June 14, 20223 yr Not people still being salty about Mariah despite the fact she did, you know, get to #1 in the end anyway It does not matter if she got there in the end as she missed out on several weeks at number one. You cannot have one rule for one and a different for another, that is not fair.
June 14, 20223 yr It does not matter if she got there in the end as she missed out on several weeks at number one. You cannot have one rule for one and a different for another, that is not fair. Exactly, it was still aggravating she missed out on the #1 spot because of ACR 4 times before she finally hit #1. The 3 year permanent ACR rule is a farce!
June 14, 20223 yr PREACH!! Don't even get me started on that Ava Mas stunt they pulled!!! what was the ava max stunt? (not being sarcastic/ partonizing, i just don't remember what happened)
June 14, 20223 yr PREACH!! Don't even get me started on that Ava Mas stunt they pulled!!! And the shenanigans they did with Levitating last year #NeverForget #UnreliableOCC
June 14, 20223 yr Oh yeah, when they introduced this rule in mid-2017 it was all one giant conspiracy against Mariah Carey. Considering that AIWFCIY hit the top 5 in 2017 (and every year since then), and probably would've been higher if not for the rule, the theory is not so far-fetched... June 14, 20223 yr The rule was to (attempt to) stop Christmas songs in general from taking over, it wasn't specifically against Mariah lol ~ (finding it mildly amusing that a tired argument about AIWFCIY has been the thing that has finally prompted a year and a half old account to post for the first time in the middle of June xx)

June 14, 20223 yr Or God Save The Queen fans, or Stop by Spice Girls fsnd for that mstter, or Victoria Beckham fans!!! Time to axe it and just go with thr bloody Pepsi Chart , for all thst the OCC is worth.
June 14, 20223 yr I think they should just say that any song on permanent ACR that would reach a new peak without it is automatically reset- even Christmas songs as ACR doesn't stop them clogging up the chart every year anyway. Songs like Don't Blame me by Taylor Swift being on permanent ACR at the moment despite never having charted previously is equally ridiculous to Kate being blocked from number 1. I agree. They can use that as the rule now, although it would mean they have to take Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Arctic Monkeys, etc, off ACR this week because those would all probably get new peaks. But I don't see the problem, they're "new" songs in a way, and it was quite fun in the download era that many old songs could chart well. And at least they would have a rule they can follow rather than having to decide on a case-by-case basis, and then have to deal with drama on the Internet and from record labels. I'm glad Kate Bush is reset, but if there's no proper rule created then I can guarantee it will cause problems in the future, even if they're behind the scenes and we never hear about them. And I think the rule you mentioned is the best. It's a simple rule as well, and I would say justifiable and one most people would agree with. Plus a lot of old songs that get surges to new peaks would probably just be on SCR for 3 weeks and back to ACR anyway. It would also allow a lot of different Christmas songs to have a chance at making #1 (Wham and Mariah have already been #1 so they will be on permanent ACR anyway with these rules meaning things like The Pogues and Leona Lewis (basically all Christmas classics that can stream more than half of Mariah) can each go to #1 one-by-one over the years which I think would be nice. One issue is that at Christmas you would likely have situations where a song might be able to chart one position above its previous peak on SCR, so should get reset, but then a song above does the same thing pushing the first song back to only matching its peak, so they'd have to keep it on ACR (but might forget due to the changes higher up the chart). But that can be solved from starting from the top of the charts and working down. The other potential problem is that an old song might surge to a new peak, get reset, and then just stay stable for months and never consistently decline. But that's kind of what a lot of hit songs do now anyway.
June 14, 20223 yr The other potential problem is that an old song might surge to a new peak, get reset, and then just stay stable for months and never consistently decline. But that's kind of what a lot of hit songs do now anyway. Old songs which "surge" to new peaks are probably more likely to go into consistent decline, and therefore back to ACR once the effect which has caused the surge has worn off, than the likes of Peru at this point, given that its peak streams were several months ago now. So that shouldn't be an issue. They just need to get the threshold for the reset right - when Perfect got that reset which lasted 8 months, it was primarily because the market declined after Christmas rather than any meaningful boost of its own, so it had little to decline from.
June 14, 20223 yr Thrilled that Kate Bush is finally heading for No.1, it’s the most streamed track in the country and one that many people have probably discovered for the first time too. This is how the charts should be counted, based on new streams for songs which once they’ve reached a threshold they shouldn’t be counted anymore. It would serve better than ACR and would help new acts break through. If that was how the charts worked, Harry probably would have likely been toppled a few weeks back, so spaceman would have had its week and Kate would have been No1 two weeks ago. I won’t even get started on labels adding tracks to albums to boost sales and releasing 30 remixes for one song.
June 14, 20223 yr The next acid test will be all the football songs this November / December. The OCC will have to be consistent not only to Three Lions, Vindaloo and World in Motion, but to all of them older than 3 years. Omg it will be Christmas songs and football ones in the chart at the same time :drama: Deep joy. Edited June 14, 20223 yr by The Sake
June 14, 20223 yr The ACR rule actually making its way into mainstream media feels like a bit of a fever dream xx
June 14, 20223 yr Omg it will be Christmas songs and football ones in the chart at the same time :drama: Deep joy. Already prediction the Xmas top 3 will be 1) Ladbaby Ft The Lightening Seeds - 3 Sausage Rollls 2) The Lightening Seeds - 3 Lions 3) Wham - Last Christmas
June 14, 20223 yr The irony of discussing Three Lions challenging for #1 right now England 0 Hungary 4
June 14, 20223 yr I might be totally wrong here but is Kate Bush the only solo UK female to ever have a self-penned number one without any co-writers? I’m sure I read that somewhere ages ago
June 15, 20223 yr I might be totally wrong here but is Kate Bush the only solo UK female to ever have a self-penned number one without any co-writers? I’m sure I read that somewhere ages ago She was definitely the first but Dance Monkey by Tones and I is the most recent example I can think of, Move Closer by Phyllis Nelson also going back a fair bit. As for self sung, written and produced, there are none that come to mind, but would love to know if there are any examples of this or will Kate be the first? Unless Nelson was the first but I can't find any information on who produced it.
June 15, 20223 yr Neither of those are British! (admittedly it takes a bit of shine off the uniqueness that you need so many qualifiers)
