October 26, 20223 yr Evermore sold 27K first week but didn't have any physicals. Her previous highest opening week was 1989 on 90K so i expect her to surpass 200K Thanks! It really is such a huge upturn then!
October 26, 20223 yr This seems to have become a thread about everyone purposefully missing each other’s points and though I can see why many would disagree with Shaky in this instance, the ridiculing of his point (and he does have one) is actually very uncomfortable to read. But it’s the kind of ridiculing I see regularly in the chart forum these days so it’s hardly a surprise. Yes, it’s great that Taylor can sell that much and of course it’s a great achievement. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that it isn’t a great thing that pretty much every artist has to release the multi formats to shift albums. It’s great if people love it but I do miss when albums could just sell themselves. When they lasted for more than just a few weeks. It’s great that people are happy to see high sales but that doesn’t mean that some of those sales aren’t artificial or that you shouldn’t point that out or that pointing that out is having a go at Taylor. But whatever your view, please remember there are real people behind the posters who can get frustrated when people miss their points and put words in their mouths. And posts like ‘this thread is a mess’ are pointless and just antagonise. What’s wrong with a bit of debate, after all. Mr Conflict Resolution has arrived :cheeseblock:
October 26, 20223 yr Thanks! It really is such a huge upturn then! Some might say it's an upturn beyond her Wildest Dreams :D
October 26, 20223 yr It’s great if people love it but I do miss when albums could just sell themselves. I really do too, but I think with how consumption and technology has moved on the album is basically a dead format and this is the only thing keeping it alive and from being obsolete.
October 26, 20223 yr As I said the other day I would be interested to see how Taylor and AM's physical sales would compare if the OCC only allowed one sale per customer. I think the gap is big enough now that it's safe to say Taylor is almost certainly ahead even if you did that, but it would just be nice to have some concrete numbers of how many people are buying multiple copies (I don't think the number buying multiple copies of the Taylor album will be that big, but I would certainly assume it's more than the number of people buying multiples of AM, and more sales per customer out of those who are buying multiples - not least because Taylor's marketing strategy with these variants pretty explicitly encourages multibuying ('complete the clock'!) in a way that most multiformatted albums don't really do as far as I'm aware. Not a criticism, it's a smart strategy, just an observation). I don't expect to get that information though, nor do I know if it would even be possible to calculate it. AM already having what would have been a record week of vinyl sales in any other week (in the modern era at least, I assume there must have been albums that did way more than 36k vinyl in a week in the pre digital era?) and yet coming to not even be close to #1 on the vinyl album chart. The frustration continues  At least they'll have the #1 cassette, clearly the most relevant format :kink:
October 27, 20223 yr but that data is impossible to know I'd say, record stores report daily sales, like HMV says today we sold 7 vinyls of AM, they cannot report Mary bought 3 and Joe bought just 1 and then Bré came and bought the 4 vinyls for Taylor could he wanted to have the clock! :D It's totally impossible :D what I find hilarious is to assume to all Taylor fans bought the 4 vinyls to make the clock while AM fans all bought the 1 copy and none did multibuying of variants. Think a lot of people underestimate hoe the mind of indie music fans work and big collectors indie fans are!

Bre didn’t say that in fact they explicitly said that wouldn’t be the case, you are literally putting false words in their mouth.
October 27, 20223 yr I really do too, but I think with how consumption and technology has moved on the album is basically a dead format and this is the only thing keeping it alive and from being obsolete. I completely agree with that but it does make me sad that it’s the case these days. There’s no turning back the clock but I really miss when albums were special and we’ll regarded.
October 27, 20223 yr I think they still are. Sure some buy all 12 variants of a new album for collecting but for the majority of people it gives you the choice to pick 1 out of all the options, the one you like the most thats what I do and what everybody I know does you see the 3 different vinyls for The Car and you pick the nicest one for you, you check the 5 vinyls for Midnight and pick the nicest (the green one!!!)
October 27, 20223 yr Looks like Taylor might just end up below or around 200k for the week in total. Streaming wise though she might well top Adele and Harry for streaming but Ed’s looks out of reach. I reckon she might still do 30-40k again next week given her streaming levels at the moment.
October 27, 20223 yr Taylor's pronunciation of "Anti" surprises me because I thought most Americans pronounce it like Ant-EYE.
October 27, 20223 yr I really do too, but I think with how consumption and technology has moved on the album is basically a dead format and this is the only thing keeping it alive and from being obsolete. This is the beginning and end of it. Multiple versions have to be released now as the album market to casual buyers is completely dead and the only way to make up for that is to make hardcore fans buy 5, 6 or 7 copies.
October 27, 20223 yr This popped up on TikTok about Taylor Swift’s album  https://www.tiktok.com/@mrthomasenglish/vid...398038003322158
October 27, 20223 yr Harry Styles Music For A Sushi Restaurant video goes live at 5 today, will be interesting to see it’s movement over the coming weeks.
October 27, 20223 yr He's promoting Music For An Elevator as a single? Zzzzzz. I had presumed he was as Capital started playing it a lot more frequently this week.
October 27, 20223 yr That’s an awful choice for the next single if that’s what he’s going with It’s more backing music for an advert than an actual single. He could have went with much better songs on the album
