Only just catching up with this. Happy I solved 29/30 anagrams and picked up 2 points for the connection. Never would have worked out the reason for the order though, so I'm glad it's not something I'm kicking myself over! Over the moon with a 2nd place finish anyway, well done Chris and thanks for hosting, Jim :D

I'm pleased enough with 14th. It's better than I expected to get. At the beginning of the week I considered just not bothering as I didn't think I'd get any.

Even yesterday I was wondering who sang STOPlight, before realising it was SPOTlight!!

Thanks for organising and congrats to Chris on his win.

Thanks everyone for your messages :)

Sorry I missed this Jim, I had been working on it all week but thought the deadline was tonight!

I messaged you this morning as I knew you had started on this earlier in the week. Are you able to PM me your answers as far as you had got?

From the answers StoneDragon has sent me, I am suitably convinced this would have been enough for a 5th place finish:

Q1-Q10, Q12-Q18, Q20, Q22-Q24, Q26, Q30: correct (3 points)

Q28: Natalie Imbruglia - Glorious (2.5 points)

Q11 & Q25: title correct (2 points)

Part a) of theme correct (2 points)

TOTAL: 77.5 points

Here's the updated scoreboard:

1st | 94 points | chrissmith276

2nd | 89 points | Mangø

3rd | 88.5 points | Bjork

4th | 88 points | JulianT

5th | 77.5 points | StoneDragon

6th | 56 points | Dexton

7th | 55 points | Ansel

8th | 50.5 points | LewisGT

9th | 46.5 points | PeteFromLeeds

10th | 41 points | coi

11th | 37.5 points | rio309

12th | 37 points | Mack

13th | 30 points | paulgilb

14th | 29.5 points | awardinary

15th | 24 points | CJK

16th | 23 points | Riser

Thanks for hosting, Jim!

I did get the 'reached peak position twice' part of the theme after submitting (upon checking some of the chart runs of the ones I did get), but would probably never have got it genuinely, especially given that I went for the wrong artist on a couple of them.

Incidentally, Polyhex gives the run of Just The One as 12-14-13-13-22-34-49-68, however the OCC gives it as #12 on week 3 (thus fitting in with the theme of the quiz). There seem to be a few other differences between the two sources for this chart (week ending 6/1/96) e.g. Lump by Presidents Of The United States Of America enters at #17 according to Polyhex but #18 according to the OCC. Maybe there's been a correction to this chart (just like week ending 10/7/99)?

Wow, well done Chris!

I wish I'd spent more time on this quiz but idk if more time would've helped me :P I felt lucky to figure out part of the theme though with just the six or so songs I guessed correctly. (My strategy was to guess artists like Madonna, Drake and Eminem on ones I didn't know since they have so many chart hits, there was a chance I could at least get the artist correct by luck. Which didn't work out, but worth a try anyhow!)

Thanks for hosting, Jim!

Thanks for hosting, sure it took a lot of hard work to come up with those anagrams

I missed just 1 but I didn't know Lonely Symphony has a We Will Be Free in brackets :o

I kinda thought the theme had to do with re-peaks cos I knew some had re-peaked like Riot Radio

but for some reasons I thought it didn't fully fit

Sorry that I didn't get chance to enter this - I was short on time last week so just didn't have the chance to sit down and work these out. Not convinced I'd have got many other than the more simple ones anyway mind ^_^
I'll take 8th! Would never have gotten the order but really annoyed I didn't get Step Into Christmas, particularly as I'd worked out it had the word 'Christmas' in it and just stared at the rest of the letters blankly  Really enjoyed taking part though so thanks jim for hosting!

I did wonder about that. Around this time, I wrote each week's chart in notebooks, all somewhere in my loft now, but I had thought its run as announced at the time began 12-14-13-13. It was only when I went through my copy of Top 40 Charts (published 2009) in preparing this quiz that I saw it was given #12 in the third week, so they must have corrected their data in between times (there were a couple of other weeks in the mid-90s where they corrected their positions the following week, but I'd not heard about this one). The week in July 1999 seems to be a more recent correction as my 2009 book still has Lolly - Viva La Radio peaking at #6.

Just as well I included that disclaimer about using the OCC website in the other thread, as Polyhex might have thrown people off 2/3 of the theme. I did have Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait on standby for that question (once I remembered it returned to #12 after the 2013 Brits, 5 months after originally peaking there), but couldn't get even a half-decent anagram from it!

Ta, I’ll wi-wi...
