Those album sales for YTD are awful. Not one album has crossed 500k yet. I suspect Adele will but doubt she will do a million this year.

They didn't last year either - Lewis Capaldi was #1 with 456k.

Yup, streaming has killed the album market. I'm surprised people thought Adele would smash it oot the park with over 400k etc, when a quick look at the charts shows the album market is dead as a dodo.

I don’t think the album market is completely dead but albums are taking much longer to sell respectful amounts. If you look at Lewis Capaldi and Harry Styles, both albums have been out a while and Harry in particular has continued selling albeit in small quantities over a protracted period. Gone are the days of albums selling 100k every week in the run upto Christmas and I suspect Adele will only sell 75k or less next week.

but actually the OCC doesn't have to move GH to the compilation chart

what they have to do is count streams for GH properly

now if you go search for the album Confetti, you stream Sweet Melody, and you give 1 stream to the album Confetti but also 1 stream to their GH

which is the most ridiculous and nonsensical rule the OCC has ever invented

why you would give a stream point to the GH if you're not streaming it? makes no sense to me

and thats how GH like Elton Joh Diamonds get 5K a week from streams and the album is not even in the Apple Album Stream top 1500

Nobody is buying the Capaldi album now, it's charting cos of streaming points

Easy on me would have passed 600k with those sales and still some missing streams and another day to go! Should reach about 620k

It’s amazing Adele will actually have the 3rd best selling album of the year after 1 week on sale

Probably only be another 2 weeks and she will be the best selling album of the year lol

Yeah Well done! Finally some good pop music tomorrow by Westlife.
8 8 172,800 682,400 Fleetwood Mac 50 Years: Don't Stop 29/11/18 6

18 18 127,200 1,983,400 Fleetwood Mac Rumours 26/02/77

So that'll be *at least* 120,000 of Rumours' 'sales' duplicated. 🤣 Album streams/Greatest Hits duplications have been discussed quite enough... But, I can't resist! The tech probably isn't there, but maybe a way of splitting (in my dreamland, at least) could be:

- labels nominate promoted singles - these are eligible to the singles chart, and do not contribute any streams to the album - this decision can not be reversed

- the remaining tracks are album tracks, and therefore streams do not count towards the singles chart - this could be based on an average of these tracks (or an average of say, the 5 or 6 most popular tracks? As people will often skip tracks on albums). Post album singles would be excluded at they point they're "nominated", moved to the singles chart and the next most popular track would then contribute towards album streams

- when greatest hits are released, "promoted" tracks will be eligible for singles chart, and the remaining tracks could be treated similarly to albums. This could potentially mean duplicate sales, but assuming listeners already gave a sale to on original release to the singles chart, duplicate sales would be minimal

- all sales generated are capped at a maximum of one sale per person full stop (and yes, I will say again, the ratio would be low so that a full sale would be achievable for most people that liked a song/album - something like 10 streams: you wouldn't accidentally stream 10 times if you didn't like the song/album), keeping both charts fresher, and preventing stuff from charting forever so labels can use the charts as a promo tool better!

Tl;Dr calculations of sales are shit... and somehow I managed to focus on a crazy amount of fictional solutions 😂 sales caps ftw

If we’re gonna get Xmas songs to #1, let’s get FONY to #1. AIWFCIY and LC have both had turns at the top

Could be 4th behind Ed, it'll be close... and after that it won't be

It’s still all additional sales units though!

Do we know what days Amazon Home Delivery was missing from? Or was it just yesterday?

Looks like Adele will comfortably pass 250k once missing data is added in. "Easy On Me" will be close to the 100k mark again too. I'm honestly surprised at just how big it's been! It's grown to be one of my favourite singles of her now.

I thought your suggestions were really good! :)

Yesterday as it says! :kink:

I think that’s right myself, not entirely sure. She’ll certainly be the first British female to do so and indeed the first have four no1 albums generally.

I’ve been having a look at this and I can’t find any female who’s done it in the UK with their first four albums! A few managed three but didn’t quite manage four so looks like Adele’s setting a record for #1 album debuts for their first four albums amongst females  (seems more common people getting four+ in a row when they’re more established as we’ve seen recently with Ariana and Taylor managing that and Madonna in the past).

As well as that opening sales wise has anyone else female wise managed to open with over 200k (or even 100k) with three separate albums?

No. :D- well certainly in terms of 200k openings.

100k+ openings are slightly more frequent

Madonna (Like A Prayer, Erotica, Ray Of Light, Music, confessions)- the latter was over 200k but I've included it in the run anyway

Leona Lewis (Spirit, Echo)

Susan Boyle (I Dreamed A Dream, The Gift)
