December 7, 20205 yr Does Amazon have a free version of their streaming service or are all their streams on the “paid for” ratio?
December 7, 20205 yr Does Amazon have a free version of their streaming service or are all their streams on the “paid for” ratio? They've been offering 3-month subscriptions for free, so those should count on the "free" streaming ratio. However it was said last year that around 1m people took up Amazon Prime in December with the Premier League promotion and got Amazon Music at no extra cost, but apparently those streams counted on the "paid" ratio.
December 7, 20205 yr Got watch out for ingrid michaelson & Jason mraz Christmas Valentine (amazon exclusive) Carrie Underwood favourite time of the year (amazon exclusive) Mary j blidge last Christmas amazon Exclusive
December 7, 20205 yr Update - Jess Glynne has dropped out the Top 10 on ITunes with Live It Up by Mental As Anything at No.1. Mariah Carey at 2 with AIWFCIY and 3 with Oh Santa
December 7, 20205 yr My Alexa played Mariah & WHAM as their first two songs last year aswell, which baffles me even more with the whole Amazon exclusive theory. But they were on ACR and Ellie wasn't, so Ellie didn't need to be the first song on the playlist to get to #1 on OCC. IIRC she was usually in the first 5 songs or so? Also worth pointing out that Amazon streams are subscription streams so worth more than free Spotify streams for instance. Not sure about the Bieber thing, except maybe it's something to do with the time period the Amazon chart covers? I really doubt Amazon would falsify data to get one of their own songs to #1. And the idea that Mariah deserves number 1 despite all the help she gets from playlists but when someone else gets there it's corrupt..
December 7, 20205 yr The whole effect of Amazon on the chart reeks. Jess Glynne is only #7 on Amazon yet aiming for as high as #3 officially? Sweet Melody was #1 on Amazon for a whole week a while ago whilst also being #1 on iTunes, 2 on AM, and top 8 on Spotify yet even that only managed to hit #3. What is going on with this? It ain't making no cents luv. Similar thing applies to Justin's Rocking Around The Christmas Tree. Any reasonable explanation? Though I suppose I'm jumping the gun a bit since we only have Sunday's numbers.

December 7, 20205 yr Acerbens post 2 above yours explains things well. Doesn't quite explain how Sweet Melody being #1 on Amazon didn't really affect its position on the charts yet Jess Glynne being #7 on Amazon (alone) is almost fighting for a #1? Same for Justin.
December 7, 20205 yr It doesn't explain it at all Little Mix have been above Jess and Bieber in all published updates from Amazon Music since its release date how is it below them when in addition to that L Mix have iTunes, Spotify and Apple data
December 7, 20205 yr Of course the big top 40 pushing she already number 1 and people are believing it so would be hilarious if she doesnt get it officially
December 7, 20205 yr Of course the big top 40 pushing she already number 1 and people are believing it so would be hilarious if she doesnt get it officially you are always so mad about Mariah, let her have her Christmas #1, it's her season! - I'm not going to comment on the Amazon streams because frankly it's complete nonsense, it doesn't make any sense for Sweet Melody to be #10 whilst being above the Amazon Exclusives (they're behind Jess I think- and at least at the time of the first mids, they were ahead of Justin), yet them being higher on the chart and we're clearly never going to find out the metrics behind it unless the OC comment.
December 7, 20205 yr Was Mariah Carey ever a midweek number 1 in previous years? I believe she was in 2018.

However it was said last year that around 1m people took up Amazon Prime in December with the Premier League promotion and got Amazon Music at no extra cost, but apparently those streams counted on the "paid" ratio.Streams while on a subcription offer count as premium streams. From the chart rules: “Premium Streams” refers to ‘paid for’ on demand streaming subscription services including any trial offers of the same; and “Ad Funded Streams” refers to ‘free to consumer’ on demand streaming services that are funded by advertising.
December 7, 20205 yr No idea what Amazon's stream numbers are like at all, but I could reasonably believe that the whole top ten there could currently be getting like 5-10 times the amount of streams a regular Amazon Music No.1 gets and that the Jess/Justin figures are correct. The whole top 16 there today is Christmas and no doubt the majority are passive playlist plays from an 'Alexa, play Christmas music' command.
December 7, 20205 yr I think in general it makes sense but if you look at what was posted above Little Mix were above Jess/Bieber on Fri/Sat so that doesn't add up
