Ha well that is definitely fair. In the last Club Bizarre I edged out Cody by a couple of points and this time he's edged me out by 4 points.

 

Thanks a LOT to all the voters, and to Michael for the last set there, I really appreciate it and elated with how well 55 Year Old Daughter has done. It must be my best ever finish in UP.

 

I had considered it for UP last year, and then thought about sending it to Club Bizarre: Dark (it was the inspiration for the theme tbh), but then decided to send it here after all. There's something a bit Prodigy-esque about it that kept me coming back to it over and over again.

 

Thanks for the very enjoyable hosting Rollo, a really nice pace and nice to see it so close around the top!

 

And a wonderful winner actually, even if it did beat me, it was one of the discoveries I loved most from this contest. Nice to see Emancipator in the top 10!

The top 10 is full of flavour! It's so good that no other BJ contests top 10 can rival this masterpiece. Love almost all the songs there!

 

Congratulations to Cody on the win! Wonderland almost made the list for second listen. Melt flopped HARD and I don't know why tbh. BLACK BOX FAKE FACT didn't win so the contest is CANCELLED!!! I want my money back right now!! Jokes aside I think it's the first time on Buzzjack that the top 6 apart from my entry receives points from me.

 

I'm elated to finish 5th. I knew this would be an entry for BJ contests. I'm just finding which one suits the best. I pondered about sending this to Club Bizarre but then I think it might not be dance-y enough. The other entry I sent to Club Bizarre might get vetoed actually so I might have shot myself in the foot there. Nevertheless, An Interior of Strange Beauty is one of the very few number one songs on my chart that receives positive reaction, so I'm happy it has done so well! Glad a couple of you clocked this as my entry which means y'all followed my chart, but if you haven't, here is the link for this week's chart:

All of that top 5 is amazing, would've been nice for one of the others to get a first time win, but can't complain at the winner, congrats to Cody!

Congrats Cody :3 aw at Minor Science ending up slipping out of the top 3 but still cannot complain at all with the whole top 4 having been in my top 5 - and I voted for 8 of the top 10 in total with Ginevra Nervi also being a commiseration! The taste was real. My winning prediction for A.A. Williams being a bit off oops, should have had more faith in my own taste apparently (although I did vote for A.A. too!)

Congrats Cody! Re-listening to 'Wonderland' now and I can really hear the winner vibes even though it somehow didn't stand out to me originally. I was really rooting for Magnolia Park and Minor Science, glad they did as well as 8th and 4th.

 

I'm absolutely amazed with 6th for 'Sympathy Boy', that's my second-best result that I can recall in 9 years of participating in UP! Thanks to everyone who voted for it, I'm very happy it was as catchy to everyone else as it was to me.

This was a really strong and enjoyable edition of UP with lots of faves I'll def be replaying, thanks Rollo again for the smooth and efficient hosting and congrats to Cody. Ooh, that's a very strong Top 5- can always rely on Kath to bring the quality ofc, ditto Dobbo. Was not expecting Rich to be behind Giant Swan but it does make sense - we seem to match quite strongly on that region of the music spectrum(see: ishi vu in BJSC 134)- so I think I should restate that I think gooddelta has all the Doctor Blind cheat codes. x

 

Thanks to those who voted for Alberta Balsam - discovered her/that track a few years ago when I was compiling a CD for my niece who wants to be a producer/DJ. Sorry to those who narrowly missed out on my votes, I think I wanted to vote for at least a further 8.

Very pleased that you enjoyed it - I think our music tastes overlap quite a bit!

 

Similar to Doctor Blind's comment, I've actually been aware of The Lounge Society for a little bit and kept them on my 'keep an eye on them' list - along with basically every other band in the current UK post-punk scene - but it wasn't until this song that they had anything that fully clicked with me. Sounds like a blend of Fontaines D.C. and Squid which is a perfect recipe for me being a big fan and not many others!

 

Agree- definitely would not have known about this track if you hadn't sent it so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Congrats too for Cody on the win and thanks to any that threw CLT DRP a point or two. For those interested their album is one of my favourites from the last five or so years and whilst they can be rather confrontational they really are lovely people and are excellent live. Also despite the electro-punk tag everything is drums and guitar (with a LOT of effects pedals)

 

As for my votes I did really like Lounge Society and it deserved my top score but it could easily have gone to Demob Happy but I felt I ought to mark the latter down as I'm way to famiiliar with them and I don't rate Sympathy Boy among their best work. It still bemuses everyone around here that Royal Blood got to be huge and Demob got passed over but the new album sounds great from what I've heard of it
