With everyone finding out about their 15th version being dispatched, I’m beginning to wonder if only about 40,000 people have bought ABBA’s album :kink:
Little Mix to overhaul ABBA sales next week, love to see it

Oh, absolutely. There’s like a gazillion different vinyl versions for ABBA’s new album.

The poor thing doesn't bother himself with facts.

Who, Tawdry?? They sold 75k in Ireland, that's what he meant. In UK they sold over 200k.

I seriously don't get why people would buy several copies of an album with competely indentical content.. are you selling them forward? It's so bizarre. I can understand cd & vinyl of course, they are different formats.

I don't think there's a single act I'd buy more than one version of an album by, even if different formats or a slightly different tracklist. If I did somehow manage to be persuaded it'd be for a small act where an extra copy might make a difference.
After knowing Ed's total sure but you surely can't have never doubted it considering Ed's last solo album did nearly 700k first week  whatever final tally ABBA end on will still be a number that it would have been fairly reasonable to assume Ed might have beaten if you asked anyone a couple of weeks ago.

I don’t see how that’s such a controversial thing to say. Sure, Sheeran might have cleared half a mil if the market conditions were favourable to him doing so, but if that were the case then maybe ABBA could have done also. Either way it’s all hypothetical so it’s a strange semantic thing to call someone out on.

Wow for ABBA! Curious as to how many sales were late orders being shipped and what was genuine sales sold yesterday.

Should be reasonably close to 200k by end of week regardless though if not more.

200k seems inevitable with those numbers. I suppose older fans are more likely to already have other stuff on physicals so that'll be driving a lot of the market, where's Ed's fans will be streaming - although going by his spotify numbers not to the level of his past releases.

I’ve got multiple variants of quite a few albums but never quite so many at once as some people on here do. I have got both the red Kid A Mnesia vinyl and the cream version on order too. Plus I already own both original albums on vinyl and 2 CD versions too.

To give as Christmas presents? To hope that the individual member pic ones may become rarities in future? Bit like the Now 4 original CD is worth about £600 now in mint condition.

Great to see ABBA adding another 10k+ a day. I think they'll have a really strong second week - possibly near 100k if they do well on the weekend. I expect a lot of people will pick up the album as a Christmas present when out shopping.
The only things I own multiples of are when they are on completely different formats (CD, Vinyl, Download etc...) I really don't see the point of buying four different vinyls for example that contain the exact same music other than for the obvious purpose of driving up chart sales and as much as i'm invested in the charts and my faves doing well to a degree, not to the point that I can throw that much money away on it.

It’s just a trait of collecting in general isn’t it? I don’t think it’s any different with music, especially if an artist or act means a lot to someone.

(ps not attempting to argue that it is sane though, I can’t explain why I do it every now and again - I’m like a magpie drawn to shiny things :( )

Also great to see Ed's sales picking up a bit. He may end up closer to 50k than 40k come Friday! I can see his sales holding steady/increasing as we get to Christmas.

back in the day it was nicer being a collector

like if Tori Amos released a single, there would be a CD1 with 3 B-sides, a CD2 with different cover and 3 more b.sides, then a 7", a 12"

then in the US it would be a different CD with different b.sides, and there also promo CDs, and German CDs, so it was definitely nicer than now

I don't see the appeal of collecting all colour variants of a vinyl... I just pick the one I like the most and I get that one,

but I know there are many people that track them and collect them all

Like Taylor did 16 different vinyls for Folklore and sure some bought them all and it was just different covers

and it's quite big for little indie artists too

If it makes someone happy to buy multiple variants and it's not hurting anyone I don't see what the problem is.

Omg this! I never understand why people are so concerned what others chose to spend their money on - if someone wants 15 copies of the same album then so be it.

But then if there is a general shortage of vinyl units, it's quite funny if some people buy 15 and some fail to get one. I would consider setting a limit, like 5/person or sth.
