January 2, 20224 yr Because there is barely anything new to stream as no one releases against the Christmas songs. If something big was out people would be streaming (I believe Olivia did big numbers when released in Jan last year). It is why I hate the Christmas music invasion and think the OCC should exclude them as it has completely discouraged labels from releasing music for the best part of 6 weeks a year. Most of the big hits each January have been around long before December for example Tiesto last year but people just don’t want to listen to them. In a few weeks there will be loads of new chart entries and risers to enjoy mark my words!
January 2, 20224 yr Have the physicals not been about for ages. I know Jade said she got one for Xmas? I was referring to the album of the same name not the single!
January 2, 20224 yr Pretty surprising top 5 was expecting Peru to be #2 but just realised it's doing nothing on Amazon so far, guess it explains why it's #10 the top 5 must be pretty close, even Gayle is not doing crazy numbers at the moment Sam should at least finish ahead of Acraze who did very well on NYE but is gonna drop during the week but kinda think Flowers will end up #2 :/
January 2, 20224 yr My bet which will probably end up been completely wrong: 1. Gayle 2. Sam Fender 3. ArrDee 4. Fireboy DML/Ed Sheeran 5. Acraze
January 2, 20224 yr Come on Sam!! It’s really grown on me the last few weeks and really like Spit of You too. I’d love it if he managed No2, easily the highest charting indie hit in a very long time. Love to see it.
January 2, 20224 yr I'm hoping with Sam's popularity alongside some big name releases this year such as Liam Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys, The 1975... we could be on the brink of a full blown indie revival in the charts.
January 2, 20224 yr As long as they're making decent songs and not just phoning it in I wouldn't mind some of the bigger indie names having singles chart presence.

January 2, 20224 yr What do you mean by ‘phoning it in?’ To phone it in is to do something with low enthusiasm or effort. While the phrase may sound innocuous enough in an age when telecommuting and conference calls are common, it originates from the notion of someone who can't be bothered to show up when expected. A credible example would be that Billie Eilish bored monotone contractually obliged Spotify advert. Meh, indie I guess may make a comeback in 2022 but I'm much more here for the Gen Z appreciation of DnB.

There's definitely been a few signs lately that dance music may be going in a few different directions and as Steve said away from that Joel Corry sort of style that has been so everywhere the past few years it sounds very generic now. I'm definitely here for some more old school DnB appreciation. I wonder if we could see a bit of a push away from the whole popular established vocalist heavy tracks with a dance breakdown in the chorus and as well more 90s and early 00s influences. More than anything I think its exciting that the charts look to be heading down a path to further diversity of sounds for the first time in years based on some of the surprise big hits of 2021.

I love drum & bass very, very much, but there were lots of them doing well in the charts in the mid-10s. It barely feels like it's "gone". Indie music hasn't really been in the charts for like 15 years! And as for proper rock music, 20+ years probably. So if those genres came back it would be much more remarkable imo. Btw, have there been any drum & bass songs in the charts recently? I only know about 20 of the hit songs from the past few years.
January 3, 20224 yr Yeah indie music hasn't had a stronghold in the charts since the 00s really beyond anything more than the odd hit here and there. I'm so here for a revival.
January 3, 20224 yr Natasha Bedingfield is having a mini comeback, she is now called Emmy Meli though, how clever! :P
January 3, 20224 yr I shall ... NOT!!!!!  ??? If you're replying to a post it usually makes more sense to quote it!
