatres) doesn't happen on the 21st June.
