It’s likely between Adele and Ed for #1 again, while All Too Well should be among the arrivals from Taylor Swift’s re-recorded Red album. There’s new singles from Juice WRLD, Avril Lavigne, Polo G, Rosalia/The Weeknd and Tate McRae, plus potential big climbs for Silk Sonic and Sam Fender

An open battle for this week’s #1 album includes new contenders from Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version), Little Mix’s hits collection Between Us and Rod Stewart’s The Tears of Hercules all taking on ABBA and Ed Sheeran. There’s also big releases from Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak’s An Evening With Silk Sonic and IDLES’ fourth record Crawler, along with albums from Damon Albarn, Courtney Barnett, Kylie Minogue, The Wanted, Ronan Keating, The Reytons, Holly Humberstone and Dave Gahan

Breakdown of the week

39 Adele - 19 ^

Excited to see the album chart battle this week. It could be quite the battle between Taylor vs Rod vs ABBA. The top 10 should all have decent sales too with Little Mix/Ed/Kylie/Silk Sonic/Idles etc.

Excited for the album sales in general this week and how acts like The Wanted are going to perform - there is so much activity this week from everyone to get as many sales as possible.

Hopefully ‘Seventeen Going Under’ will manage Top 15 too on the singles chart.

Should be a decent week for album sales all round. I'm still pretty sure on my bet that ABBA will remain at #1 for a second week but i'm less confident about betting on Rod been the highest new entry after seeing Taylor's streaming figures.
EASY no.1 for Taylor. The ONLY competition is from Rod (kind of) and Abba/ Ed (if their sales hold up). Red is her best ever album, and whilst the remake is kins of flat and lacking the powerful production of the original Red - see State of Grace, her best ever song - its popularity should easily see it above Cheesy Ed Sheeran's 12 Cheese Slices.
ABBA could lose 80% of their sales from last week and still sell 40k, admittedly they have basically zero streaming support so will be relying on physicals but the indication was that they were continuing to hold up fairly well in that regard at the end of last week.
I wonder if the fact that supermarkets were actually stocking ABBA CDs when they haven't stocked anyone else for a while might have caused a bit of a skew here, if they'd only been available the way everyone else was available would they have done that many orders.

Think Abba’s Album will get a second week at #1, Album is currently best seller on Amazon, back up to 2 on iTunes and there is Abba Night on BBC2 tonight. Oh and Mamma Mia! Film is on ITV at moment (suspect they will advertise Album in breaks).

Also think there may have been some delayed physical copies from pre-orders (only got my CD yesterday).

I mean they definitely sold more because the album was available in supermarkets, but the supermarkets obviously decided there was a huge demand for the album vs other albums which is why they stocked it in the first place.

Just seems surprising that the supermarkets would apparently stock ABBA so much more prominently than Ed. Maybe that, if true, is a direct sign of 'No.6 Collaborations Project' being a momentum-killing move from him, if its lower physical sales than his previous albums, despite that being inevitable, maybe put off supermarkets from promoting the new album as much. (It no doubt would have sold far worse than his last album regardless but a bigger supermarket push would have helped!)

I don't think you can really compare Ed and ABBA in that regard tbh. Ed is huge, I know. However, ABBA is a legendary band that actually appeals to people of all ages. People in their 50s or 60s are more likely to pick up an ABBA album than Ed's. And what's more? This is an album coming after nearly 40 years.

what Im really rooting for is All Too Well for #1 in singles :) that be a shocker!

it's 200K ahead of Easy on Me on Spotify, so if it held up well...

also the short movie is out but actually not sure if it would count, guess so

Regarding the supermarkets discussion...

ABBA's physical split (182,567 overall):

Specialists - 147,462 [80.77%]

Supermarkets - 30,648 [16.79%]

Independents - 4,457 [2.44%]

Ed's physical split in his first week (94,527 overall):

Specialists - 71,245 [75.37%]

Supermarkets - 22,423 [23.72%]

Independents - 859 [0.91%]

^What does Specialists mean?
^What does Specialists mean?

HMV, Amazon, the official artist online stores, any other online stores associated with record labels (for example Recordstore / The Sound of Vinyl)!

I wonder if the fact that supermarkets were actually stocking ABBA CDs when they haven't stocked anyone else for a while

The list of albums below all managed 100+ sales in supermarkets this week! Ed sold 12,823. 3rd to 7th in the below list all sold from 1,000 to 1,999. Although it's evident that many supermarkets have cut back on stocking albums, there is seemingly still many stores that do have a wide range of recent releases!
