From SC -

Thursday midweeks

#1 - Michael Jackson (The Essential) - 21,151

#2 - Kneecap - 18,591

#3 - Mel C - 16,909

#3 is very good! She should hold off on sending the items she hasnt shipped yet and the digital download for next week, so she doesnt go #3-OUT and stays in the charts at least another week.

Still, she should be proud. I might even get the vinyl finally next week lol

I'm not gonna lie I am slightly gutted especially since she could have released a few weeks ago and been #1 at this rate, but that's luck of the draw.

I never thought she would even make #3 and potentially #2 if they get the other items out today so have to hold onto how amazing that is. It's just slightly heartbreaking to know she really had a chance at #1 if Michael Jackson didn't have the boost of the movie. 💔

This also makes album 10 suddenly such an exciting campaign!

ALSO - This album has really grown on me more and more this week, I think it might potentially have overtaken Melanie C as my 3rd fave album, definitely overtaken Beautiful Intentions. Not touching Northern Star and The Sea though. ❤️

Unfortunately she'll never have huge numbers on streaming, we know it, but if these 6 months the streaming wasn't left alone (no playlist, no remixes, no acoustic) something would be different. The "big" numbers of the acoustic version of Blame It On Me should had tought them something...

At the start of the week I'm sure most of us assumed she would be doing 8-10k and would have been happy with a top 5. It's definitely done way more than I thought but it's such a great album I'm sure it's got more traction from outside the dedicated fanbase too!

Yeah I agree, the streaming side of things really was a let down this time, specially with this type of music that seemed made for playlisting lol But the physical sales make up for it at this time, just not sure in the long run.

I don't think she is building a new audience necessarily. She has like 18 versions of the album out right now, compared to her last album's 8 versions, and she has campaigned HARD over the last few weeks so obviously the numbers are going to go up. The interesting thing is to see how she sustains this campaign in the long run.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a big sales dump tonight - so much hasn’t been shipped yet and they’ve announced a 2nd York show after the first one sold out - not convinced they would be doing that unless they thought there was a chance?!

My order of 3 cassettes and a Spice Boys CD... they've just dispatched the CD with one of the cassettes (yellow). Pink and orange cassettes still says "This item is currently awaiting arrival of the stock. We are working as hard as we can to have this available as soon as possible." for me. I guess they're shipping what they can and making a loss on postage by having to send the other two cassettes separately?

Quite frankly, she won't! There are plenty of much bigger artists than Mel who struggle to keep their album campaigns going past week one, Melanie sadly won't be the exception to the rule. Apparently a deluxe and a remix version of the album are coming, hopefully they give her a few extra charting weeks but other than that she will undoubtably sink like a stone.

Yeah as I pointed out in the FCP last weeks top 40 only 13 albums wernt greatest hits that had managed to stay on the charts for more than 10 weeks

If we excluded Justin beiber and Michael Jacksons studio albums (which are both back due to there own exceptional circumstances ) we fall 10 albums more than 10 weeks old. Sabrina had 2 Olivia Rodrigo had 2

So only 8 unique artists had albums on the chart longer than 10 weeks old

Long story short long album campaigns are rare

Snatched the digital! Come on Melanine! I want to believe she already sitting at #2 and #1 on the independent chart!

That's the same for me only the yellow dispatched so it's a shame they didn't get the stock in time.

Come on though Townsend you could of just marked them as shipped regardless

So frustrating about the cassettes, like what is the point advertising them if you don't have them!? Just going to be wasted towards a chart position now and we'll never find out the sales. 😒

Whatever happens with the Chart, she gave us a great album, and her Team did the impossible (kudos to Melanine for being ubiquitous during the last weeks).

I thought her streaming numbers were meh, and I was expecting others to have millions more than her. Kneecap, Jessie Ware, and other UK/IE artists really do struggle compared to US artists.. wow! Streaming sucks.

My thoguhts on this : US has the biggest consumers of music. In speaking of volume of sales , whether Gen Z people , Londoners or both of these contributes biggest music consumption. I really know that streaming sales will dictate the charts. We're still keep streaming until the end of charting week.
