Out in sixth place is the first of two Girls Aloud songs to be eliminated - their debut has proven more popular, or less hated depending on how you look at it lol, than their 2008 smash. 'The Promise' served as the lead single to the girl group's fifth studio album Out of Control and the girls' first single since Cheryl's newfound status as a judge on The X Factor. Cheryl's popularity and the accompanying live performance of the track on The X Factor helped propel the song to the top of the UK singles chart when it was released in October 2008. It became the girls' fourth UK number one and their second chart topper with original material (after 'Sound...'). I personally don't get the targeting of this song, I really love it. It's an anthem and Xenomania did wonders on incorporating the Winehouse-influence of the pop scene in 2008 and blending it with the Girls Aloud sound. I much prefer it to the Sugababes' attempts at the "soul pop" sound but let's not recreate stan wars. :kink:

Wrong Girls Aloud song, the Promise is decent. Still going for the overrated Sound Of The Underground.
Amazed The Promise went! Gone for Craig David
Just 'These Words' & 'Sound of the Underground' to go out and we should have a great top 3!

Sound of the Underground
I like it as a meme, but '7 Days' is easily the weakest song here for me. Looking like it's heading for top 3, while we've lost two amazing songs though :(

I'm glad The Promise was eliminated out of that close 3-way battle last round.

Tempted to vote Arctic Monkeys to help These Words (I'm assuming it's between these 2 before I've voted) but I'll just piss away my vote on Bad Romance again.

I agree 7 days is the weakest but voted Natasha, the next weakest, to keep the best song in the running.
I was very close between Craig and Natasha but went for the latter, made the right decision clearly as it is not the time for the Arctics to go yet! I like all of the remaining songs though. Pleasantly surprised 'The Promise' is out so early, it's by no means a terrible song but I've always found it pretty underwhelming, it sounds like fragments of about 7 different songs awkwardly combined into one Frankenstein of a song with none of the parts really wowing me, the chorus in particular always felt pretty clunky. But then the fact it has so many different melodies/hooks is a reason I've seen others give for why they like it so much so your mileage may vary I guess ~
Went for ‘Sounds of the Underground’. How on earth did ‘The Promise’ go before it. Easily the best Girls Aloud track and the moment they reached out to new audiences then they quit lol
